They don't like that movie (not trying to sound biased, but nope, no ones said it) the audience loves the creativity, it's an uplifting story, it's funny (omg! Impossible 4 there!!!) and it's a story a lot of families UNDERSTAND, because they've probably had poverty issues, and who hasn't dreamed of a chocolate factory? People who haven't been in one an only imagine. So there's #3 there too-it's understandable. #5, why is it so bad that Tim burton uses Johnny depp for a majority of his movies?
I lasted 30 seconds before I stopped because you annoyed me with your "know-it-all" negativity and sharing your caprice opinions in such a manipulating-intending attitude. 1st impossible thing? Nightmare before Christmas. You know, Alice in Wonderland was one of the few books I have read in my life and I really cherish the story. When I saw the previews for the Tim Burton movie, I thought "Dam. It's too bad someone else couldn't have re-made that one." The animated characters look grotesque and the movie seemed chaotic, like Nightmare Before Christmas was. I will read the book again instead of seeing this. Even if I was stoned or drunk, I would figure out something better to do with my time than watch this.

@LoboDeBayamon Yeah maybe this would be good for an Emo type person, I was talking more about like young like 5 year old kids or somthing, you know, like how goonies was to me when i was a kid, i can never go back and reexperance that, how can you determine if this is maybe for some other age group or somthing, just my thoughts. Tim Burton makes the same movie over and over again. Johnny Depp, Helena Bohnam Carter, gothic design, Danny Elfmen, Hot Topic merchandise. That's about it.
@billybobk Well it must suck living a sad pathatic life that you live. Because Tim makes amazing movies you have no room to talk since you will never be as famous as Tim Burton. His art might suck to you but it's actually good art he draws that way because it's the best thing he's good at drawing.
I would like to see YOU make a better movie then his. Your a fucking idiot you hater, If you don't like it then fuck off and don't make a fucking video about it dumbfuck.
It really wasn't Alice in Wonderland at all. The characters only superficially resembled the characters from the book, or even the animated movie. I doubt that Burton et. al. actually cracked open the book for story research. This more resembled characters from the OZ books than Alice. Anyone who claims that these are characters genuinely based on the Alice stories have not read the Alice stories.
And out of all his movies only Planet of the Apes and Alice got bad reviews. All his other movies were well received (even Charlie and the Chocolate Factory) and some movies (Scissorhands, Nightmare bfr christmas) even became classics. Yet you think you have a point when you start blabbing about how he should stop making movies. You don't have to like his movies, but this little clip was just bursting with so much arrogance I couldn't ignore it.
Edward Scissorhands, Sweeney Todd, Corpse Bride, Ed Wood, etc are ALL good movies. I didn't like Alice that much, but don't even start to say Burton is a bad director, bcs he is not. The script was very lacking, that's its big flaw. Nobody needs to stop him, I love his work.
@amtriplekkk I don't agree with that, I simply found Ed Wood a good film. It was mostly based on the ideas of people other than Tim Burton, its greatness really lies in the acting and the story. All of which are irrelevant to Tim Burton.
Okay remake?? Are you shitting me? It got nominated for fuckloads of golden globes when the original should have gotten an Oscar for best actor. It is one of the worst films I've ever seen and I'd be happy to take the time to analyze its cinematic elements
Really none of this direction is memorable, the only memorable and decent works had more to do with factors Tim Burton doesn't have anything to do with such as screenplay and acting.
Tim Burton is brilliant and is behind many very good movies. Alice in Wonderland is sadly not one of them. Burton must have set his eyes on Computer animation and 3D instead of the story. After seeing Alice in Wonderland there was not one single thing i was looking forward to seeing again....
It is sad that such a crowd pleaser has been made by such talented people...
@amix773 lol Dark?? Where does everyone get the idea that he's "dark?" He's about as dark as a Disney movie...
Tim burton makes fairy tales. Just because the art direction is dull, colorless, and based on German Expressionism (odd shapes, angles, to create a disturbing effect, etc..) doesn't mean it's dark.
Stanley Kurbick was dark, if you really want to see dark.
@amtriplekkk No, I'm pretty sure there's no rules for what you "can't" do regarding taste in directors and how their careers have fallen. The guy'll get my respect if he ever does something like Pee-Wee's Big Adventure or Beetlejuice again instead of playing it safe like he has been since Sleepy Hollow.
@xtortugaviejox To be honest, Sleepy Hollow was his only decent shot at direction. Every other film he's done has only been great due to factors irrelevant to direction. Beetlejuice was so memorable due to its unique screenplay and iconic portrayal of the main character played by Keaton. Batman-again acting, Edward Scissohands-acting and screenplay.
