  • Shoes are the problem, we're all supposed to be barefoot to begin with. It only seems uncomfortable and unsanitary to you because that's all that you were taught, however, the truth is our feet become very unhealthy whilst wearing shoes. Shoes cause many foot problems, even minor problems like flat feet or poor posture. There's about 31 muscles that are dormant whilst using shoes, this is why it is important to go barefoot. I love my TOMS, but please quit brainwashing everyone about shoes.

  • 0:27 defeats any TOMS tan. got that UPS tan!

  • If you have shoes why don't you just were them

  • my college always does this and i never even knew it was about children needing shoes and toms. fail on that. i just thought it was my hippie school

  • If you can't go more than a day barefoot, your feet need strengthening, badly. Appreciate? Should be more like a week unshod. Or wear shoes that promote barefoot mechanics. Toms shoes need to be redesigned, the last thing we want are thousands of children developing North American podiatric issues because we cram their toes into these glorified ballet shoes. If Blake had any podiatric knowledge whatsoever, he would know that rugged sandals are a much better option.

  • it's not hipster bullshit. it's caring about other people and being thankful we have a way to those in need.

  • WHAT SONG IS THIS?! at the start ? D:

  • Wait, they are trying to get people to not wear shoes when they are a shoe company?

  • trip out! you are all being brain washed. Why are you without shoes. We live in America! Are you stupid? -___- morons! to the maximum!

  • @Jenuvio Blake mycoskie founded toms after a trip to argentina, one day without shoes is a charity and awareness event so you've completely missed the point, people are being brain washed? are you an idiot? yes we live in america, thats why we should take these opportunities to help regions less fortunate than ourselves. Raising awareness isnt moronic its the complete opposite. YOU'RE a moron for trying to sound like some hipster asshole saying we're being brain washed about a charity event

  • The dudes working the kitchen barefoot is fucking disgusting, not mention it's a DHEC violation, plus your feet would get fucked up doing that. Yeah, go barefoot is real cool...right up until you spill 350 degree grease accross your toes.

  • @Sdyates22 Hahaha lmao agreeed!

  • @Sdyates22 if he was spilling that hot of grease, im guessing it would not only hit his feet but splash up on his legs right or at least his ankles? cant 350 degrees burn through pants? so eaither way, shoes or no shoes he would be burt

And my guess is that he didnt really go barfoot and only did it for the promo, TOMS wants to get a point across not break healh code violations.

  • I don't see why everyone doesn't just buy toms shoes.

  • ok so i love toms shoes and what he is doing is great. But why do we have to wait to do the ONE DAY WITHOUT SHOES? can't we do it anytime we want?

  • @shibbyyayo89 blake mycoskie founded the company* and they're trying to get a point across, its not some arbitrary thing. one day without shoes is to raise awareness.

  • Btw isn't that unsanitary to cook barefoot ? That goes against health codes. Why should people possibly get sick ?

  • At my One Day without jews event only people who are not jewish get together and march ,Instead of putting shoes on people that don't have shoes,we put jewish people together with people who have never seen a jew before. It's jewpendous!!

  • I started my own event called "One Day without Jews" to raise awareness about people who grow up in ares where there are no jewish people!

  • Philanthropy is more than just an effort, but also taken into account are the actual changes that have been made. TOMS Shoes is so refreshing and such an uplifting and inspirational success! n_n

And no offense, buuut the dude's tan line at 1:53 bothers me. :D

  • I prefer barefoot to shoes, it's healthier for the foot structure and there's nothing like it. Shoes and socks are too constricting for me. Too uncomfortable.

  • @xXBonesxXInvaderxSin Really? Are you kidding? Try going barefoot until you were ten years old. And you had to walk miles in sharp rocks and dirt just to fnd food, water, or shelter. If someone gave you offered you some shoes, I'd bet you'd take them in a heartbeat.

  • @Gymcat415 I don't live where I have to walk miles without shoes, I make the choice not to wear shoes, I am more comfortable without shoes. If I could give shoes to all the people without them, I would. Being barefoot is just my own personal preference. As for the healthier barefoot thing, it was a study I saw on Doctor Oz, so calm down. Please.

  • @Gymcat415 STUPID. Foot structrure is improved if you wear the right shoes and there are billions of people who are at risk for some life threatening foot diseases if they are barefoot.

  • I did One Day Without Shoes, I've done this several times because I love the feeling of being barefoot..... unfortunately even in April it snows in SoDak. I had to wear shoes to school but right when i got in the building the shoes came off. I actually enjoy going without shoes, i do it all the time during the summer, its a great feeling.

