@lilSnubby I should say! I reckon Amy got her unusual eye mascara extension treatment idea from Sharon and to top it all, Sharon's 'Our Day Will Come' is now on the new Amy CD. Ok, so Sharon was not the first in the 60s to release 'Our Day' but she was high profile in the UK in the 60s and it had loads of air play. I loved her voice then and still do and the fantastic guitar work of the Fleur de Lys.
@birdonaline Actually, Sharon Tandy had something of a mini classic on the UK Soul club scene with Tony(?) as Tony & Tandy "Two Can Make It Together" in 1969 (re-issued in 1971). However, Lorraine Ellison is easily the most Soulful - and the original - version of the song, written and produced by Jerry Ragavoy.
Meanwhile, if anyone needs to hear a really appalling version of this oft-recorded classic, look no further than David Essex!
Cover? I think Sharon Tandy sang this first and is still by far the best. I remember being immensely moved by this in 1966 on a local cafe juke box. I have the cd now and still love it.

I'm going for assisted suicide having just heard duffys version of this song. SHE MUST BE STOPPED. I have the Sharon Tandy version on vinyl 45 with hold on as the b side. Wonderful
No I'm sorry. This IS the best version of this track. But as no-one bought this - and all her other fantasic records....she went back to where she came from.: South Africa. I think she's alive and well, and until not long ago, was still singing.
There is an expression in the Bible somewhere I am sure that reads, "the land of the living dead" which may or may not be purgatory or just an old person without energy waiting to be lifted up. Whatever!?! You mite find her there?
no matter what people tell you this was the version we were all listening to late sixties often on our own after being chucked in again!!! and it often like some kind of soul voodo worked
naw.. sorry folks, It's Llorraine, then terry reid, then several others before we get to this insipisd and soul-less rendering... she doesn't even break a sweat.
The song is SUPPOSED to be a desperate, begging plea... as tho' her very life depended on it.
naw.. sorry folks, It's Lorraine, then terry reid, then several others before we get to this insipid and soul-less rendering... she doesn't even break a sweat.
What a song, what a performer, what a voice, what a way of singing ! It's such a pity Sharon went back to South Africa so soon. I think this version is the definitive one. I guess that Bette Midler got lots of inspiration from Sharon'version to do her own in "The Rose".
Of course, Lorraine Ellison's version is the best and is even one of the best soul songs ever. Lorraine can't be surpassed but I find Sharon's version worth too.
fantastic vocals and production

I like this one best of all the versions I've heard. Not as overblown as some of them.

@PamK36 I agree. I've heard plenty of versions of this song and have always felt the same. This version is just as effective without overdoing it.

@5000AV, i've held your views for years. Sharon's voice is beautiful and, along with Grace Slick, so much underestimated. This version is SUPERB
merseymain 1 year ago
@merseymain , I also think Grace is "Slick" with her voice.....Hearing "Somebody to Love" just blew me away!!!!

Didn't she change her name to Janis Joplin after pulling off the pastic skin to give her chin a longer look?

With all due respect to the superlative version by Lorraine Ellison; taken on it's own terms, this is an extremely groovy version.

I love Sharon but this is not her best moment. This song will always belong to the late Lorraine Ellison who recorded the original version.
