Enough exchanges like this one and the resultant debris could bring about the end of telecommunications satellites, GPS, weather satellites and a manned presence in orbit. Imagine having to return to communications cables on the seabed exclusively. It would throw the global economy into chaos. This is a really bad idea.

America developed the Star Wars technology and faked the USSR into a very costly arms race. Fortunately, Regan was smart enough to NOT deploy the technology... just develope it. I fear temptation and arrogance will override the wisdom to restrain proliferation of these systems.