  • i did a 7 mile hike barefoot. everyone else had hiking boots. people tried to avoid mud and puddles, i walked through them. it made me feel free. on top of that, being able to actually feel the ground underneath you really adds almost "another sense". at the end of the day, everybody's feet hurt and ached besides mine. i actually prefer no shoes to shoes.

but i love my toms <3

  • Um going barefoot is fun

  • holy shit that's tomorrow!!! i can't do it cuz i have school. i am rescheduling to august 8th.:DD

  • Mankind have been NOT wearing shoes for centuries before modern history. Obviously it's not so bad.

  • i actually thought was a naturalist movement before watching this video, however i dont think the big issue here is that they dont have shoes, more so that their governments are forcing industrialization and development onto peoples that are not prepared for it, let alone that they might not even want it

  • Finally! I've been looking for a way to flood the third world with free shoes so I can FINALLY put those shoe making peddlers out of business and crush their hopes and dreams forever. Thank you TOMS shoes!!

  • It's the 5th!

  • Our whole entire school contributed to do this. We got the school board to approve this event in school. Our school is excited to join. In order to do the event we have to donate slightly used or new shoes or at least donate $2.

    I can't wait for tomorrow. :)

  • I can't wait until April 5!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! <3

  • Walking barefoot most places is actually pretty damn easy once you get used to it. Going barefoot when you're used to shoes will not simulate what these people go through 'cause your feet are weak & pathetic. The reason that some people need shoes is because of a condition called podoconiosis caused by irritants in the soil in certain places, not because their feet hurt. They should find ways to empower these people to acquire their own shoes rather than having a massive, never-ending shoe drive

  • Is this in the uk? Barefoot day? Would love to do this... x

  • HIPSTER BULLSHIT

    WHATCHYOU KNOW ABOUT FEET?!

  • NOTE---this year it is taking place on April 5, 2011 !!!!

  • Posers. I was born shoeless.

  • wear slippers..

  • soooo, instead of raising money to advertise "no shoes day" (which does nothing. your just barefoot for a day. but nothing is solved) how bout we actually...you know, get shoes for people who need them?

  • @megathria going barefoot raises awareness, to you and to people who ask you "hey why the heck are you barefoot" and that leads to more money..er well, shoes i guess, being sent to countries that only the rich can wear shoes.

  • Sooo is it april 5th, or 8th?

  • @mckelroy88 last year it was the 8th, but this year it's the 5th :)

  • toattlly doin this... hope an adminastrator at my school flips.... ill just show him our sign

  • check out this video called

beautiful Asian girls in traditional dress

VINAHUT.COM: with every purchase of our handmade bag, you lend a hand to save a village

  • Im going.

  • Beatiful!

I will never forget you :)

  • great idea, who needs workplace health and safety?!

  • can't wait for next year! <3 TOMS and all the people who work and help there

  • the whole purpose of this day is to make people appreciate their shoes, because we often take shoes for-granted. it's to show you how the kids who don't have shoes feel.

  • I really hate false charities, but this takes the cake! Not only does TOMS make their shoes in sweatshops (minimum wage where they are made is a sweatshop) but they make millions of dollars a year and donate shoes to an area where they are not only not necessary, but due to the heavy amount of walking done by indigenous people causes harm to their lifestyles. Shoes cause major damage to the foot and joints of the lower body.

Save your money, donate to the Red Cross, not this SCAM.

  • @ChrisSudlik And you would you know this?

  • @215052188 assuming you meant "and how would you know this" easy, it is all either on their site, or can be easily found by researching the minimum legal requirements they claim to follow and following public records. Its not like they keep any of it a secret, they just frame it in such a way as to appear a charity when instead they are a profiteering American Corporation with all the greed and corruption.

  • I like the concept of this, but i walk around town without shoes all the time. Its so much easier on my body, and so much more comfortable.

  • HA great people! now keep the shoes off. it will change your life for the better. It is more comfortable and healthier. My back pain went away permanently and so did a lot of other chronic health issued I had. Keep the shoes off

  • ....dont mean to be that guy, but humans lived without shoes for thousands of years.

  • @kombatmaster7 for about 1,500,000 years hominids have been going barefoot, even in the northern wastes of greenland and the hottest parts of the Sahara. Foot ailments are ridiculously rare to the point of surprise when they actually occur in 100% barefoot countries, and so prevalent to not have foot problems would be a miracle in the 100% shoe obsessed countries.

  • i saw children walked in a flooding area without wearing any protected boots or shoes and they got their feet soared. tsk

  • my birthday is also on the 8th

  • Gives me the chills, I love it.