Sleepy Hollow is the only where film I actually remember specific camera shots from Burton.
College Humor did a surprisingly good parody video of Burton, and it sums up everything you and I have to say about the darsh. 'glad to see someone else out there who realizes he needs to stop.
@amtriplekkk Why do people pull the "what have you done?" line when it involves someone not liking something they do? You know what this guy here hasn't done? Made a lot of shitty movies in the last few years. How 'bout that?
Tim Burton is a douche. He's made a few good movies, and started to show real promise as an artist and a truly original film maker, but as of late, he's proven himself to be an even more watered down version of Spielberg. His movies and characters have no heart or soul... and the stories almost always fail to make me give a shit. I didn't even finish "Alice", I honestly had better things to do!
@rigormortiiis Dude...don't compare him to Spielberg, Spielberg actually knows how to direct. Tim burton is not a director or else name me one memorable scene from his films based on camera work alone...
With Spielberg you can do that with most of his films actually until about the early 00s. I'd say Spielberg punched out around then. He started letting assistants do most of his work like Joe Johnston for Jurassic Park 3.
@Sshelly34213 I have to agree, and plus going through Tim Burton's life history, it seems he always accidently fell into this whole movie making thing, I mean like he never really set off to be a filmmaker, it just happened to him.
jeez i hate you kind of people, in your perfect world no one is allowed to hate anything thye cant do, dont diss unless you can do the same work is the kind of answar that people like you give when they relise they cant say anything with any weight behind it
i cant market books to hormonal young girls as well as stephany mayor does...but i still hate twitlight....idiot
@MattRooney06 Well I HATE assholes who whine and complain when something doesn't hold up to their standards...I don't like the twilight movies but do you see me saying they should stop makin them...NO!!!! MORON
@jennaj1462 Im not saying tim burton should stop making movies, i loved his earlyer work before he relised he could sell the same old formular to his oh so devoted fans and make quick cash out of it
in your sheer devotion to tim burton you havent really read what i have said at all, open your eyes and watch his movies for what they are rather than what you want them to be
@MattRooney06 I'll say it, I don't think he ever was a good director. Some of his movies were passable, but the good comes from every other factor irrelevant to Burton himself. Beetlejuice-screenplay and Keaton's character had nothing to do with Burton. Batman-art direction and acting irrelevant to Burton. Same thing with Big Fish and Ed Wood, same thing with Edward Scissorhands. Can you name me one instance of memorable camera work from the man? He's not a good director, he's just passable.
My opinion is that Burton is great; it's like he captures my feelings in each of his movies. Honestly, you should keep your opinion to yourself if it's going to hurt someone; and you hurt me. His movies reflect the world as how I see it and by telling him to stop making movies is like telling me to stop live! If you can live with someone's death by him doing what you say then so be it, I hope you can live through it.
@roulchristine4ever Wow interesting because I've always found Tim Burton emotionally void. His films are passable, but the emotion does not come from his camera work, it comes from the actors themselves. Sometimes the screenplays are well written as in Beetlejuice or Big Fish...but he doesn't write his screenplays.
:D My God, there are other people who don't like this movie! I don't know why everyone thought this movie was so "imaginative" and "creepy, daring". I'm sorry, it was boring and I don't get why so many people make Alice friends with everyone. In the books she was either creeped out by them or thought they were mean. The only reason I payed for this movie was because I thought it might be like American Mcgee's Alice.I'd rather play that game or read Frank Beddor's "The Looking Glass Wars"
@Hinsei13 It was terrible!! I have read superior fan fiction to his crappy Alice in Wonderland version!! The books are so great, why doesn't someone make a great movie to go along with them?
tim burton isnt being carried by others. The Melancholy Death of Oyster Boy was written by tim burton and that book was awesome. and jhonny depp is good at being the crazy weird strange charecters, jhonny depp as nearly any other charecter would be like making morgan freeman play a retarded or making jhon wayne a street mugger.
@MrAnonymouslyA Ugh. Johnny Depp is great at being himself, which is what we always get with his work. I really don't buy the idea that his characters are so "strange" they're just variations on characters he's always done. Wonka=Ed Wood, Mad Hatter=Ed Wood+Wonka, Finding Neverland=basically anytime he's put on a British accent. I see no difference between this role and his character in From Hell.
@MrAnonymouslyA What Johnny Depp appears to be good at, in my opinion, is honing in on a character. He can play something to pin point precision whether it be a character or emotion, but he sacrifices range for it.
