  • hahaha I love the very last few sec where he said and made the sound of slamming the door twice thats great!-cliff

  • Well if Simon Soundman was taking his baby for a drive into the country when the car broke down. Where did he leave his baby when he walked to Ernies house to get help?....LOL..

  • Copy Cat! 3:52

  • i like it

  • He actually uses the word "car" once! (at least..he makes the sound for it the other times)

  • This is the only sketch where we will see Simon Soundman before he looks a lot like Charlie Chaplin.

  • Gee He Diden't Hafe To [Slam} The Door.

  • LOL, funny stuff, I used to have the album this sketch came from.

  • What episode did we get the picture from?

  • What did Jerry use for the sound effects?

  • lol!

  • That's not simon soundman. That's fats blue.

  • simon soundman and fat blue are twin brothers.

  • fat blue did not come about until 1972 so they revised simon so he does look diff with black hair instead of red to avoid confusion

  • Dumb question, but why did he give the sound for 'car' just to say the word car at the end of his story?

Simon, you're the challenge of a lifetime!

  • I wondered the same thing about why Simon said the word "car" when he usually makes sounds come out of his mouth.

  • For the sake of argument, Simon makes the sound for "automobile". When Ernie identifies the sound, that's what he says. I guess he just chose to say car the second time, haha.

  • Love Simon Soundman! His sounds were fun to hear. BTW, does anyone find it odd that he just knock on the door & Ernie just invites him in?

  • Not in that day & time.

  • I think Simon got supersensitive at the end. I recognize the horn as a Ford of the late '60s or early '70's because I'll never forget my '71 Ford Pickup's horn. I also think the recording of the car was made in a cement parking garage because the reverberation is so obvious.

  • I remember this one. I had it on one of my records! I don't remember the show version though.

  • LOL! I'd like to use your *telephone ring*

  • ROFL! Simon Soundman rules!

  • why do they have two types of phone and train sounds

  • Is the baby in the car?

  • that's what i was wondering.

  • Simon has a baby?! o_O

  • Probably. Looks like simon soundman is going to get arrested for child abuse.

  • *how

  • i love he rubs his nose on the counter @ 03:10

  • Simon seems to have a lot more patience with Ernie than he did with Bert in the tuba sketch. I guess he's just willing to repeat himself when he wants something. And I agree with everyone who asked, why did he leave his baby in the car?

  • Ernie's laugh always scared me when I was little and it still scares me U.U

  • chicken and cow amd horse and fire truck

  • That *K-K-K-K-K-K-K* me up!

  • are simon soundman & fat blue twins????

  • Yes. In the sketch Simon enters Charlie's restaurant and get "served" by Grover, he implies that Fat Blue/Mr. Johnson is his brother. But, unlike Johnson, he does not faint in the end...:-)

  • The "Fat Blue" muppet was what was known as an "anything muppet", one whoo could be a template for variious characters. So very likely, Simon Soundman IS "Fat Blue".

  • I STILL say that Fat Blue looks just like Dennis Franz.. call me crazy if you want.

  • I love how Simon dances around when he does the train sound.

  • Simon makes a differnt chicken sound here to the one where he,s asking Grover for a chicken sandwich.

  • Maybe the car just needed to have it's (choking sound) adjusted.

  • dis iz ace beyond aceness 5 starz 4 dis

  • Anyone else remember this one on their Ernie's Hits Record or was it called Ernie and Bert's Greatest Hits? Circa 1980 or 81. I'm sorry it got lost now wnonder how much it would be worth on ebay?

  • Yes, I have "Ernie's Hits" and someone's selling it on ebay for $8.00.

  • It sure is on Ernies hits

  • They should've released this sketch on the Sesame Street Old School DVD set.

  • Yes I wish they came also in holland with Dutch subtitles.

  • Hey... is anybody else wondering where the baby is while Simon is at a stranger's house giving his story?

  • Yeah...I was!Talk about Simon Soundman being irresponsible and not bringing the "Waaaaaahhh!!!" with him!

  • When did kika broadcast the original version???

  • They didn't. I relooped the English audio with the German video that was already posted.

  • it was greatto actually see this skit i used to have it on tape back when i was a wee lil tot hehe it was a tape of ernie and berts best hits

  • I wonder how Bert would've reacted to/dealt with Simon. :D

    ...Hilarious skit!

  • Since Bert was a "Square" & somewhat smart, I think he would have put the volume knob from the "Ernie -Radio Skit" on Simon to shut him off!

  • LOL. I can picture Bert turning to the camera, tight-lipped, raising his eyebrows, and yelling "Ernie! Someone to see you!!"

  • wow old school goodness

  • So he left his *waaaahhh* in the *vvvrrrooom* back at the *chugachugachugaWHOOOOOO* crossing? Ernie should *rrrriinnggg* the *wahwahwahwahwah*...

  • HOLD IT, I noticed that Simon Said 'Car' at the end of his sentence when he can make the sound that the car makes. what gives?

  • Good one! Simon the Soundman was unquestionably a major inspiration for Michael Winslow...can anyone guess who I'm referring too?

  • yes!!!!

  • I believe this was Simon Soundman's first appearance on Sesame Street. He didn't look the way he was when he left the show back in 1993.

  • This was my favorite of all the Simon Soundman sketches, thanks so much for restoring and posting it!

  • Man, what a **hee haw, hee haw**

  • Lol

  • don't remember seeing that one

  • It was also pretty funny when Ernie rang at Simon!

  • I like the way Simon pantomimes while he makes the sounds. I think that Ernie was smart to make him repeat several times for him.

I think Simon is cool. But man he'd probably confuse to yep-yeps if he rang at them!

  • This is why there's a lock on the door, Ernie.
