Cradle of Filth are more popular because they have more of a gothy sound that those "kids" like nowadays. Dimmu's gotten their own fair share of success though (but they've stuck to a more black metal oriented sound). There isn't much of a rivalry between the bands, however, so much as there is between the fans.

do your own research....you'd be surprised at the results. and if Cradle is untalented, then so is Dimmu...cuz they sound the same (except for the singer's voice). the only difference is that Cradle focuses more on vampirism (which parents are more tolerant of) than satanism...which in turn leads to more mainstream appeal, since the kids' parents are less likely to get on their ass about vampirism than satanism...hell, they even dress the same.