Ugh, I agree.. I was horribly bored throughout the entire movie. He destroyed it so hopelessly. It was much like a straight line driving into a sickingly happy ending. I do enjoy happy ending but this movie was a crime!
Oh by the way, after a few minutes of watching this...I've noticed something. You slightly resemble Brendon Fraiser. Maybe it's the haircut. Or maybe I'm just strange that way...
@lulzcoaster u know a was disapointed at tim too but the end and all that crude humor was disneys fault cuz actiolly it was a kid movie (like all disney movies) and they didnt let tim do wat he wanted so they got him very limited
your a fucking loser dude. so you dont like tim burton movies...... WHO THE FUCK CARES! So stop watching tim burton movies then! thats like having the option of watching Dustin Diamond's (screech) sex tape. just because I have the option, doesnt mean I wanna do it. SO I PROBABLY SHOULDN'T! Oh and another thing, tim burton makes all his movies the same because he makes them the way HE feels, not the way YOU feel.
@clintscrazylife Excuse me? Are people not allowed to watch bad films and critique them? I wasn't aware of the fact that only people with happy, positive opinions were allowed to express themselves.
Why is this guy a loser for simply pointing out what is 100% true and recognized by the average movie audience. People are tired of Tim Burton's shtick and some never went for it to begin with. Why are they not allowed to express themselves and speak? Is this not helpful for Burton himself?
I agree with almost everything you said. I absolutely hated this movie and would rather sit in a dark room staring at a wall for 2 hours. I like the Hook comparison you made; I was thinking the same thing after watching the movie. I hate how Tim Burton puts these little twists in the storyline; as if somehow it makes the story more interesting or better (I love the original books) Tim Burton pretty much raped my imagination. I feel violated after watching this movie.
I don't understand people who say Burton makes the same movie over again, or he uses the same style etc...what do you expect? Artists /bands/writers/etc. have usually their own unique style, like Stephen King's books are horror, Quentin Tarantino's movies all have the witty dialogue and over the top violence, and Picasso has strange, colorful paintings that have no diminsion. It's their STYLE, so you can't expect them to just CHANGE.
@13Elphaba13 But I would say his best movies came in his earlier years when his style was still developing: Pee-Wee's Big Adventure, Batman, Ed Wood, and the Nightmare Before Christmas. And as I said in my video: Burton didn't make these movies alone. Pee-Wee was great because of Paul Reubens, Batman was Batman, Nightmare had a visionary art staff, Ed Wood, well, that was probably all Burton. Movies are COLLABORATIVE. If the set of a movie was an office, Tim Burton would be your idiot boss.
@NacissaMalfoy He didn't direct it but he did write the story. Unfortunately he did co-direct the Corpse Bride. Judging from how those two movies turned out it is easy to figure out which one he directed and which one he didn't.
@NacissaMalfoy Nightmare Before Christmas is Tim Burton's movie. He didn't direct it but he came up with all the designs, concept, plot and everything. So do us a favor and shut up you Burton hater.
@Sshelly34213 hi ya sorry this is 13elphaba13's new account, something happened to the old one. Anyway yes I am familar with Gorey's work, yet aren't artists /writers/musicians/etc inspired and draw ideas from their past favorite works? like Burton also like Dr. Suess and etc.
@AliceElphabaWonka Yes, to an extent, I just feel like his work is so close to Gorey's. I think it also bears a similarity to Ray Cruz's work as well. Either way, it's not exactly unique.
That is true, looking at his history, it seems like he aspired to be an artist, animator, or illustrator more than a film maker.
Woot. Since I launched the website I've helped a lot of people understand that he's made the same movie over and over again. He hasn't been inspired since Big Fish.
Big Fish was really great. But if I could tear that movie down a bit I would say it was Tim Burton's version of Forest Gump. Hanks had magic legs. McGregor had magic traction.
Burton peaked with "Ed Wood". It was cool because he showed respect for the true "freaks" who inspired him as a child. With "Mars Attacks" and everything else afterward he got redundant and lazy.
It was amazing how Burton took the worst film maker of all time and made him into a hero. I've seen Ed Wood dozens of times, its a great movie, but Glenn or Glenda was horrible and so was Plan 9.
Tim Burton seems to think that because he made a success out of Ed Wood he can make a success out of the entire bad movie genre.
I agree, Tim Burtons style i getting old, its all style no substance. I make films and I know its hard to make movies but just because its hard to make a movie like this, doesnt mean it's good. every movie is hard to make and alot suck.
Take a look at Avatar, took 4 years to make that movie and it got beaten by the hurt locker which was a reletively low budget film in comparrison and it was a better movie. You need a balance of style and substance, not one or the other. Thats what burton lacks