  • I just bought a pair of toms shoes and love the idea that a kid in the third world benefited from my purchase. As a graduate microbiology student, I totally understand that no one should walk around barefooted exposing themselves to possible infections from podoconiosis. These kids can also get Tetanus, which is a severe disease from a bacteria called C. tetani isolated from the soil in every environment throughout the world, especially since these kids don't have the means to get tetanus shots.

  • The only problem I have with the Toms shoes concept is this "one day without shoes" idea. I understand that it's good to have empathy for these kids by going a day without shoes, which is a caring gesture. I'm just puzzled at why one would want to expose their own feet to possible pathogens for a day. Walking on street sidewalks barefooted where there may be tiny pieces of metal containing C. tenani just doesn't seem very smart to me.

  • I'll probably get voted down for this, but I just think that going a day without shoes to honor kids with podoconiosis is like going a day with unprotected sex to honor AIDs patients. It just doesn't make sense to me. We should do something else such as spending the day cleaning out our closets of shoes and clothes we don't use and donate them. That gesture is more likely to help the unfortunate than exposing ourselves to possible pathogens for a day.

  • @noiseratchet16 you have a point, but doing this helps us appreciate what we have, and hopefully will encourage us to do donate shoes to others..

  • Hey April 8th was my birthday! Man if I had known about this earlier I would've gone barefoot on my 17th birthday too. I'll go barefoot during next year's One Day Without Shoes :)

  • I'll be shoeless on the 5th!!!!!!! whether my school likes it or not:]

  • @stangirl13 8th kid...8th

  • i love going barefoot, but if i didn't have a choice of wearing shoes on cold days, hot asphalt, rocks, or other rough surfaces life would be a lot harder.

  • 1:31 what hat is that guy wearing? like the style.

  • I got in a fight with a teacher that day, and got kicked out of a few grocery stores for doing this. It was well worth it though. I guess I can't say I know what it's like walking in their shoes, but man it was an experience

  • So looking forward to April 5, 2011!

  • 0:20 and that restaurant was closed down that day due to health code violations haha

  • I Was Shoeless!

  • @internecineTurbine so you want them to drop all of this work and just forget about it? by wearing shoes these kids and adults can avoid life threatening disease and can have at least a little comfort that we have. yeah we need to give people water but also "little" acts like this can help to restore a broken spirit.

  • @internecineTurbine

at least they are focusing on AN issue.

  • I would like to join your group<3

  • i walked that day(((:

  • What a great cause! I missed out but will make sure to participate next time. I love what TOMS shoes is doing.

  • I actually got a little angry watching this video. I came upon it because I've been watching videos of barefooters. I'm one of those people who feel shoes are actually the problem, not a lack of them. Sure, they protect weak feet from rough surfaces, but the foot problems that the regularly unshod third worlders are having are probably more the hygiene thing and less the shoe thing. Shoes deform the foot, cause nail problems, and make us walk differently then we're biologically intended to walk.

  • <333

  • I walked 6 miles barefoot. My feet started bleeding. And I had them off allll day :P

  • editing the video uf it

  • i enjoy this video :D!

  • 0:27 that's some white feet O_O....i wish i would have known about this i would have done it next year i guess :)

  • Hahaha i walked around for miles!!! with my friend mali ....&& i end up making my big toe bleed O.O..SOOO WORTH IT :} ppl stared at us like wtf? && we told them everything bout this...they loved the idea :D...even at stores they would try to kick us out! but we explained on wut is happing some understood but some didnt :o still fun 2 walk around bare foot tho && understand on wut some ppl on the world walk around bare footed :]

  • next year i will for sure participate, i was home all day cuz i'm sick but this is such a worthy cause, it's so great that the ppl that work for tomshoes are helping to make the world a more educated and better place.

  • i went barefoot today to my christian school and was forced to put my shoes on. thats where our hypocritical stereotype comes from i guess.

  • my day is still not over but so far no shoe thing has been fun!

people stare jajajaja, and when they ask i love telling them!,it was fun and for a great cause, when i walked my dogs i stepped on a few rocks jajajajaja, thanks for being and inspiration! and toms will be on my birthday and Christmas list again! jajajaja

    love norma

  • Yay Oklahoma!! Loved seeing people barefoot today!!

  • it's kinda strange that everyone use shoes for a fashion statement and they're really meant to keep these sicknesses in the feet to never happen.I'm barefoot right now. Theres pebbles from rocks and the road and just stepping on them made me realize that in other places around the world there's much more worse things than just pebbles and rocks. Like dirt, insects, plants and much more. I think I'm making awareness to myself that I shouldn't take things for granted even things like shoes :)

  • @SlyCooperFan4ever Dirt, insects, and plants? Seriously? I don't know if you realize this but you can get bug bites on your arms too and get sick or be fine. And stepping on dirt never hurt anyone. And Id rather step on plants than rocks. If you needed to walk around barefoot to realize you shouldn't take things for granted you're pretty dumb.

