@tonikukke use this a rough guide for any lifting: when you can do 3 sets of 15, go up in weight; if you cant do at least 2 sets of 8, move down weight.
@tonikukke A long time with only 5kg! They would be good for the beginning to build your muscles a little. But you need the heavier ones if you want muscles like this guy
You can do dumbbell bench press with good form.However,you have to PUSH the weights with your pecs and actually CONTRACT the chest muscles during the whole movent with moderate speed,otherwise your pectorals won't develop and your front delts,triceps,biceps will get into play and grow instead.
@paintballKid545 You need to braethe correctly to have fully oxegenated muscles so they can work well. Also if you've ever had a really slow rep and held your breath, when you stand up you'll feel dizzy - lots of people have passed out doing this during weightlifting. It's easier to breathe out on the way up or the dead part of the lift because when you bring the muscle down it's teh most effective way to oxegenate your muscles.
@QuikTingg How could you not have understood? He told it.. Anyway, the wrong form is to lower your elbows in an angle that causes your elbows to point straight out from your body or sligthly upwards. The right form is to let you elbows point slightly downwards in the lower portion of the movement, and to "tuck" your shoulders into the bench so that the chest muscles are vertically above your shoulders.
my pecs look like a "V" shape, overall chest looks like a "W" shape when i flex. do you have any advice on how i can round out the outer sides. i've learned that the cable flyes weren't helping because i have that gap in the sterum area and the cables just made it look worse . dumbbell flyes have helped so much, not coming up all the way keeps tension on the chest. even though the dumbbell flyes help put on size, it hasn't help with the rounded look.
Was doing this exact technique in the gym and some big dude told i was doing it wrong. He said the right way was the what scott said not to do it. fecking knew i was right.
I've been training for almost 8 months, 3x a week for 30mins-1hour. But I am not that ripped compare with my gym mates. I don't know what's wrong with me since we follow the same workout.
What a poser. He has all that muscle and he's training with lightweight little 20 kg dumbells. Man, I am thin and I do 20 kg. He should do 26 or something with those biceps and body.
@andre931228 Wildly guessing someone's experience is a dangerous act. Then again I forgive you, since you're only 17 years old. You do not know how much I train, so. lol. You see, caring how much he does is linked to the fact that he's built. A guy this size does not have to go pick up some little 20 kg. lol. So, you can never be 'sure' about something. You'll learn that in a statistics class (hopefully).
@0x28 idont think hes wildly guessing as this guy is clearly in great of shape, also hes cofident enough in his abilty to make instructional videos so he im guessing he knows his shit, also the like bar would back me up on that. also going back to your first point, andlike @andre921228 said, its a intruction video, he shows the right and wrong way to do things, and talks the whole time, lifting heavy weight with wrong technique is dangerous and he also wouldnt be able to talk with heavy weights
@0x28 i relaized you wernt worth my time your just a troll looking for a argument u say were talking bout yourself but when u say what a poser he should be lifting more that not yourself, also i went to private school so im hardly uneducated. also the sign of a weak argument is when you have to point out vocabulary errors.
@AFGThugonomics To reduce the strain on your shoulder, try keeping your elbows closer to your sides. In this video, his elbows are at 90 degree angles from his body; if you reduce the angle, you will reduce the stress on the shoulders :) Type in 'Scooby Chicken Press for Pecs' for a video on a different way of doing the chest press. Hope this helps :)

Thanks for the video man. I had some pain recently after switching to DB from BB and the bit in the beginning where you explain what NOT to do is exactly what I was doing. So cheers, thanks for the info!
Great video Scott Herman; very detailed and informative. Though I've been doing dumbbell presses for a couple of years, this video helped me maintain a crisper form. In conjunction with your "Tricks" video, (though humbled by using using less weights than before), this helped me to feel a better pump in the chest.
@Sleepyhead54 Yes you have to. That is the key to any sport. Breathe in concentric, breathe out eccentric. Same for swimming, running, whatever. Have you been to a gym before? A lot of guys yell like a gorilla, too. In Martial Arts this is also known as the 'ki'. How are you going to push weights without giving it your fullest? You need to be a BEAST. Watch a tennis match. You will also see them doing shouts.
@Sleepyhead54 personlally, i prefer the "chooo choooo" sound effects, gets your muscles pushin dem weights like a choo choo train on a really lovely old track in western boston from the 18th century during winter, whiel you rest in the 1st class cabin up front near the conductor, and chat gentleman topics to other gentlemen as you enjoy your ride in the first class cabi nin winter, whiel yoru pushing weights in 2011 in on the train tracks choo choo
When you arch your back this much you may as well be on the decline bench, sure you can lift more with your bach arched, that's why the powerlifters do it, but for bodybuilding, flex your core, keep your lower back FLAT on the bench and you'll work the whole pec rather than focusing on the lower part. Remember good form > bad form with extra weight.
@SmartAceHole82 flat back works 100% of your chest, wont be able to do as much weight, but for chest development or any muscle development weight is not a factor. Good info Ace
@physicalgrafiti12345 first, im not scott, but yeah you can do them without it but it wont be the same results cause with the bench your arms comes more to the ground so you push more your chest :/
@djchaitanyachauhan listen. any sort of weight training will not effect your height end of story unless you are using ridiculous weight. it is just an old wives tale...
@djchaitanyachauhan No, it is a myth that weight lifting stunts growth and had zero effect at all on height. Your height is determined by genetics. If you need prove pick up a puberty text book or take me for example. I started lifting weights at 15, I was 5 foot 6 and a half. Now nearly 17 I am 5 foot 11
@xpkux Start with 30 pds. Make the more reps you can do. If you do more than 15 (like say 25), take heavier weight on your next attempt. Try like 35 then 40 pds if you still make more than 15 reps. If you are beginning, adjust your weight to make 15 reps. You will increase your weight nearly every time you gonna go the the gym. In three or four weeks, make less repetitions (7 or 8) and take heavier weights.
my arms always shake whenever i try performing a dumbell chest press i was wondering if u guys can give me advice on how to fix this problem itll be well appreciated :)

KaonNeutre 8 months ago
@xpkux
It depends on the results you want from your workout.
For my mass gain chest routine on the bench press i'll do enough weight so that I can only do 10 - 12 reps
but if you want more slow twitch muscle fibres (more of a defined slim physique) do around 15 reps
Lift heavy but keep good form at all times.

@harmonicminorshred if you incline (up) the bench the upper part of your pecs will work more than the lower part of your pecs.

@milotist
You are still going to grow, unless you use steroids or some shit like that.
The whole thing about your not going to grow is a myth.
