A beautiful song sung with a beautiful voice. Petulia Clark sung the english version and both versions were released in New Zealand. My father liked Lolita's version best, it took him back to a time when he was a prisoner of war in Germany in WW2.

This song remind me when the world was big, before mobile phones and internet. I was also in the merchant navy in 1971. I am agree with "auskipper" this was one of the most popular songs ever among sailors around the world, and when I hear the song now.....I have to stop and think, it is a very very nice song and she .as you said......she ownes this melody!

Even though we weren't perhaps entirely sure of the lyrics.

It didn't matter.

Hach, wie schön! War 6, als Song die Charts eroberte. Presste Ohr immer direkt an Lautsprecher des Radios und war völlig hingerissen :-) Bis heute werde ich jedes Mal sentimental, fühle mich irgendwie glücklich, wenn ich ihn höre oder singe (singe gerne Karaoke. Habe Song schon öfters zum Besten gegeben - auf deutsch (!) - u.a. auf Malediven. Song kommt sogar bei Englisch-sprachigem Publikum bei jung (!) und alt gut an ;-) .
