You can't compare fight scenes of today with a those of a bygone era. Give credit where credit is due. For its time, what other fight scene came close to this one?? Very very few. If you want another pretty good John Wayne fight scene, try " Seven Sinners", where he co-starred once again with Marlene Dietrich.
O.K. O.K. I just watched the QUIET MAN again and this fight BITCH SLAPS IT!!!! What movie is this! Getting into the DUKE RED RIVER-QUIET MAN-TRUE GRIT-BIG JAKE-THE COWBOYS-THE SHOOTIST and of course THE SEARCHERS...Please tell me the MASTERPIECES of this #1 box office star I left out!!!!!
A little repetitive, don't you think? I mean it had some good moments, definitely, but it doesn't measure up to any well done fight scene these days. I do like the camerawork, though, definitely.
One of the best photographed and choreographed fistfights of all times. Better than the fight in "The Quiet Man". I'd love to know if either Wayne or Scott accidently hit each other during the filming.
No comments? Good Lord! This one had actual teeth to it... There were some knuckles eating meat, thanks to Marlene Dietrich, sexy as she was. Randolph Scott had eyes for her(for real), but she only had eyes for John Wayne, on and off-sreen, so therefore knuckles hit American meat... Probably the greatest barroom brawl of all-time!
This is from "The Spoilers" (1942).

Awesome scene; don't start a fight with John Wayne ( 6 foof 4 and 285- 300 lbs) or you may end up doing your own gravestone =D

Actually rumor has it that the two actually really "duked" it out in this fight (obviously not the ones where the doubles are.
