@DropDead2k Thats correct. Everything will be blank untill you Map a Control to a parameter. As you map your controller the left side will populate with the corrisponding MIDI mapping configurations.
@mrcuss But do You know how I can Fade Things in and out? i Have a Trigger Fingrt and when i set the Fader to something it just turns on, it doesnt Fade in or out D: Please Help.
Anybody know how to map an Akai MPK mini.... it is giving me nightmares and I really want to use it but nothing works. I want to use it in tandem with my Launchpad but I just can't seem to get it to do shit with ableton.
@mynameisgabortokar Native Instruments Maschine has a basic template for it for Ableton and you can customize it and make more templates and you can change which template you're using on Maschine by switching to another template page. Not sure but Akia MPC's might be able to do that too. But neither of those are keyboard controllers.
I got a problem. I have nanopad but everytime I map a pad to one of the clips I have on Ableton and I trigger them I have a 3 sec delay. I mean, I press the pad and after 3 sec the sample is played....I dont know if this is something that has to be fixed form ableton ot my nanopad is broken out of the box...
Nothing is broken but you need to configure your system to reduce your latency time.
There is plenty on the web about it but first optimise your system by switching unnecessary processes off such as wireless, blue-tooth and virus software.
i am using the Axiom 25, and although Live 8 is indicating that there is communication between the controller and the controller by the yellow light in the top right hand corner, i cant map the pads or the rotary knobs.
@tborbe Using presets 18, 19 and 20 on your Axiom will give you control without having to map, however they are preset, and you might want more custom control for your instrument.
@tborbe Oops, hit post before i was finished. Make sure under "options>preferences>Midi" and down under 'midi ports' you select the button 'remote' for your controller, for remote control.
Hi.May I ask one question Mrcuss?I am trying to use Korg Kontrol 49 with Ableton Live,I ve tried the MIDI mapping but when I assign anything to keys for example like a piano or even wave sounds, theres a few seconds gap( between the time I pressed the keys and the time I hear the sound coming out.I ve done all the settings as it should be. Im using a Compaq Presario CQ60 laptop with AMD Sempron,2.10 GHZ,3GB RAM,Vista Service Pack 1,32 bit operating system,NO external sound card yet .Thank you
how do we go on about mapping "shortcuts" which are not visible mappable controls on the gui, for example next/previous track and have pan/volume control for Selected track... possible?
Is it possible to save your midi-mappings as a preset or something? cause it's irritating to have to midi map all those buttons each time i start ableton...anyone?
how come when I map my akai LPD8 pads to a drum rack, it only turns the sound all the way up or all the way down? how do I make it trigger the sound itself?
I have a nanokontrol and i can't get ableton to map any controls. a single green light in the top right corner lights everytime i use a knob or a fader, or anything. but i can get nothing happenning.
You have to enable "Remote" for your input device in preferences. It seems that you you have only "Track" enabled which is the bloody default. Did cost me 1 hour to figure out.
Can You make a Tut on how to do this with the Trigger Finger?
DropDead2k 3 months ago
@DropDead2k Its done in the same way mate:
Just make sure Ableton is seeing the trigger Finger and that it is recieveing MIDI.
mrcuss 3 months ago
@mrcuss Well when I hit the MIDI everything Turns Blue, and On The Left, everything is Blank.

DropDead2k 3 months ago
@DropDead2k In Ableton you have to tell the software what type of controller is what.
For example an endless encoder works differently than a linear fader.
After selecting the control you want the fader to operate remember to set the controller type.
This is found at the bottom of the screen and is mentioned at the end of the above video.
mrcuss 3 months ago
@mrcuss Thanks for the reply. I do not have the black boxes at the bottom of my screen where the yellow circle is. how do i get that?
DropDead2k 3 months ago
@DropDead2k at 2:00 mins in the video shows you how to set the mode of the controlls.
The mode selection box only appears when a control is selected in Ableton.

Let me get this: You are making a video on Ableton Live and you can't even manage to RECORD YOUR OWN VOICE!!! You joker.

Is it possible to make a midi template for example for a bcr 2000, which could be loaded anytime in different projects? thanks :)

To my knowledge there is no way to save or load just your MIDI mapping in Ableton.

Mapping is the same with any device that is capable of sending MIDI.
Make sure the device is installed correctly and seen by the software...

any suggestions?
tborbe 1 year ago
@tborbe Sorry, Ive not seen that before. if the controller is sending MIDI and Ableton is receiving it, then try going through Abletons preferences.
Check out 'chrisNova777' post below.

Audio latency can be reduced by using ASIO4ALL (free download). you will also benefit from an external sound card.
Try optimising you computer for audio if you haven't done so already. switch off all unnecessary processes including, wireless, virus software...etc
Goggle will return many good sites to show you how to do this.

yea you can save everything as the default template (Preferences -> File / Folder -> Save Current Set As Default -> Save)

@MooseProds maybe... but you can save a blank set with the presets you like.. or just make it your default set

Can you elaborate?
What controller and how are you using it?

Axiom 49. we are trying to use it for live sound.

How do you start/stop clips (I have a Trigger Finger) like with the APC?
Mun0z387 2 years ago
Select what you want to map to, in your case the start stop functions.
Enter MIDI Map mode / select the 'play clip' button in Ableton and then press a control on your controller.
do the same for the 'stop' button and leave MIDI map mode.
mrcuss 2 years ago
OK.
I guess it depends what you are trying to do with the clips and the way in which you control them.
Generally, 1 control = 1 MIDI message. Therefore you can only start or stop a clip as it requires a different MIDI value for each function.
Maybe the APC 40 (Ableton Controller) handles MIDI messages differently.
I use the Allen & Heath Xone:4D which has a SHIFT button allowing each control to send multiple messages.
mrcuss 2 years ago
No. Why would you want to?
What controller are you using?

I have a nanokontrol and i can't get ableton to map any controls. a single green light in the top right corner lights everytime i use a knob or a fader, or anything. but i can get nothing happenning.

It sounds like you need to select your controller in Abletons preferences under the MIDI tab.

You have to enable "Remote" for your input device in preferences. It seems that you you have only "Track" enabled which is the bloody default. Did cost me 1 hour to figure out.

is it possible to save a midi map? IE so you dont have to reassign each controller every time you start a new project.. thanks!
