  • come on come over? :P

  • HOW do you get this sound out of a fretted bass?

  • marlowe, you rock, my friend !!!!!!!

you really helps us a lot

  • wow it's like if i'm listening to Jaco good job Master!

  • Great vid, Mrlowe, but in your other 3 finger technique vids u show the right hand up close. It's hard to fet the right hand fingerings from this

  • Have you ever managed to get that crisp sound you've got in this vid. while playing live? If so, through which amp?.. (Got a MM signature as well, but havent managed to get that crisp J sound while not plugged through Pedalboard -> headphones)

  • Hi Marlowe, what effects get that Paco sound?

  • the beginning of the lick is from "Come on, Come Over", huh ?

  • Very interesting...

  • HOW MANY BASSES DO YOU HAVE???

  • Hi Marlowe! I love your videos, they're really helpful! But the thing is that I've seen Jaco's vhs video, and he speaks about his technique... he said, that he uses only 2 fingers always, and uses the other 2 for muting, sometimes his thumb... BTW nice moves there ;)

  • Itrs the notes of the bassline that are "Jaco like" not the number of fingers:-) I should have been more clearin the desription, will correct it, thx

  • hi marlowe thanks for your lesson ...thanks to you i play the beginning of this song.

  • this bassline was in my beginner book lol

is that were u got it from?

  • @tristandejoy its from a Jaco Pastorius song, i believe

  • @admosquad It's based on the line to Come On, Come Over

  • Hey Marlowe, do you like Mick Karn?

  • I havent heard that much, but the little ive heard of Japan I Mick Karn was great

  • Mick Karn is so underated ! Definitely my favourite bassist along with Jaco and Pino Palladino. Karn's tone is beautiful thanks to his Wal's !

  • something is weird about that bass...i just cant put my finger on it...

  • Unless Fender made a weird Jazz Bass back in the day that I don't know about, that's a Marcus Miller signature Fender Jazz. It has that great big pickguard/control plate and I think you can only get it with a maple fretboard/pearl inlays.

  • great stuff! very jaco like. l've just been watching a jaco dvd i've got and your playing sounded great. jaco and his work in weather report has always been my favorite and you've got the groove. thanks.

  • Great!!!

  • Thank you!!

  • you could get a better tone from that awesome bass... apart from that, it is a good vid

  • and how could he get better tone?! this sounds fuckin' killer!

  • that's just an opinion haha.. that tone he's making is easy to get with any bass... but he can make unique fender tones out of that baby

  • No reason to box himself into one tone just because it's unique to that bass.

  • No reason to box himself in another tone if he can get better ones...

  • To quote a Mr. adrian5b: "that's just an opinion haha.."

I don't think you quite grasp the point. People have different preferences. Best is subject to the eye of the beholder. All I'm saying is why not have a tone that's easy to get with "any" bass, just because of that reason? It's not about how rare the tone is, it's about how it speaks to the player.

  • Thanks very much for this

  • Yeah !!! Comme steve harris de maiden !

  • bravo +++++

  • i love jaco, your jaco-like bassline is cool

  • hey

    that was really good

and u have a acoustic bass

    y dont u use it?

  • MANNN!!!! TWO THUMBS UP!!

what was your eq and equipment setting on this tone? it has very beautiful sound. plz let me know

  • Hello Marlow !!

Can you give me the Name of this song pliz

  • Sure "jaco like bass line 3 finger technique"

Satisfed? ;-) (its just a groove i made up inspired by Jaco)

  • hey, gr8 video, where can i get the tab for that?

  • is it a marcus miller jazz bass ?

  • yes

  • How long did it take you to get the 3 finger technique down? Ive been working at it forever and everytime i try to go faster with it i keep going back to using just my two fingers.

  • porno music

  • @Dbeatdistruction Really? You had to say that right? It's okay, you don't have to get music.

  • Thank you.

  • My hand locks up after a few moments worth of doing this technique . Do you Set your bass up differrently ? or am I approaching it all wrong? what should I do?

  • to isoprimus:

    play it slow

  • Playing slow = great... haha

...and hello Marlowe, I have to ask this...

(I'm coming up on my first year anniversary of playing bass and something occured to me)

...for left and right hand muting does it make sense to describe the left hand as just letting the notes out from kind of behind the bass... because they should be there anyway, its all about pressure and independent motion, isn't it? and yes, i am way too analytical (I'm a geologist, go figure).. but I really love working for fun!

  • to lestalk:

Thats was a vague description if i ever heard one:-D

But its hard to explain playing techniques with words (hence my videos)

  • :) yes, vague indeed, that why I watch and enjoy your videos often...

  • what kind of bass is that my friend?

awsome job by the way and thanks a lot for the lessons.

  • look at my info, its the marcus model

  • sounds like the bass line to come on come over. you play it really well. good work

  • you use pandora px4d?

    is it for bass?

    great sound

    it comes from px4d?

  • That's a really cool bassline!

  • whats the pros and cons of the 2 and 3 finger technique? someone plz PM me, coz my teacher told me that i had a good 2 finger technique and to add the 3rd finger for more speed im a begginer.

    thx

  • Well, actually 2 fingers are enough, but in many cases 3 fingers are helpful. As for me, I use 3 fingers the very moment I have to follow some fast bass drum lines, or if I have to play a fast group of notes for a long amount of time. Then, I have to say that Wooten uses 2 fingers and he does anything you want :). Anyway, my bass teacher uses thumb, index and middle, using the same motions of slap tecnique. It depends on your personal taste :)

  • some of jacos jam in e yeah?

  • you're a sweet bassist :p

  • When the rapture comes, everyone who posts videos of shitty sounding slap bass will be cast into perdition. You, sir, will be spared by the grace of god and your own good sense!

  • I second this remark.

  • awesome dude you rocks!!!

  • nice bass
