I love this film. Indian men need to wake up and smell the bacon! They just don't realize what passionate women they have. I feel that if it wasn't so much against their culture and religion, you would see a lot more Indian women explore lesbianism. I fell in love with an Indian women about five years ago. It wasn't hard for me to fall in love with her. I had never met an Indian women like her. I will never forget her and loved her from day one and will love her until the day I die.

@FlorenceBanner You are right in saying that arranged marriages have a higher success rate, but the fact is that a lot of women don't opt for divorce even if they are not happy or have abusive husbands because of family pressure. I know from personal experience, even the families in which the parents are highly educated look down upon divorce and many a times force their daughters to" adjust" saying that it's in their destiny. So, now you decide what's better arranged marriage or love marriage.

There was a big outrage after this movie was aired and it did not play in the theaters for long but as I hear they are becoming more tolerant now. Also I think Deepa Mehta always makes movies to evoke strong reactions from people and that is wat she gets for all her movies. Although I do agree that all her movies are so close to reality and very nicely made.

As an artist i understand the argument regarding posting copywritten material BUT i think sometimes people forget that places like this promote the work, there have been a number of films i have watched on here that i have enjoyed so much i went out and bought, without seeing it on youtube i would never have known the movie existed let alone see it. There are a number of indie movies that hit a cultural market but remain in a specific demographic, people outside dont get a chance

I think the bigger issue is people posting work and passing it off as their own, by not saying who the film has been produced, directed and written by, as well as omitting who the lead actors are. Thats when i totally agree that things should be removed as they arent crediting the team. But i still believe in the freedom of expression when it comes to artistry, without it it becomes a soulless money making machine and removing the beauty of emotion.

As for people who can access my material, well if they like it enough they will go out and buy it anyway, despite what the industry says a lot of people do that and buy anyway. The movie industry will not suffer it is far to big, crossing over to the majority of countries, where music is a little more specific, if this was about music id be more inclined to agree with you

Hey Smasheditorial: MOst people watching this film here are those won't have access to this elsewhere -- because of the situation they might be living in, viewing such movies might be illegal in their countries. Or may be they have never heard of fire. Then there are others like me who saw the movie when it released in theatres in the late 90s.