Tim Burton movies
Likes : Beetlejuice, Edward Scissorhands, Batman 1 and 2, Ed Wood, Mars Attacks, A Nightmare before Christmas (If that counts), and Sleepy Hollow
Eh (Don't like or dislike) : Big Fish, Peewee Herman's Big Adventure, Sweeney Todd
Dislikes : Alice in Wonderland, Planet of the Apes, Corpse Bride, and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory....these four movies are fucking awful.
So, I haven't liked a single Tim Burton movie since the late 90s....

The Melancholy Death of Oyster Boy was written by tim burton and that book was awesome. and jhonny depp is good at being the crazy weird strange charecters, jhonny depp as nearly any other charecter would be like making morgan freeman play a retarded or making jhon wayne a street mugger.
MrAnonymouslyA 1 year ago
@MrAnonymouslyA Ugh. Johnny Depp is great at being himself, which is what we always get with his work. I really don't buy the idea that his characters are so "strange" they're just variations on characters he's always done. Wonka=Ed Wood, Mad Hatter=Ed Wood+Wonka, Finding Neverland=basically anytime he's put on a British accent. I see no difference between this role and his character in From Hell.
He's also not very emotionally versatile.
Sshelly34213 1 year ago
@MrAnonymouslyA What Johnny Depp appears to be good at, in my opinion, is honing in on a character. He can play something to pin point precision whether it be a character or emotion, but he sacrifices range for it.

I agree that Tim needs to stop hiring Depp. I'm subscribing.

SisterLie 1 year ago
@SisterLie Haha, he has Brendan Fraiser's lips, I also noticed that!
Sshelly34213 1 year ago
agreed. The ending is especially bad.
lulzcoaster 1 year ago
@lulzcoaster u know a was disapointed at tim too but the end and all that crude humor was disneys fault cuz actiolly it was a kid movie (like all disney movies) and they didnt let tim do wat he wanted so they got him very limited

your a fucking loser dude. so you dont like tim burton movies...... WHO THE FUCK CARES! So stop watching tim burton movies then! thats like having the option of watching Dustin Diamond's (screech) sex tape. just because I have the option, doesnt mean I wanna do it. SO I PROBABLY SHOULDN'T! Oh and another thing, tim burton makes all his movies the same because he makes them the way HE feels, not the way YOU feel.
p.s. you dont know shit about making movies.
clintscrazylife 1 year ago
@clintscrazylife Excuse me? Are people not allowed to watch bad films and critique them? I wasn't aware of the fact that only people with happy, positive opinions were allowed to express themselves.
Why is this guy a loser for simply pointing out what is 100% true and recognized by the average movie audience. People are tired of Tim Burton's shtick and some never went for it to begin with. Why are they not allowed to express themselves and speak? Is this not helpful for Burton himself?

I personally love tim burton, his movies are so artistic. i even saw his art at MOMA ,thats his style so y should he change.

