The reason this rewrite of Leaves (from the book Gordon The Big Engine) was done was because there wasn't space for it in Series 1, hence why they skipped straight from Off The Rails to Down The Mine.

What the TV adaptation fails to recognise is that the character of Gordon as The Rev W Awdry created him would NEVER have shied away from having his paint cleaned and looking his best for the Express. Sorry but this is contrived tosh.
