  • the dance at 1:19 lol

  • Is it just me or are some of those Chinese kids played by Mexican kids? Watch closely. :-)

  • the memories flood my brain. being a teenager in the 80's was so much fun it's hard to imagine life without it.

  • Oh for the days when a music video both contained music AND had scenes that lasted more than 3 seconds. This is one i haven't heard in 25 years. Thanks for posting it!

  • Cool song and video. It makes sense that a band called RED Rockers would write a song called China. (Red China.... anyone ? Oh skip it . )

  • The Red Rockers were the best new wave band from New Orleans, period.. great band... I put them with Zebra in regards that they were ahead of their time... WAY AHEAD.. As a metal head, I can spot talent... though not my listening type as a whole, I do like them.. One of a few bands that breaks the barrier..

  • I LOVE CHINA! KICK JAPAN'S ASS!

  • reminds me of Wire Train. Any connections?

  • @bayernfan1960 I remember Wire Train. Maybe you are referring to their Chamber of Hellos song, are you?

  • @Supersweetguy yeah a lot of their songs sound like this. The ringing guitars and pounding drums. Ahh memories.

  • @bayernfan1960 How about Icicle Works' Birds Fly (Whisper to a Scream) song?

  • I'd like to see anybody in the biz today come up with shit this good...

  • 16"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son,[f] that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. 18Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God's one and only Son"

  • @1ricky77333 AMEN! =)

  • Un clásico de los 80's

    An 80's classic

  • They were an exciting live band...videos and cds could never do them justice.

  • Drummer Jim Reily was in Stiff Little Fingers from Belfast before joining this American band

  • Red Rockers are band from New Orleans with a "one hit wonder" that only made it to #53 on the Billboard Top 100. This song is kind of drab.

  • @crisisangel001 Who gives a shit how it scored on Billboard,.. or even if it did at all?!! THAT doesn't influence MY opinion a bit!! Go listen to Micheal Jakson or Huey Lewis music if you want THAT kind of thing!

  • @crisisangel001 yeah like who gives a shit if this song peaked at #53? Is that going to stop me from listening to this song? HELL NO!!! You're just a MAINSTREAM PUPPET that chases after anything that's popular!!!! YOU'RE PRETTY STUPID!!!

  • @crisisangel001 " China" was great'. get your head out of your ass or get a friend to help pull it out. Rock is not for you, try folk songs NERD.!

  • i'd like to dedicate this song for my big brother's birthday!

  • from my home state of CT

  • Sorry guys you were better as the Rat Finks and punk. It's weird seeing this after all these years since I knew these guys LOL. Song still stands up but not so much the Video, besides, where on Earth do you find all those Asian People in New Orleans???

  • The updated version of this song goes like "...China, China, calling out to your factories..."

  • nice Youtube pull if I do say so mehself..((pats self on back))

  • Love this jangly '80s power pop from the excellent 415 label!

  • i've been trying to find out wat this song was foreverr!! and now i did :)

  • i bought this vinyl album from a record store 15 years ago for 75 cent, today that same record store has another copy for $8.00. you got to love how the world goes around. no wonder i-pod are popular, its cheaper to buy the down load

  • One of the best from the 80's

  • Thanks for this post..... fond memories of the 80's!!!!!!!

  • Why did such a rebellious band make a 100% pop video like this?

  • This was their only radio hit but that doesn't mean anything-I thought they were fabu!!

  • damn this song made me miss hong kong! :(

  • @ermthewerm no thanks. I listen to new music all the time. 95% of new music is balls and if you like indy rock that shit is either some God awful frumpy chick on the ukele or rips off the Cure or some Shoegazer band anyway. What am i supposed to listen to Lady Gaga, Justin Bieber, Animal Collective? Eff that!

  • @kemicon Damn....you hit the nail on head.

  • @kemicon I WAS JUST KIDDING BUT UR RESPONCE WAS SPOT ON !!! GOOD FOR U !!!

  • @ermthewerm haha, good for you. Makes me feel special needs.

  • from here, go to "I'll Do You" by Wire Train

  • This song gets me in the mood for some General Tzo's!

  • you're a tard.

  • @Boudosaved No but he was right. You really are a stupid fucking tard. Go die.

  • That wasn't very nice. You should be ashamed of yourself. Honestly, who tells someone to go die? Only barbaraians who have no logical comeback rely on personal attacks. You've got nothing else you can use.

  • @Boudosaved I quote ferris bueller" one shoudnt believe in an ism, they should believe in themself. I am the Walrus." he he. You've been brainwahed by the peta heads and other assorted gays.

  • @stuckinwhopast...the fact that you're quoting ferris bueller to give your belief validity says it all...the least you could have done was quote from John Hughes' real masterpiece..."Planes, Trains and Automobiles"..."those aren't two pillows!!!!"

