@TheKTnAL No, he loves his mirror. He chirps really loudly if I take it out to clean it and we have a "look, who's this" session....with him saying 'that's a pretty bird, blah, blah'...when I put it back.
@AngelOfCourage and @Winkiedoodles my bird snuggles/cuddles with me and all you have to do is like what Winkiedoodles said cut their wings and if it is a family bird not just yours it is a little harder but if you just lay down with a pillow and blanket and set you bird(s) on your shoulder or stomach chest etc then close your eyes and pretend to sleep they should come up to your chin puff up their feathers and take a nap... thats what i consider cuddling
@hippytreeloverperson That is a wonderful thing to have your bird take a nap with you. I have a photo of my wife napping on the couch with a papillon puppy under her arm and KC the cockatiel on her shoulder.
LLLLLLLLLLLLLLLOOOOOOVVVVVVVVVVVEEEEEEEEEEEE HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO SO SO CUUUUUTTTTEEEE AND HE SUCH A CUTY HIM SELF !
i cant get my bird to say anything other than "pretty bird" "no" and for some weird reason he says "boy toy" how do i get him to say other things and get him to stop saying "boy toy"? it's just creepy.... partly cause he is a boy so please help
@hippytreeloverperson I'm sorry to disappoint, but we aren't bird vocal coaches. KC just started saying things he wanted to say. There's no rhyme or reason to the things he learned, and, in fact, he made up several of his very own phrases. Go figure. You are lucky your bird will talk, so probably the best advice is to repeat something to him often and maybe he'll start saying something other than boy toy. Best wishes!
I just got 2 birds. one is yellow and another one is Grey with yellow. The yellow one is suppose to be 6 months old and the other is 8 months old. Can anyone give me tips in how to make them like me? :(
I want to be able to cuddle with them. But they are afraid of mee. :'(
@AngelOfCourage Well, those are pretty young birds so you have plenty of time to gain their trust. We had a parakeet for almost two years before it stopped being afraid and would let you fuss with it. Our cockatiel was hand raised from birth so he was pretty tame already. As for cuddling, we don't cuddle with our birds but maybe somebody else does.
@Winkiedoodles I don't mean literary cuddle with them. xD;
I mean as in petting them and giving them rubbing their cheeks.
And i see..Hopefully i can earn their trust. They weren't hand hand raised so that might be one of the problems. A friend of mine told me to cut their wings, but i feel uneasy about doing that just to earn their trust. Do you think i should do that or wait more till they are a bit older? one is 8 months old and the other one is 6 months old.
@AngelOfCourage I think wing cutting is to keep the bird from flying around where you can't catch it. We never had KC's wings cut, and for about a year or so he could fly around the house (before we got papillons). I'd look around on youtube and maybe ask some breeders or others about wing cutting. I can see where it would limit the birds flight and thus they might get more used to just sitting if you had them out of the cage.
Thanks! I recently put this video in our channel viewer without the transitions and music so its a bit easier to hear; I think I named it Kiss, Kiss, Kissing Cockatiel.
Thanks Miss Pickletoes (love your channel name)! This is the first one we ever had that talked. We had a really nice (but screechy) female and two non-talking males in a row before getting KC really young. We think a lot of his development took place because his cage was real near the phone (and answering machine) and we used to (in the days B.P - before papillons - ha!) allow him to be out and about a lot and would play with him and his toys and mirror and things like that.
You are welcome, and thanks so much for your kind comments! KC was a juvenile when this was filmed; he's since developed a different vocabulary fixation (wants "rubs" all the time).
Thanks for watching and enjoying this. It was an early Cyberlink video and I might remake it with fewer distracting transitions and no music track. He was really in the 'zone' with his talking that day.
Well, that's the very reason we thought "he" was a "she" for quite some time as well. Yes, in this video he was a juvenile. We didn't know how to distinguish males from females and the bird lady we got him from said she thought the bird was a female so you can imagine our surprise when "she" started blabbing.
Linda, thanks for the very nice comments! Yes, the first version was the "world's most romantic cockatiel." It wasn't a very good production. This one is OK, as Windows Movie Maker goes. One of these days I'll remake the whole thing with some of the good software I have now (Pinnacle or Cyberlink or Sony Vegas.) Thanks again! Don and Brenda and KC
You are so welcome Don & Brenda! I have been needing to move on from Movie Maker. Thanks for the tip of the other softwares. Which one would you recommend?
Linda, for ease of use, I really like Pinnacle. However, I have to admit that I've got a ton of add-ons (more $ of course) to the basic edition. Sony Vegas is good but, for me, a bit more cumbersome to add the more advanced effects.
Thank you Don & Brenda! Pinnacle sounds the best for me. Do you mean add-ons to Pinnacle and about how much does it cost?
Your video is totally amazing, but I don't understand why you don't have a million views. I have on my favorites list a video on how to make your video viral. Would you like for me to send it to you? I haven't tried the suggestions yet, but they sound good. I want to get more views to promote rescuing, don't breed, or buy.
Linda, the basic Pinnacle (I have Ultimate 12 but I think there's v14 out) is around $100 and the various effects packages are around $75 EACH. For basic videos you don't need the whoopie stuff but it is easy to get lured into getting more bells and whistles. It makes for some cool effects (mostly I use them on my fishing vids from time to time). As for the "viral" video, I'm not sure of the purpose of that since I just make vids for friends and family to enjoy. Your thoughts? Don
Linda, we appreciate all you do. In reality, my wife is the pet and bird person in our household. She's just has that caring nature, as do you. We take good care of our pets and think it is the responsible thing to do. Blessings, Don and Brenda
I just deleted my last message because I left out a few words in the end (a big mess without my glasses). lol
Thanks for the information!
In reference to getting viral videos, I would like to get a lot of views on my videos so that I can reach more people to PROMOTE RESCUING, DON'T BREED OR BUY!
I knew that was what you were trying to say! You will perhaps proud of us because we didn't breed or buy KC. We actually traded a real pretty white male to a lady for one of her young tiels. We hated to trade him off (his name was Kissy), but he turned out to be a meanie!
Your comments are much appreciated. Every time I see this video I too am amazed and I'm the one that filmed it. I'm thinking of re-editing and posting the whole blab fest and see how it comes out.
Thanks so much, Valleyent! Let us know if you post a vid of your tiels, OK! (Do they speak Dutch?)
KC is a normal grey cockatiel but he has a gift for talking that is pretty understandable. In addition to this one, there's about a half dozen other videos of him performing!
Thanks for the nice comments! He's gone from saying give me a kiss to making a sweet little smacking noise when he kisses. These birds are pretty smart, aren't they!
Ah so cute! His adorable! How did you teach him to do that if i may ask? I've always wondered how people teach them to either sing a song or talk. I'm planning on getting one soon and i really want to learn how to tame him and teach him to at least sing a theme song.
First, thanks for watching and commenting! When he was young we would let him out of his cage a lot and would just interact with him. One day he just started talking and hasn't shut up since. Strangely, after a few years he doesn't say give me a kiss very often. Just talk with your bird, whistle, sing and that sort of thing and see what he does.
This is soo cute! Oh my goodness, I have 2 male cockatiels and they're constantly "talking" in this way but of course we never know what they're saying, now I will pay attention more. Great video =)
Thanks so much! Yes, you do have to listen to what they are saying sometimes. We're so used to this one and his vocabulary since he rattles on and on just about every day. What's amazing is that he makes up sentences; we didn't teach him to do any of that.
Does K.C. not get aggressive with a mirror? That's one issue I'm having with Rolo!

Is he a juvenile?
