  • Great technique.

  • A big detail is getting your hips out and aimed in another direction. You use your "swinging" leg and swing it in a pendulum motion to create momentum to move your hips out. This is why we (Pedro Sauer Associations) have always called it a pendulum sweep. Check this vid youtube.com/watch?v=NWFrUlCvNL0

  • im gonna learn how to breakdance now

  • was Christopher Columbus first person to do this.

  • Hey TechniquePrevails, this has nothing to do with sweeps, but which submission is easiest to perform on a person much bigger than you are and will make them tap? Like, when I go for a triangle choke on someone much bigger than me, they will simple lift me up and break the hold or slam me back down. So, which move is easiest to make a bigger opponent tap? thx

  • do these sweeps work if your a bit smaller than your opponents because it doesnt seem like they do

  • @leralon They absolutely do. Jiu-Jitsu was developed specifically for that purpose. Technique is key!

  • @leralon yes but it is no doubt more difficult the bigger they get.

  • what if the guy postures up

  • @curtiskealoha do something different then

  • @curtiskealoha

the game is all what ifs, its always the most ridiculous question, what if.. what if he ate his spinach and he uses his popeye strength? to stop everything u try.. jiujitsu is all what if, then u what if, then he what ifs..

but to answer ur question there is a great video on the trainfightwinDOTcom website under high percentage grappling called the pendulum sweep.

  • @asid101010 Thank you!

  • @curtiskealoha

but basically if he postures up and ends up essentially sitting on ur underhooked arm, thats still fine just make sure to trap his wrist with ur other hand (in the case of this video, ur left hand so he cant post out) then just lift ur hips high to around his chest level (nipple height) and use ur legs to build momentum and turn. again check out the video on the TFW site.

  • my fave sweep

  • Is this a good sweep for beginners?

  • can you do this from half guard too?

  • @ozone890 Absolutely.

  • perfect!

  • Good job. Its all about the basics.

  • Very well done thank you for sharing.

  • We call it a pendullum sweep

  • Yes- exactly the same sweep!

  • I use this when my leg is over his head, ready for the armbar. I use it if I think he can escape. Is this bad for any reason? because you mentioned when the leg is not over the head??

  • Beautiful video guys. Great articulation in the explanations of details. You truly are fantastic teachers. Please keep it up ! There's lots of people who really appreciate it, me included!

  • Like this sweep. I use it alot from an arm drag if i dont get the back take or arm bar.

  • are you holding his head down?? did noguira do this to couture in there fight????

  • Think of controlling his posture rather than just holding the head... And yes. Check out the site.

  • I see all of these moves, and know they work and proven to work. But how come in like big UFC fights , or MMA matches you never see these moves being done. Moves that take guys from guard to mount immediately. Its always side control then mount. I never see like scissors sweep, this one or others. Ive seen alot of MMA and UFC matches and hardly see this stuff even if one fighter is known for his BJJ. Is it that much different in a real match then in the gym? Why dont people use these more?

  • Big Nog just did this to Randy Couture (arguably the best wrestler ever in the UFC) at the last UFC.

  • Big Nog? I like that. I've never seen that before.

  • As mentioned already, this move WAS done recently at Randy Vs Nog. To answer why in big MMA fights you don't see techniques like this; not all techniques work in MMA but may work in sport jiujitsu. Reasons include that you can't get punched in bjj. Additionally, not all kickboxing/boxing/wrestling techniques may be practical in MMA

  • Because the result of those moves are so devistating (you end up mounted if you get hit with it), these are some of the first things you learn to prevent (after submissions). That's why you don't see some of these as often. However, guys like Damian Maia, Nogeira, Frank Mir, and some others, do these kinds of things often.

  • Another reason you dont see these moves as often in the big mma shows is that the pros are all pretty competent grapplers and as a result are able to negate many of these moves.

  • GSP vs SPRATT did that beautiful sweep to end up on top..in TKO a few years back

  • Thanks

  • awesome vid XD
