I used to love this show...then of course once Nick @Nite came along I finally saw the original and fell in love with that one too. But yeah, this was the first version I ever watched
I agree that the newer show is far inferior to the original, but come on, give it a break, i personally think of them as a different family and find this clip pretty funny.
i wonder whether there is anyone who prefers "the munsters today" to the original munsters series. even john schuck likely preferred the original, even if he wouldn't admit to it. if someone prefers "the munsters today", it's likely someone who has seen hardly any of the original series. i can't imagine what it would be like to see "the munsters today" without already being very familiar with the original series. nevertheless, john schuck was good in some other shows.
@coventrygardens I actually prefer Munsters Today being totally honest and had watched every episode of the original as well. The old show is still great of course. I prefer Howard's Grandpa, Meriwether's Lily and Marilyn and Eddie were great as they progressed into the 90's which both Hilary Van Dyke and Jason Marsden done a marvellous job with. The writing was funny, and the comedy understandable. Schuck played a different Herman to Gwynne. I loved them both dearly.
@coventrygardens No. I saw the original show as a child and it just didn't interest me at all. I saw the new show and then warmed to the original afterwards, like a lot of the UK audience. Both shows in my opinion are great! But I do prefer MT! :D
I remember this awful thing! It was a syndicated show that ran on Saturday mornings. I don't think it even made it thru an entire season it was so bad!
This is from The Munsters Today a syndicated version of the show updated with John Schuck as Herman. It ran from 1988 to 1991 with Lee Meriwether as Lily and Howard Morton as Grampa
Fred Gwynne and the original Munsters were the best!!! You cant hope to do well with a new "Munsters" just cause the original was so good.

The problem with this show wasn't the talent - it was the low-budget cheese that killed it.

the original cast was much better IMHO. However, if they had invested in the makeup / costumes / set a bit more, they would have had something...