P3313 1 year ago
I don't understand people who say Burton makes the same movie over again, or he uses the same style etc...what do you expect? Artists /bands/writers/etc. have usually their own unique style, like Stephen King's books are horror, Quentin Tarantino's movies all have the witty dialogue and over the top violence, and Picasso has strange, colorful paintings that have no diminsion. It's their STYLE, so you can't expect them to just CHANGE.
13Elphaba13 1 year ago
@13Elphaba13 But I would say his best movies came in his earlier years when his style was still developing: Pee-Wee's Big Adventure, Batman, Ed Wood, and the Nightmare Before Christmas. And as I said in my video: Burton didn't make these movies alone. Pee-Wee was great because of Paul Reubens, Batman was Batman, Nightmare had a visionary art staff, Ed Wood, well, that was probably all Burton. Movies are COLLABORATIVE. If the set of a movie was an office, Tim Burton would be your idiot boss.
Lefhalas 1 year ago
@Lefhalas The Nightmare Before Christmas is not Tim Burtons! People just dont get that!!!
NacissaMalfoy 1 year ago
@NacissaMalfoy He didn't direct it but he did write the story. Unfortunately he did co-direct the Corpse Bride. Judging from how those two movies turned out it is easy to figure out which one he directed and which one he didn't.
Lefhalas 1 year ago
@NacissaMalfoy well, he created it so he gets most credit What did you think of Sweeney Todd?
hackensac 1 year ago
@NacissaMalfoy sucks anyway
pandasftuw 1 year ago
@NacissaMalfoy Nightmare Before Christmas is Tim Burton's movie. He didn't direct it but he came up with all the designs, concept, plot and everything. So do us a favor and shut up you Burton hater.
futureanimatior 10 months ago
@NacissaMalfoy yes it is. He created it, wrote it, produced, but could not direct due to scheduling conflicts with Batman Returns.

Not good ones, good ones are diverse.
TheHawkdaddy 1 year ago
@13Elphaba13 Yes except Tim Burton stinks at it.
It's also not "really" his style if you think about it, go google Edward Gorey and tell me there aren't similarities...
Sshelly34213 1 year ago
@Sshelly34213 hi ya sorry this is 13elphaba13's new account, something happened to the old one. Anyway yes I am familar with Gorey's work, yet aren't artists /writers/musicians/etc inspired and draw ideas from their past favorite works? like Burton also like Dr. Suess and etc.
AliceElphabaWonka 1 year ago
@AliceElphabaWonka Yes, to an extent, I just feel like his work is so close to Gorey's. I think it also bears a similarity to Ray Cruz's work as well. Either way, it's not exactly unique.
That is true, looking at his history, it seems like he aspired to be an artist, animator, or illustrator more than a film maker.
Sshelly34213 1 year ago
Woot. Since I launched the website I've helped a lot of people understand that he's made the same movie over and over again. He hasn't been inspired since Big Fish.
mikeythebruce 1 year ago
Big Fish was really great. But if I could tear that movie down a bit I would say it was Tim Burton's version of Forest Gump. Hanks had magic legs. McGregor had magic traction.
Lefhalas 1 year ago
I HATED this movie =/
don't even bother wasting your money!
and yeah Johnny Depp does the SAME SHIT! I'm getting tired of him...
mushra34 1 year ago 2
Too bad for Johnny Depp who should be making better movies.
Lefhalas 1 year ago
Burton peaked with "Ed Wood". It was cool because he showed respect for the true "freaks" who inspired him as a child. With "Mars Attacks" and everything else afterward he got redundant and lazy.
Malocosa 1 year ago
It was amazing how Burton took the worst film maker of all time and made him into a hero. I've seen Ed Wood dozens of times, its a great movie, but Glenn or Glenda was horrible and so was Plan 9.
Tim Burton seems to think that because he made a success out of Ed Wood he can make a success out of the entire bad movie genre.
Lefhalas 1 year ago
I agree, Tim Burtons style i getting old, its all style no substance. I make films and I know its hard to make movies but just because its hard to make a movie like this, doesnt mean it's good. every movie is hard to make and alot suck.
Take a look at Avatar, took 4 years to make that movie and it got beaten by the hurt locker which was a reletively low budget film in comparrison and it was a better movie. You need a balance of style and substance, not one or the other. Thats what burton lacks

if you hate a lot of films... why don´t you take a camara and make your own film? it´s easy speak like you but it´s hard to make a movie like this.