  • This song peaked at #53 on June 4th, 1983. This was also the same day that David Bowie peaked at #10 with CHINA GIRL. Pretty ironic, huh?

  • Best part - the girls. Liked these guys when this came out, but this is pretty gay now. No offense fans

  • Gay? WTF?!? Compared to the earring-wearing, made-up, tattood emo "dudes" today? THIS is gay? Wrong.

  • @ratricide How weird. It seems you've actually gotten LESS mature with age. I mean, what adult who's got to be well over 30 thinks like this?

  • i still got the album

  • Growing up in the eighties rules!!!

  • Seemed like every video in the early eighties featured a chinese girl running with a red flag........

  • Is that a Fender Lead the guitarist is playing? You don't see very many players using those!

  • I saw them back in 83 / 84? They opened for Men at Work. I dare say they broke up very close to after that show, but I'm not positive. Great song. Thanks for posting

  • That must have been an amazing concert. Men at Work are great.

  • This was the toughest 80s tune to track down because I forgot the Red Rockers did it. I finally googled 'China calling back to your history' and hit the Red Rockers. Moral of the story: When all else fails, Type in a lyric. Thanks to whomever posted this. Any idea when it released and how far up the charts it reached?

  • The Good as Gold album came out in 1983. Can't say how well it did, but there was tons more buzz for this than the previous album, Condition Red.

  • @wfalcon76

Peaked at #53 on June 4th, 1983, which ironically was the same day that David Bowie peaked at #10 with CHINA GIRL.

  • my buds from Bocage. Go Saints.

  • awesome im back to my teen years

  • I love this song!

  • the drummer used to be in Stiff Little Fingers...great punk from Eire!

  • Yes I also remember MTV when it first came out sometime around 1981 or 1982 and they didn't have any commercials they just played music videos. Not like today's garbage. VH-1 also used to be good but went downhill too.

  • Yep, and the first MTV video? The Buggles-Video killed the radio star. MTV allowed us to see what the band looked like and at my age of 13 then, it was like seeing these great celebrity people like "wow, that's them. What happened to our era?

  • @1skunkus Don't know what happened because today's MTV I do not watch because of all the commericials and I don't like the programming.

VH-1 was also even better at the same time but now I think they have changed and gone downhill.

  • This is just an outstanding tune with alot of heart

  • @CTasara Yes it is.

  • GODZIRRA !

  • come to fuck my nuclear dick !

  • This is a savage tune! Cheers for postin'! Kudos!

  • The 80's were great. Never to be forgotten for the great music and music videos of all time.

  • This great song was definitely underrated. It should have at least cracked the top twenty on the pop chart.

  • Classic 80's - just takes you back to a great era. Thanks for posting!

  • A fucking great song! I'm so glad this is posted!

  • The first album and 7" is shit hot awesome Punk Rock! Everything else kinda really sucks. They should have changed their name for this crap....

  • Nice classic MTV video. Thanks for posting!

  • They parted and went their separate ways. The drummer went back to Ireland I believe, the bassist is Darren Hill, an old friend. We played in a few garage bands together. He went to 'Nawlins and I to Dallas. We both seem to come home to Mexico, Mo. to visit at the same time.

  • I saw them open for the Stray Cats at Jones Beach Ampitheater on Long Island on a summer night 1983.....this song always defines that early 80s sound....a moment in time....

  • Summer night....Jones Beach....1983....Red Rockers and Stray Cats...dude, I can close my eyes and almost be there, but I was too young....so I will l live it vicariously through you....awesome story.

  • 什么狗屁玩意儿?你来过中国吗?

  • Loved this song since I bought the 45 when it first came out!!!! Whatever happend to these guys?????

  • I saw them open for the Go-Go's in 1984 and they were awesome! A perfect billing.

  • That IS a perfect billing, God I wish I had been old enough to see that show.

  • An MTV 80s Classic.

  • remember ORCHESTRAL MANEOUVERS IN THE DARK? also a great band in the 80's!

  • I remember the first time I heard this song I was on vacation with my parents in Germany. I was like 12 or something. Everyone wanted to go to dinner and I was like chill, I have to hear this song first. I never heard it again until I looked it up on youTube this year, I had thought it was Red Rider who are also not so bad.

  • This song is Fantastic . A True Eighties Gem. It will be Played and enjoyed Forever.

  • 80's were so cool great fun!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Red Rockers rock with this song . Nice song the China song.

  • i'm 20 year olds and when I introduced my college room mate to this song, he instantly was hooked on to this song lol it's funny how young people never know the good music that they're missing out on lol

  • Such a pure 80's gem! Aw!

