Not only was American soldiers constantly shooting wild knowing full well we all were civilians, UN soldiers had unlimited access to children and spared them no mercy, pedophiles!
16,000 brutally killed by american troops. Fast forward 5 years, and American tax payers are supplying the very same warlords with weapons, later placing them in government.
So who was America looking after again?
And just to make it clear, the body of the troops were dragged around by ordinary citizens, not gangsters
Such blatant lie and another American president trying to cover up the injustice made against us with just and morality. The day he is referring to, I was there. Despite being tormented by ruthless warlords, never have I ever witnessed such cruelty of that of American and UN soldiers. While the naive public in America honor these murderous acts. Not only was
God help America...that speech was pregnant with rhetoric...rhetoric to persuade American Society that the military mission was just and moral. Maybe in the beginning yes. But Clinton turned away from the humanitarian and turned it into a nation building mission. The first strategy was the plan to kidnap Aidid. Of course the people got upset and threatened as the heavily armed US army encircled Mogadishu. After the catastrophe Clinton had to save his ass by appealing to the American public.
And another thing, US blamed this failure largely on UN. The truth is, the plan to kidnap Aidid and the nation-building mission was a US tactic. In a 1996 presidential candidacy debate, Clinton acknowledge that the UN was not part of this mission. Yet the American society still raise their glasses to American heroism in every American war.
@MaxamillianArturo so what? I don't know if you're American but American foreign policy is riddled with flaws, self interest and corporate interest. So many American foreign policies from the past and up to the present is just murderous. Read your books.
@MaxamillianArturo no i haven't, but my heart goes to the military men and women and their families. Have you? If you have, then you should know, it's not all that glorious. Not all American ex-military men are proud of US foreign policies that they have to follow and fight for.
President Clinton should not have set the deadline of pulling out of Somalia by March 25, 1994. He should have allowed the military took take whatever actions were nescessary to capture Addid and the people who shotdown the black hawk helicoptor and desecrated the bodies of American soldiers as he put it . Cutting and running before the mission was over was a mistake!!!
@Chad3150 It was republicans in congress that urged him to cut and run, they didn't even want to set a date, they just wanted to cut and run. Watch the youtube video where John McCain urged for troop withdrawl in Somalia, so get your facts straight before placing full blown blame on Clinton.
@Hperman09 I never said they were in control. They took over congress in January of '95, but just because they didn't have the majority in '93 doesn't mean they don't have a say in things. like I said, there's a Youtube video with McCain urging congress and Clinton to cut and run. Other Republicans urged cutting and running to, but it was President Clinton and the Demoratic controlled congress that set the March 25th deadline so that they could give an orderly transfer of power to the UN
@mr19932001 I saw that video to sometimes i question on what he seen different in Iraq in comparison for the different reasons he gave for a withdraw from somalia, Speaking of cut and run most if not all repubs wanted a push for a hasty withdraw from Beruit after the barracks bombing.
@Chad3150 ok...so why do i have a feeling that the only people or lives that matter here are American lives? Did you know that 200 Somalis died in those battles? And capturing Aidid won't bring peace and stabilization to Somalia anyway. I think it was good that Clinton knew where to draw the line for his candidacy's sake and for the sake of thousands of other soldiers who would've been deployed to Somalia had Clinton continued on. It could've been a full blown battle for the sake of vengance.

@mr19932001 Dude back then it was a democrat-controlled Congress. The republicans didn't take over until 1994.
