The Misfits - Devil's Rain Album Review

I was all the way with him until he talked about liking the Only era. I want to like the Only era, I really do, but come on, man.

Danzig era was great, Graves era was great as well, I usually find them very fitting to the whole "Horror and Sci-fi" theme that they set out to represent, but they did it with very great and different vocal ranges. I just don't think Jerry is fit to be a singer, but I respect that he keeps the name going, because people may look into their older catalog and get hooked by Danzig or Graves. You did good with this review, I was personally disappointed with this album. Sounded like a metal album.

i agree with you on everything man!! , i am a fan of the graves and danzig era of the misfits but the jerry only era too. hes done some good stuff as a singer

I never listened to the Danzig era of The Misfits until recently, but I became a big fan of Graves's version of The Misfits. But with Jerry Only, it just doesn't do it for me at all. Don't get me wrong he's a good singer and the band is good, but its just not The Misfits

great review dude, I pretty much agree with everything u said, (although I kinda liked cold in hell, but hey ur opinion), devils rain rocks, vocals are decent, and the current lineup, while not the best ever, they're still worthy successors to the name, cause really all lineups have been great IMHO!

Well Ive seen them about six times since their graves debut. Yes they do always play at double tempo so they can fit more songs in from different eras. Something for everyone that way. Its a more "live" experience at a punk show with the extra energy. You guys should stay home and listen to the albums, if it bothers you so much. I'm going to see them tomorrow in Cleveland, any Real punks can come out and play!!!

Danzig is the best, Graves is a big divide from the original sound, and Jerry did a nice job on the new album with a new sound that rocks. There are bad songs, but I think it is better than Graves era

I like the cover art of the new album, BUT I would of loved to have Basil Gogos back on cover art duties. Just my two cents.

I loved Danzig era and I love Graves era. I hate everything that Jerry Only has done with the Misfits since. The new album had 4 songs on it TOPS that had any potential and they still fall short. Jerry needs to drop the ego and get a REAL SINGER I also dislike the kid friendly-ization he has for the band now. He doesn't even sing the original lyrics to the classic material any more. If Jerry would of dropped the Misfits name I would say nothing bad about the album, but thats not the case.

I just saw Misfits last night. Theyre really amazing live and if you get the chance you should go see them.

@luv2scream815 i saw them live last year and the year before and i had a lot of problems with the show and swore not to see them again. I thought they played the songs too fast and kind of ruined them. The vocal levels were so low that i couldn't even tell which song was being sung (mainly when they were doing classic misfits), all i could hear was a loud over distorted guitar and bass. Are they playing the songs at a normal speed now and does jerry have the confidence to raise the mic level?

@HardbodyOriginals The tempo was a little sped up so if it bothered you that much it is a little sped up, but not to the point where I cant comprehend the lyrics. By the way, when I saw them I actually thought his vocals were a little too loud. Unfortunately this is the first time I saw them, so I cant compare them. Sorry if I'm not much help.

While Jerry isn't my favorite singer for the band, I enjoyed this album a lot and between what Danzig and Michale have released in the past couple of years, this is in my opinion is better. But there is a song that suspiciously sounds like Killer Creature Double Feature by Nim Vind on this album.

@HardbodyOriginals def. agree on the name change thing. also agree w/ this album being fuckin' solid, 8/10, altho i may have a slightly dif. opinion on the best and worst tracks. jerry did his best (i guess he can't get along w/ anyone in a band other than dez,haha) and the results were, surprising to me, really killer (i didn't like the land/twilight single). i posted a more or less full review as i listened to it the 1st time,on mr.splatterplatters post, defending it since he didn't like it...

All 3 eras have good stuff and bad stuff. I dig The Devil's Rain aside from a few songs and it's stronger than what Danzig and Graves have been doing.

im a 39 year old fan from the Danzig era.To me this is the 3rd misfits band it sounds more pop.if you can get your head around that its not really that bad(i was expecting alot worse after the 1950 shithouse).Plus as a Cancerslug fan im chuffed that Alex has joined GF because i'll get the harder album from Doyle later this year.

Where Do They Go sounds like Die Monster Die slowed down with girl back up singers. I think if the Graves era re-worked this album, it would be great. Not to take anything away from Dez and Chubacabra (...really?), they are solid musicians. But if this were Doyle, Chud & Graves, the album would probably have much more aggression and energy. Only should not be singing - but it is what it is, and we can only wish so much. My opinion: A few solid songs, but Jerry's voice ruins it all. 3.5/10

Great review! I agree with some of your points, although from what I've heard so far, I'm feeling a bit under whelmed. One thing this album lacks is in the "aggression" department, which is probably why I like Dez's two songs. Really miss Doyle’s Annihilator shredding. Either way yes, its really nice to have new Misfits material.