  • Oh Yeah, Red Rockers, Good as Gold, LIVES UP TO IT"S NAME, Excellent album. This song is just a sample.

80's at it's best. The dj

  • Plus the chick is RED hot haaaaa!! : ) take care friends!!!

  • Thank you awsome!!Great times and wonderful memories!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Bad Ass. Love this tune.

  • Cowboy Mouth USA

  • Director Oley Sassone's first music video....the first of a great body of work.

  • an awesome song from 1983--new wave rocker that was as good as anything of its kind--miss this stuff! This modern era hasn't a new wave as best I can tell!

  • awesome song from the 80's.This one and Haircut 100 with Love Plus One.

  • Cheesy 80's dancing at it's best! Great song tho.

  • Red Rockers are really underrated and forgotten dude. They have some great music, and to think they're an unsigned band.. More people should listen to this! :D

  • Wow! I had no idea that this band was from Louisiana-Just like I thought that Green Day was from the UK. In the song 'Longview' Billie Joe sounds British. Oh well, live + learn.

  • No one person 'invented' "Rock & Roll"- The term itself was an expression among black culture meaning something you do together in bed. Tell me 'Love Me Tender' by Elvis is an imitation of someone else, pleeze! Oh, and I suppose that Carl Perkins, Roy Orbison, Billy Haley and a whole crapload of pioneers in this music genre YOU never even heard of, were imitating someone. Dude, the field was open in 1956... If ya had a good 'gimmick' & manager you were on your way. Grow Up!

  • oh sry I didnt know that! Yes Im a freaking kid who has to grow up bcause I didnt know "Carl Perkins, Roy Orbison, Billy Haley and a whole crapload of pioneers in this music genre" I REALLY have to grow up, youre so right! Bcause when I would have grown up I knew all of them yes!

But Im pretty sure there are many imitators like elvis. I didnt say they did or did not invent rock & roll man -_-

so to this song: how would id be for u as (for example) a japanese guy, and Im a american guy.

  • boy you really are some twisted dumb ass aren't you? I suggest you stand in front of the mirror and jaw with yourself since locating anyone as stupid as you are, in Switzerland, Europe or otherwise would no doubt be a challenge... since even basic spelling is a problem for you..

  • why? can u speak german?

If not then youre just a kid, telling me I cant speak english when I had 2 yrs english and my teacher was a fucking idiot, my (even your) english is better than his, lol

look "I suggest you stand in front of the mirror and do bllah..." man youre always telling me the same shit, I could also tell you " your penis is as big as a fly " hah. funny, isnt it. and you didnt answer to my question fucktard. and dont vote my comments just bcause youre a poor child and cant argue

  • ok now answer to my last question: where are the arguments in your comments?

Youre such a freaking kid man u cant qrgue and youre telling me I cant. And whats if Im from Switzerland u fucking racist?

get a life nerd, u just insult me there are no arguments in your comments.. comeone just little kids are doing that.. give it up bitch and dont fucking forget: ANSWER TO MY FUCKING QUESTION BITCH

  • and why the hell am I dumb? look at you and your age, there are 5 Opportunities:

    1. You are in rl too young for youtube bcause youre a kid

    2. You are just too stupid to enter your real age

    3. Youre scared of ppl on youtube when you insult them, u want to be anonym bcause they would beat the shit out of you

    4. Youre just a sick nerd fapping with help of the youtube vids

    5. You are really 50 yrs old and you want to own 16 yr olds with just insulting them like a 10 yr old kid.

  • so which one will u chose?

  • The Red Rockers are hardly famous. They do have a cult like following though. This vid did get a lot of M-TV airplay when it came out, but the group is no more. This is not an insulting video at all, in fact the song is an honor to the Chinese. Some of who have been living in America for hundreds of years. Maybe YOU could elaborate on China for us. Entertain us with a bit of diatribe on the various dynasty's, some of it's leaders, what exactly is Taiwan. Who was Fu Man Chu?

    IGood Luck!

  • yeah ok entertaining is a nice argument, I apologize this time ( not to your meverlo if u think Im apologizing to you stupid idiot ) xD

I think meverlo doesnt get it, this is the way to talk and to own -_-'' this freaking kid makes me crazy with his childish comments

  • Hey,

Interested to connect with you. do you know what happened with Red Rockers?

  • Here is the Wiki on the Red Rockers:

The Red Rockers were a New Wave band from New Orleans, Louisiana. They formed in 1979 and disbanded in 1985. They are best known for their 1983 hit single "China".[1][2] They toured the United States opening for The Cars, Men at Work, U2, Joan Jett, The Go-Go's.

Lead singer John Thomas Griffith now plays guitar and sings in the band Cowboy Mouth, which he co-founded in 1990. They had their moments in the 80s and individually seem to be doing well.

