@rankingtrevor How do you think YouTube is paid for? You don't pay a subscription because they display adverts to help cover the huge cost of running a massive video site. Think of what you get out of it: hundreds of thousands of videos on every topic imaginable FOR FREE. It's not unreasonable.
"First, be sure you are able to stand vertically on your two legs. Check if both feet reach the ground. Slowly lift your right foot from the ground and gently place it about 1 and a half feet in front of you bla bla bla"
argh. why is this even in my recomended videos page?
In a simple term when you take your foot off from foot break to give gas(accelerator ), to find the bitting point, when you are ready to move off there the hand break ensures you don't roll over the car behind
@ruty1978 It's more important to do that at the entrance to a roundabout than anywhere else - if you get shunted with the handbrake off, you're rolling right into traffic moving from the side.
@TheDaisysMum Someone takes the time to help other people improve their driving, and you make a denigrative comment about his voice??? Why not just say 'Thanks'?
@memento18poker - You make it sound like this was made out of the kindness of someone's heart - "someone takes the time to help other people improve their driving". It is a video made by a driving school! When people are making commercial videos to advertise their business, they need to capture & hold the audiences attention. In my opinion (which obviously you are entitled to disagree with), the video does not do this because the voice & inflection is boring & dull! Much better ones out there.
@TheDaisysMum I know this guy is a driving instructor and youtube helps him get business. But if someone provides a free resource for you to use (you are using it), why insult the person and potentially make them self-conscious? If you made a video and someone made a caustic comment about your voice / appearance / face / figure / dress sense how would you feel? All I'm saying is that a comment that is intended constructively can end up being destructive.
I wish our roundabouts here in the US were as clearly marked and signposted - and that people were as used to them - as they are in the UK. Your traffic engineers do a very good job as do your careful but not paralyzed drivers.
These vids are quite helpful. I just wish there were more including videos covering 4 lane roundabouts...I really hate those ones. I failed my first test at one and stalled the car three times at one... My second test i took the wrong turning. Still trying to get my head round them, its which lane to take that confuses me, plus taking the gap :-S Roll on test number 3....
I know. Our SUV doesn't even have one. It's like on the floor where the clutch would be. I think. (I'm in America with an automatic transmission) I've never used it so I don't know. And the brakes should work good enough to keep you stopped at the roundabout, haha.
If you're hit from behind with your foot on the brake and no handbrake, your foot can easily come off the brake and you roll into the next car (which is a disaster at a busy roundabout).
If this happens and there's a dispute, the police/insurers/etc will look at the skid marks and can tell whether you were using your footbrake, handbrake, both or neither.
If you weren't using the handbrake (no skidmarks where the back wheels were) you'll be held liable for rolling into the next car.
the handbrake should be used if you come to a complete stop, (unless you are sure the car will not roll back or briefly holding the car on the biting point). by applying the hand brake you will be able to move the car away quicker and smother, so there are no disadvantages to applying the handbrake once you have come to a complete stop anyway
An examiner can pass a maximum of three people a day. Because they are only allowed to conduct three tests a day. "Then this wally came out of no where" Sounds like an amazing magic trick if you ask me. Of course he didn't come out of no where you weren't looking.
filter lanes im against!!! YOU HAVE TO KNOW THEM LOCALLY TO HAVE TO BE LANE-PERFECT WITH THEM. When you aint local they are a problem then becuase: the crappy road markings are always scrubbed out by traffic, often way too busy to be able to give way to the right, no sign posts informing you of any possible lane changes you have to make to get from the A26 over to the continuing A26, and always other pratts deliberately changing lanes and forcing you out of yours! LANES SHOULD BE BANISHED
I'm doing Roundabouts in Yeovil and i get abit confused sometimes, but guaranteed it helps if you talk through your actions, it's all about planning.

"secure the car on the handbrake" really? what for? every time i wait? not being funny but do you really do it every time you stop, come on!
ruty1978 1 year ago
@ruty1978 learners find it difficult balancing the brake with the clutch, so the handbreak is easier to start off on.
