Alan, this is "possum under a rock".Hopped down off of the Porch for a minute & stumbled across this-it's great! Hope to get up to Mayberry Days sometimes. Looks like a good ol'time! Well,I'd best get back over to the Porch with Romeena,Spot the talking dog,Me-They,Big Maude & all the rest. Maybe Floyd will even show up!
You know Maggie was pretty on the Andy Griffith show. But she is one of those rare women who got even prettier as she aged. Never saw her looking better than this. And an excellent voice as well.
Yes, it's a good video, but I'm confused. Is that Hoke, who played the guy who married Charlene on the t.v. show, playing the part of Ernest T. Bass? Also, although Maggie looks and sounds great, it sort of ruins it that she has to read the words. I'm sure with an hour of rehearsal she wouldn't have needed them. She had sung that song when she occassionally made appearances on the road with the Dillards over the years, so it hadn't been 30 years since she'd sung it. Still, a great clip.
Actually at that time she hadn't sung There is a Time with the Dillards in years. Since then, she has but this was 1995. The first cast "reunion" live show was in 1991 at Opryland. Other than that, they hadn't performed together since "Return to Mayberry."
WOW some singers voices diminish as they get older, but her voice sounds as young and beautiful as it was way back on andy.BTW she was and still is a beautiful woman, mother nature has been very kind to her.
Oh man!! It must have been such an honor to have Maggie (Charlene Darling Wash) and Hoke (Dudley Wash) at an actual wedding ceremony... and to have Maggie to sing! She's as beautiful as ever and Hoke... well, uh, uh, it was good to see him too!!
Maggied only sang that song one time back on The Andy Griffith Show and at the time this was videoed 30 some years had passed. So, she needed the words to make sure she remembered them correctly.
I love that song,,,,it is my favorite song of all time. So beautiful and her voice fits it just right. I never heard the full length version before this.
Maggie looks absolutely great! And her voice is still wonderful too. Just watched this episode last night--this song is beautiful. What a great show--what a great time--wish I could live in the show and leave today's world behind...
Wow! How I wish more of these cast members were alive. Do you know if he ever attended Mayberry Days in Mt. Airy, NC? What a thrill it would have been to have met him!
This song makes me cry!

There's also a different verse in this version of "There is a Time" - it wasn't in the TV
show or Reunion performances...

Yeah, at the time she hadn't sung "There is a Time" for years so she needed a "cheat sheet" to make sure she didn't mess up the words.
