I don't think the music I enjoy is a reflection of my intelligence... But, when I observe people getting all into some of the meaningless shit that's out there, I can't help but consider the possibility that it may be a reflection of their complete lack of intelligence. @northeasy I agree with you that those that attempt to make others feel inferior with their music choices are ignorant. However, there is a difference in the music. I have much more respect for guys like Sage who take their talent and make art. They make something reaches in and establishes a connection between the soul of the listener and the soul of the speaker. You can enjoy all films and all musics certainly, but let's not say that Shawshank Redemption is equal to Never Say Never.
Why do people find it necessary to prove their self-worth with the kind of music they like as if there was some type of causation between the two? Surprised to hear his song at the beginning of a t.v. show ('Bones'). I don't watch the show, but I guess whatever promotes this awesome song and artist and gets more people to hear it can't be bad.
I first got turned on to Sage by a mixed martial artist who always used his music as his entrance music (in Jason "Mayhem" Miller).

OK mainstream would be a 'rapper' going platinum or getting radio play or TV time and GZA and Mos Def have had alot of that. Everyone knows who Mos Def is. Listen I am not saying that GZA and Mos Def aren't tight as hell, but the appeal to the mainstream media. GZA's album everyone is expecting a Wu-Tang Album and that is what they get from most of them. MOs Def everyone knows who he is. THerefore he is mainstream. It's like Infinite and Swollen Members not a lot of the "mainstream" even know who they are but you listen to them and they blow away anything that is being played today. 50 is a chump, he is all about his "I get money" instead music.

I'm not entirely sure which claim you're saying is true here, but I'm reasonably sure that Sage Francis is an Atheist, not a Satanist. According to a brief autobiography passage and a few 3rd party bios I've turned up, he's at least very strongly anti-religious.