  • Great band from New Orleans, Louisiana.

  • NICE!!!

  • fuck you shit bag you can't even piss on the ground hard yet,, so what does your opinion mean fuck you

  • wow grow up kid

its the same like when I say "youre gay"

    cant argue eh,,

its typical for americans to do these things.(well it was, this vid is actually rly old I guess)

Like elvis wasnt the one who invented the kind of music he played, it was someone else and he used it for himself and became famous.

  • You've got a point -- my apologies

  • Saying "it's typical for Americans to do these things," is as stupid as saying all 16 year-old swiss boys are fools and idiots with less than enough life experience to make a monolithically blanketed comment such as ..."its' typical..."

  • So you want to tell me it isnt?

    Its a fact idiot.

and Im not a rl "swiss boy", I just live there.

  • but you are a rl "boy" since you seem to be just another example of a boy whose mommy and daddy never listened to him so he comes here to spout is vapid, petty horseshit... when i say you're a true-blue idiot can't argue eh

  • lol who cant argue?

    jokes about mommy and daddy?

    sry kid try again faggot

just bcause u cant say anything u have to make a wannabe-diss comment.

have u got a problem when Im a boy?

lol youre comments are like " every meverlo is an idiot, his mom is crap, his daddy too " man grow up if u think this the way to argue..

I mean u dont know anything about me, why are u telling me this shit when I know it isnt true :|

give me a fact why your comment is "arguing"

  • La tocaban en SUPER FM 93.1 y en RADIO 99 FM, era el primer semestre de 1983..... years like that will never come back again !!!!!!!! La versión extensa es de PTM !!!!!!!!

  • Man, I forgot what a good song this was. I haven't seen this video in decades. The way the lead singer dances is kinda funny. Thank you deckard0 for posting this! Great trip down memory lane!

  • Music aside, this is a pretty terrible video

  • LOL, I agree, love the son. The chineese babes are pretty hot though

  • great pop song.

  • Makes me think of Oahu and its cotton candy pink skies, trade winds breezing through your hair and beautiful Asian and native Hawaiin people everywhere you turn.

  • dude can cut a rug.

  • Friend, you call that dancing?

  • diggin it.

i was convinced another 80's English band. they're out of New Orleans.

  • dammm...nice music......

  • the red rockers are the most underated bands of there time..good as gold and schizo circus are brilliant and there punk condition red is the crown jewel, but they were special,i got too see them open for U@ in 84 twice and they were incredible

  • Great song!

  • what the hell is this... : (

  • jim reilly from stiff little fingers on drums

  • A good, early example of jangle pop - music from the 1980s that recalled the chiming guitars and layered harmonies of bands from the 1960s like the Zombies and the Byrds. In my opinion, the music of the 1960s and 1980s produced far more influential artists and genres than those of the 1970s or 1990s - or of the current decade.

  • This is the guitar player from cowboy mouth

  • One of those countless brilliant 80's tracks which completely failed to make any impact here in the UK. And I'm at a total loss to understand why. This is a fabulous piece of New Wave. It really is.

If only they made music like this nowadays...

  • The gutair play is awsome, reminds me of alot of 60's stuff I grew up with enjoy!!!!

  • I don't care what anyone else says, I love this song! Yes, the 80s were kinda gay, and a lot of white people learned some hard lessons as far as fashion and dancing is concerned. But, out of all the dated crap from that period, this song still moves me!... dated production and all. There's a youthful longing in that chorus melody that will forever resound in my soul. And that quintessential 8th-note guitar line coming out of the chorus... yeah! Love it. Makes me feel like a kid again. Thanks.

  • trying very hard to be 80's "rockers" then , crash and burn.

  • plus the chick is hot in the video hahah!!!

  • check out dead heroes by the red rockers

    new way of doing things

    new wave

    010001001000

  • Wow, Hahah They really copied the clash.

  • This was actually one of the best Post Punk New wave great songs...Great times in the early 80's. These guys opened for U2 at Red Rock Colorado in one of their first major Gigs. Also Check Out Wire Train. the top 40 flashback stuff is crap... this was the new wave .

  • One of my favorite early MTV (real MTV) new wave songs

Nope, not gay, but very very New Wave

  • wonderful song !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!: )!!!!

  • I tunes doesn't even have this tune to download.. great 80's tune.

  • i just downloaded it on itunes a few days ago.

  • this song IS on Itunes. i just bought it.

  • Thank you very much to upload this great video of this awesome song. I am very glad remembering my school days going to study, to ride with my bike, going to the beach. VIVA THE EIGHTEES!!!!

  • Wow, this makes me miss the 80s

  • one of the best tunes of the 80s.

the video is hilarious, however. especially the part when the chinese kids are trying to mimic his bad dancing...

  • wave which is new
