The weird thing is after David Tennant formally announced he would be leaving the show after the 2009 Specials, Nesbitt expressed interest towards the role, which could have been spurred on by the fact that only a year or so before he was one of the favourites to replace Tennant when the regeneration cliffhanger left people wondering.
Steven Moffart should do a combined show with Nesbitt playing Jekyll/Hyde again then bring in Holmes and Watson as well to help the doctor save the day.
My other post failed for some reason. Anyway, Tennant is a great doctor, is scheduled for five more episodes, and might do another series if a film role as the Doctor is thrown in.
Although Tennant would be a hard actor to follow, Nesbitt would be good I think. He's suggested he's not interested in the role, but it's a long time until 2010 (or 2011 if Tennant does another series +film).
Pegg would be good, though it might be all about comedy. Nesbitt might be more versatile. Not sure about Robert Carlyle - great actor, but he's very down-to-Earth, and maybe hasn't got any real 'alien' quality to him. Good to see McGann reprise his role as the Doctor in an upcoming episode. :)
Oh - Richard E Grant did do a stint as the Doctor, though it was only for Comic Relief or something. I always thought he should have had the (proper) part.
@Setanta747 You've probs forgot about this video commented on, but Richard E Grant played The Doctor in Comic Relief as well as 'Scream of the Shalka' animation which helped spur on the revival, so really Richard E Grant was partly instrumental in the return of Doctor Who. Hurrah for Mr REG
I think because we have seen Catherine Tate in many comedy sketches that when we see her in doctor who were waiting for her funny moments and we do see alot of them in doctor who. What's amazing about Cathrine Tate is that she can play a serious character. I think she can be taking very seriously..
i never really watch doctor who but i wanted to see it tonight!
I have a wee poll goin too just asking people what their fav country in the world is other than their own just to spread some positivity! Ye can vote for who you like (not ur own tho!) just reply to this comment or leave a comment on my page. Cheers!
Apparently the viewing figures have gone way in recent episodes so some bright spark decided to spread some rumours that would create more interest in the show.
My sisters friends boyfriends cousin works in the canteen at the BBC and as they served up pink custard, thats what they heard Billy Piper say.
David t is staying the doctor till 2010 and another xmas special so dont worry theres a twist to do with the hand in the jar when he forst regenerated in to david
my theory is that he will regenerate, but look the same for some reason or another. They put it at the end of the episode just to keep people waiting and to cast doubt around. Otherwise, why just not do it as they did when Eccleson changed? we saw the new doctor straight away then.
from what i've seen, doctor who tend to twist storylines and trailors to make you think what they want you to think.. like in the trailor for 'doomsday' at the end of series two - you see rose say "and this is the story of how i died" when she doesn't actually die..
i go with the internal regeneration theory. judging on what i've seen on Dr Who in the past, when plotlines in the episodes of the series contribute towards a solution in the last couple of episodes. Ok, James is there with catherine, but that could just be them putting the cat amongst the pigeons, right? to keep people guessing. or at least, thats the hope. i like Nesbitt. he's a good actor but i find david has a niche as the doctor. others will imitate him in the future but they can't be him.
my theory is the dr regenerates as his 10th body but with a different personality...RTD says the dr is a new man...not a new body...does tennant get to be scottish again?
Well the theory is that the Regeneration energy goes to the Doctors hand and grows a new Tennat Doc (although that never happened when The Master regenerated and the hand was right there) who is human who goes of to live with Rose at the end....but like.....wouldent that STILL make a new Doc, just with a Tennant clone? Hm?
Or maybe its both. Maybe the 'Internal Regeneration thing is true
james nesbitt is a reali good actor and i reali loved the series jekyll he was in but he wouldn't be that good as the dr but then again i said that about david tennant when i heard he was the new doctor.
or maybe because the medusa cascade is one second out of synch his regeneration is out of synch and that must obstruct it enough to do the "internal regen" kasutei suggested
I've had a theory since last Saturdays episode! "Internal Regeneration" as in heal the heart that got shot & leave the face alone! XD The way they say things, it just about supports my theory. Will this centuries Doc' Who be brave enough to break the regeneration rules?
if you go onto david tennants website you can see the christmas special pics and you can see that david tennant is staying. besides, the dalek only hit the front of his chest.
I always thought Richard E. Grant would have made a good doctor, they must have thought at some point as they used him for the first flash animation series on their website, and also for the 80's Nelvana cartoon series that was canned.

all the wit ,charisma and warmth/ darkness but minus the good looks of the 10th :-)

I don't think he'd be a good Doctor but he'd make a bloody great villain for a future episode.

@Tetrisrock he could be the new Master. hed just have to channel his work from Jekyll (which Steven Moffat wrote also)
