Great song and nice performance. One question though, what does it mean when he says he's going to 'give her my brand'? I ask because I want to know if it's safe for my daughter to listen to.
@TheMistaSteve Sad to say, branding refers to heating a metal form in the fire and then burning the imprint on the animal's skin so that the symbol burned into the skin will identify the owner. I work in England for a month most years and there the sheep are painted with a colored circle, where the color identifies the owner - a much more humane approach to identifying livestock. Might be a good opportunity to discuss cruelty to animals with your daughter.
@lynchzilla I spent many years traveling on business to the Mitcheldean area in the Forrest of Dean. Your right about the sheep, running around everywhere with those colored circles. Always wondered how the damm farmers rouded them up. Nothing to stop them from just taking off. Curious if this is the area your talking about?
@frw123456 My company's R&D facility is in Newtown, Powys (Wales). When I have extended visits there, they rent a cottage for me that is at the 1700 foot level high up in the hills. The cottages are converted farm buildings in what was a sheep farm. The owner rents the fields out to neighboring farmers, so there are sheep on all sides.
@lynchzilla I found you on the Map, your further into Wales as opposed to the Mitchdean/Ross on Wye area which is more down on the river and the border. I still have some good friends in Lydney (near Chepstow) that I converse with, but I don't travel there anymore.
Every now and then I come to youtube page to listen to your version of Chestnut Mare. Very good stuff. And I agree with the comment below that it would be great if you got out and did your own stuff.
Great rendition of a great song, I actually saw the Byrds play this song live twice while they were playing the college circuit ib the late 60's. I love the funky little strumming pattern almost Chet Atkins like. Also clever playing it down by the bridge to give an adaption of that treble 12 string sound. I saw Roger play this in Jupiter Fla about a year ago and it's still every bit as good on acoustic as when he did it on the Rick.
Dont take this the wrong way but you need to do your own songs and get out and get and sing. we need just some old fashion folk singers.good playing and voice with a real good story behind it.I love folk singing better than any music on the market today.
Hey somehow I missed this one till now. Great job! The talking and playing takes real talent. You took on a real monster of a song....and came through in flying colors.
Absolutely Beautiful, Very hearthfelt and true, songs are so much better when sang by regulare folk, if you ask my humble opinion, it must be the passion...

You're amazing. I wish I could play as good as you. I mean, it's not a hard song, but you have that finesse, you've probably been playing for years.