  • @Shinjimae I never meant it that way. I always knew that there are people who don't have shoes and they deserve to have shoes. And i was just giving examples of the things that they probably walk on. I know there are WAY WORSE than just insects and dirt. I never meant it anyway like that. And walking on the road never made me barley realize that I shouldn't take things for granted. They suffer a lot. You don't know how much it kills me to know there are people without shoes...gosh...:[

  • I could not do it because it was raining where I lived and also, if we walked around school without no shoes, we would get in trouble.

  • I went my entire school day barefoot. I went to all my classes, even the men's public bathroom on campus..with no shoes. I thought about how disgusting it was too. I made 3 trips through the quad, which is all cobblestone as well, and didn't feel good to walk on at all. Life without shoes would be difficult indeed.

  • My Class Did That Today! It Was Cool(: Now I know How People Feel That Dont Have Shoes. But It Was Fun My Teacher Took Pics And Hes Putting Them On Toms Website We Are Learing About How They Dont Get Alot Of Food And How They Get Sick:( LOVE This Vid!

  • @canary2345 They get sick because they've been exploited, are being exploited, and continue to exploit each other instead of creating programs to deal with these issues. I bet the people in africa will feel really good that you walked around barefoot all day instead of doing something productive like doing a fundraiser to purchase shoes and food for them.

  • @Shinjimae its more of a way of feeling sympathy, understanding the issue, and initiating awareness. but if you think its that ridiculous why dont organize a fundraiser.

  • i havnt wore shoes all day :) i feel acomplished, and i even ran the mile in pe..people were like wow..

  • i did it. its such a great cause!!

  • me and a few friends were barefoot for about an hour before the office tried to give us detention. We were all disappointed, so we walked to our classes with our shoes on :( but as soon as we got in class took them off. Our feet still got really dirty. We're planning on spending the WHOLE day Saturday barefoot also.

  • this is SO amazing!

i participated all day today in the pouring rain

    i made a vid:

    youtube[DOT]com/watch?v=MqqlVEHXwrU

it kinda sucks, but i just wanna spread this awesome cause <3

  • i did it today! my school flipped :)

  • wow amazing.

  • practically everyone at my school went barefoot and they all got either suspended or detentions.

  • i walked around school today with no shoes. it was an experience for sure. it made me realize how terrible people have it in other countries and poverty stricken areas. the floor at school is ridiculously disgusting, but i cant imagine walking on gravel and unpaved roads, along with the gross things caught in them. i will be buying and sending a pair of toms shoes very soon. great movement, i got quite a few of my friends to join. =]

  • YAY! My family and I just came back from walking!!! WOO WOO. Praise GOd that so many ppl went to raise awareness!

  • Barefoot in CT!

  • The only people who need protective footwear live near volcanoes, in very unsanitary conditions, or very cold places. Regardless of that, no one needs giant, cushioned running shoes, which are the bane of foot health. I wish all of America were like the beginning of this video, but instead people wearing shoes think I and these people are crazy. They're crazy for having skeleton ruining boxes attached to their feet.

  • Bearfoot in houston tx!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • this is going on my tumblr ..

  • Someone told me it was the 16th.... so i didn't do it today. :( Can I still do it the sixteenth anyway? Or would that be wrong?

  • @Stephanator24617 You can do it whenever.

  • @WhoaKaela

Do you even know what Toms shoes are for?! You're a dumbass. People aren't walking around to "feel their pain" they're doing it to raise awareness for the amazing cause Tom has started.

    Ignorant asshole.

  • i did it ! :D

  • Haha I went barefoot at soccer practice as long as I could but defintely not wearing shoes the rest of today!!

  • @dannyboyhc hahahahahhaha !!! that made my day !!!

  • It's written at the end of the video lols

  • i will go barefoot today!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i feel so bad for the poor and i will try and help as much as i can!!anyway i sometimes like going barefoot. :D

  • yay! lets all get athelte's foot :D n infectionss :D

jk that was mean. i might do it around college

  • Texas State University Lambda student organization members are barefoot today!

  • Shoeless IT guy in Vegas, here.

  • I have been barefoot since 8am! Gotta say though, walking on cobblestone through the quad...not so much fun. o_o

  • This is the best thing ever! :)

  • WOO!!!!! TODAY'S THE DAY!!!!! AND IM NOT WEARING SHOES!!!!!!! can't really feel my toes, tho! lol

  • Shoeless in Des Moines, IA on April 8, 2010!

