@ZayanuZaroc had the bubble shield, although agreed the shield itself should have been destroyed instantly, it still would have left chief unharmed long enough to place the instant kill plasma grenade, I believe it was left there after the blast just to show that what the chief used in order to survive the blast, if the smoke cleared and nothing was there there would be a wide spread of skeptics, even if the shield survived anyone could step out fast enough to toss a grenade and retreat back.

@sasaki999pro Even if he threw the grenade, Doom guy could've annihilated him first. It's not instant kill, it takes a few seconds. A BFG "bullet" IS instant kill and therefor it should've at least have been a DRAW.

@ZayanuZaroc the bubble shield I'll say again, would have protected him regardless, yes the plasma grenade is not an instant kill, but its almost impossible to tell when you are stuck by it until you are...well...stuck by it, with the cloud left behind from the initial BFG blast it was perfect to sneak by his defenses.
