It's well synched in places and it seems 2 fit the message and mood of the song, but there are a few images that appear multiple times in the video in various unrelated points in the video.

The video is neither liberal or conservative, it critisizes both parties and the system they are in.
As far as the lyrics and the video contradicting each other, i don't see how that could be. He's quoting common lines people say to excuse themselves for for conducting evil deeds on behalf of their society ("I'm just doing what I was told.") or passively participating in a society that does things you don't agree with (...that's just the way it is.").

I don't think the song is necessarily Troop bashing, I think it speaks to the notion that just "following orders" doesn't make sense. It seems more a shot at the people in charge more than the soldiers themselves. And how some are basically breed into the Military, which was the scenes about the kid being fed by the infantry man, and playing w/ the bomb. lol go to their website. they have almost a 10 page discussion with various people arguing both points. dexter said that you were supposed to thing it was a soldier up until the last few lines. the way i see it, they are trying to make school shooters look and rationalize like soldiers. completely different scenarios.

The video is neither liberal or conservative, it critisizes both parties and the system they are in.
As far as the lyrics and the video contradicting each other, i don't see how that could be. He's quoting common lines people say to excuse themselves for for conducting evil deeds on behalf of their society ("I'm just doing what I was told.") or passively participating in a society that does things you don't agree with (...that's just the way it is.").

Sounds like troop bashing to me. Being a deployed infantryman, it's rather disturbing... Used to love these guys until this song. FUCK THE OFFSPRING

I don't think the song is necessarily Troop bashing, I think it speaks to the notion that just "following orders" doesn't make sense. It seems more a shot at the people in charge more than the soldiers themselves. And how some are basically breed into the Military, which was the scenes about the kid being fed by the infantry man, and playing w/ the bomb. It's all justified by the general who counts the soldiers, then tosses them into the pile of the dead. I think you can still like The Offspring

lol go to their website. they have almost a 10 page discussion with various people arguing both points. dexter said that you were supposed to thing it was a soldier up until the last few lines. the way i see it, they are trying to make school shooters look and rationalize like soldiers. completely different scenarios.

Besides in those discussions Dexter, or any of the band members hardly ever participate seeing how it wouldn't make any sense since they've supported our Troops for as long as I can remember. But whatever, the message I get from the song is that the soldiers are being sent out there against their will and (as one of the lines says) they're just doing what they're told. Someone else is getting bashed here, don't you think?

The point of the song's from the point of view of a school shooter who's deluded from the 'hammering in his head' to think he's a soldier! The soldier bits are probably just to be sneaky or make the song seem more powerful.

i don't think that because they have an opinion on the way things work in the world means you should hate them and cuss em out. everyone has their opinions, and music is one of the ways to express it effectively. pearl jam and even nineinchnails use music to express their views on politics. do i agree with what nin and pj say? not most of the time. but i still love their music, and i can find my own interpretation of those songs.. troop bashing didn't cross my mind here until you brought it up.

This vid doesn't relate to the lyrics whatsoever. They should get rid of the animation and have the theme of the vid set in a highschool or college with rampant students blowing the shit out of their classmates! That relates to the song, but MTV wouldn't play it. (might scare the kids!) MTV is owned by Viacom, a company just as dull, boring and stuffy as any big global corporation. Ironic!!!!!