  • this is so cool i want to do it. do you know the name of the song in the backround?

  • UTSA will be shoeless.

  • Can't wait for it tomorrow :D

  • I am usually barefoot, so this isn't anything new for me. :) But I will be more than happy to participate tomorrow!!

  • IM DOING IT!!!!!!!!!

  • Already signed up and going to the event in housten at 6:30am(:

bought my fifth pair of toms today(:

    I'm ready!

  • i will be raising awareness for this cause on Thursday April 8, 2010. Truly an inspiration :>) Walking through Boston with no shoes tomorrow!

  • I am having my classes go shoeless :)

  • I'll be shoeless in two days!!!

  • I love hipsters.

  • i'm going barefoot on April 8th :)

  • I WILL be barefoot on april 8th School rules or not.

  • Im going t odo it. Hopefully i will be able to, they dont let us not have shoes at school.

  • this video made me smile [=

  • I will be joining this<3

  • One Day Without Shoes, i'm hosting an event in Arizona at the Goodyear park at 3:30...if YOU live near there, please come and help support me and everyone else that I have coming. on April 8th, 2010.

  • This accomplishes nothing, at the end of the day we'll still have shoes and they won't. IF you actually want to make a change donate some shoes/money to Toms or any other organization willing to help these poor people out. Going shoeless for a day is absurd and utterly pointless in my opinion. I'll be donating money or shoes instead.

  • @arniesalmon If you researched it at all you would know that its an awareness thing so you can realize what its like,

  • @arniesalmon yes, but the point of this is to raise the awareness of this problem in other places in the world. Through this maybe people will be more motivated to donate money or shoes to these people.

    ignorance at its finest.

  • I am a Bonner Leader and we are sponsoring a mile walk on April 8th.

  • ahhh, where can i get this song?!

  • I'm really gonna do it.

I don't care if its raining here thursday@holland.

    I'm gonna do it.

    I wanna do it.

I'm sending it to all the people I know, and ask if they wanna join, and do it too!

  • Actually, this isn't stupid. I get what they are doing. They are wanting to see what other people have went through. And yes, life IS hard with out shoes. Us people are so needy and we should see what other people have went through.

  • @LucasJandRakim can the people who volunteer and go on missions and service trips go barefoot? is it okay for the real people to go barefoot? just wondering. I'd appreciate you not stomping on real barefoot people's feet.

  • @elemkuil Starbucks liberalism at it's best. "Nuff' said"

  • I'll be shoeless on the 8th!:]

  • are we aloud to wear socks? my school is really strict?

  • @Zoeislameyo ask your school and tell them what it's about. Most people are usually cool with it.

  • what is the name of the song?

  • @TheKrankinos 2:15 "Sideways" by Elliot

  • @TheKrankinos it says it at the end of the video

  • Honestly, I think this is a WONDERFUL thing to support. What if we were in those countries barefoot? We should be grateful for what we are privileged to have and show our support to those who dont have what we have!

  • I will be barefooted on april 8th.

And will be walking three miles.

    Alsoo, we're taking pictures.

    Lots<3

  • i would do it, but i dont think any store would let me in it :P

  • Comment removed

  • @chubs402 Uhhh, why not just skip the stores for one day? Do it and maybe that way you'll actually become grateful for what you have, especially the shoes on your feet, which not many children have.

  • Going barefoot is awesome. I run barefoot all the time, because it is so awesome. Wearing shoes weakens your ankles and atrophies your toes. I am jealous of these kids who can go barefoot all the time, they are the lucky ones, stop telling them they should wear shoes.

  • @xBlade08Productionsx i guess ill be the only one to agree with you

  • yeah but awareness also helps. I dont think this organization is saying that taking off your shoes isgoing to change the world forever, but spreading awareness will help, maybe it will make more people want to donate. I mean i get what you mean, but idk i just think that this gets people to think. that's all.

  • i will be barefoot april 8th :) you guys are an inspiration :)

  • woooo!!!

  • You are so ignorant.

  • Where can I buy shoes to be apart the this solution? I'm very interested and I will be apart of this event on April 8th!

Btw for those that think this is stupid, you need to understand that being barefoot that day will catch people's attention to bring awareness to most hopefully all.

    Awareness leads to solution.

  • I will be barefoot on April 8th.:) I will also buy yet another pair of the shoes. This is a good oppritunity for people to open their eyes and see what life is like without shoes..You don't know unless you try, which is why some may think it's stupid. Try it, then see how you feel about the shoeless people.

  • hope you can come to my country GUATEMALA to help our kids without shoes :)
