I think you could have avoided the seam puckers if you had just used a very narrow zigzag stitch to sew the seam. That way the seam will stretch with the fabric without pulling the fabric out of shape as you sew.

I have a question: the part at 3:24, what do you do with the surplus when you have sew the sides? Sorry if my english isn't good but i normally speak dutch :) thank you!

The extra that comes from the original crotch seam will come off -after- you make sure they fit.

I sewed on the lines first, let her try them on and then when I got ready to serge the pants, I serged next to the sew line. My serger has a knife that I can use or not use and it automatically cuts the excess off.

Hi :) Thank you for the answer; and i understand it, but i don't know if my mother's serger has a knife too. If my moms serger hasn't one, can i do it with a pair of scissors?

@PIPOOKEN I should have a knife but in case it doesn't just use the serger as well as you can.

No you can't use scissors to cut the fabric after it's sewn because a serger sews over the edge of your fabric, usually cutting it clean before looping over the edges to keep them in place. so just practice first with a scrap piece of fabric first then you'll know what to expect.

That is a great way to deal with stretchy fabric. I see it is better to do it your way rather than the way I do (I usually just stretch it on the first go round). Your way the seams come out straight. My way they come out crooked. Next time I am going to try your way even though you have to sew the seam twice. The end result is better.

And I wasn't even trying to have to sew it twice I was just solving a problem ;) I figured other people always have that problem and probably won't know what to do!

But they turned out nice!
