I think for some people it would be helpful to watch this! Although I am happy uni student, I live in a country where it's for free (on the other hand, fruit is incredibly expensive) and too many people are going there just to get drunk, get discounts, fulfil their parents' child dreams etc. In the end, they will eventualy be unhappy, because they even don't know what they were studying for and have no or very little life experience. My passion in life is to help the sick. Unfortunately, people are more likely to see your thoughts as valid if you have a degree. Degrees can help you to better serve others, as in my case, even just being in nursing school is helping people to see my raw diet knowledge as valid. My advice is to go to a community college for as long as possible, live at home while you go if you can, and use any leftover government aid that you receive to pay off your loans as you go.
I think Education is important ( even if Uni's suck at providing em) Think about all the flawed stuff that is going on in there, there are 16 chapters to each topic, and each one of us who gets through them has an opportunity to write the 17th that would change the entire book for the coming generations, Just like you are. universities dont close courses when they know that there is a saturation in the desired field, its your responsibility as a student (if you are serious about your career path) to do the research before you apply. Universities are there to make money, just like any other business in this world. If you choose a course for fashion design, it doesnt take a genius to figure out that the chances of u landing a job in that field are minimal.
Jeesh, not all countries have fees....and guess what - since you'll have way more time on your hands (no/little need to work) and less stress (how on earth am I gonna pay back these loans?!) studying can be so much fun.

Out of high school I went into an apprenticship program and got paid to learn a trade and got real world education. Young people today are afraid of hard work. I know serveral people with masters degrees who are thousands of dollars in debt and make far less than I do. Plus their lack of real world practical knowledge. Go out and build something.

I did a I.T. degree and always wondered why we had to do all this random learning. When I finally worked in the industry for 3 years, I realized that I could have done the job, with only 1 subject worth of knowledge. And I did a total of 24 subjects. I find this a little insulting. I am studying premed now and I truly feel that I am not wasting my time. I work hard every day to learn all of the material and stay the top of my class. I love my teachers, they have put "thinking" for me on another level entirely. I majored in Sustainability & now garden & do hippie shit all the time! :p While most people in college binge drink & eat unhealthy, not all do & I'm glad I went because it brought me to where I am today. But I really liked your video...too many people are pressured into uni & don't think there is any other alternative. Follow your passion, not your parents' orders!!!

Thanks to the Occupy Wall Street protesters, M.I.T., one of the nation's top ranked universities, has just decided to release all their courses for free! Just google 'Open Courseware, MIT'. They offer certificates of completion for those who actually are dedicated enough to finish the courses. The Internet, and all the free information already out there is a huge game changer.

I have a BA and MA that will be paid off this year. It only took me 7 years because I don't spend my money on stuff I don't need. Yes, the post-secondary education in America right now is (in my opinion) a result of greed from corporate shareholders and poor regulation. However, the truth is being stretched. Have you seen the purchases of many of these people wanting to get out of their debt? Stop spending on new cars, high priced clothes and drinking. Start with not being part of the problem.

@choochangz Totally agree: when I saw the amount of crap and lies we get fed in the schools... wow, no way my children are going to be trapped in that. Home schooling is much better. Learning does not have to be done in a box by some people stressed out people. Also these days if your kid is judged a bit weird by some weird people they get put on drugs... Many times they get convinced to take vaccinations despite numerous evidence it kills.

As a college graduate, I will not dispute this video, valid points, but it is also what you do with your time and how you go about your education, there are alot of other factors involved.....going to college and partying is not a good idea but to actually study and LEARN and grab hold of every opportunity you can is another story, internships, mentor professionals in your field, look at those you admire, look at the world around you- where do you want to be, what difference do you want to make

I wouldn't trade my degree for ANYTHING. It enabled me to work at a non-profit helping people. Yes I had to take out loans but nothing's perfect! What about trying to reform the system instead of just dropping out? I wish you'd try things before you criticize them.

Freelea and Durianrider has to 'label' themselves for validation on their self-identity and low self-esteem. DR has "VEGAN" and "ORGANIC ATHELETE" and crap like the labelled on him all the time. It's a desperate cry for acceptance and validation, and shows the root of his eating disorder ways, and obsession with achievement. He was diagnosed with Schizophrenia years ago but does not take any meds. Harley and Freelea both get Disability pension and encourage others to do the same.

Like the first comment about highschool being a baby sitting service lol..im a high school music/computing teacher in Sydney's western suburbs and it is baby sitting 75% of the time at least. I did a I.T. degree and always wondered why we had to do all this random learning. When I finally worked in the industry for 3 years, I realized that I could have done the job, with only 1 subject worth of knowledge. And I did a total of 24 subjects. Doesn't really make sense does it.

I have been through this cycle of debt and am positively disgusted by the pressures society puts on people to pay exorbitant amounts of money for things their hearts aren't truly in.

I find this a little insulting. I am studying premed now and I truly feel that I am not wasting my time. I work hard every day to learn all of the material and stay the top of my class. I love my teachers, they have put "thinking" for me on another level entirely. Sure, there are students who burn their parent's/loan's money on parties during college, but that doesn't give you the right to generalize.There are millions of students who work hard all throughout school and become successful people.

In California, at least, the standards at a University are still high. I'm currently in graduate school, and while its easy to pick some YouTube clips of college students having fun (thats all they are doing, from what I can see), I think its funny how people try to paint college kids as doing "nothing" but partying.
