Saying the bacteria infect the nerve is misleading. The bacteria infect the pulp and initiate an immune response which results in pulpitis. If left untreated the pulpal tissue will become necrotic and the bacteria will be able to colonise the entire pulp cavity. Which dental school did you go to????
