People have asked about the movie that the chase is from. It is BLAZING MAGNUM or, its more recent title SHADOWS IN AN EMPTY ROOM. It was made in 1976 and starred Stuart Whitman, John Saxon, Martin Landau and others.
I don't think it is the Bullit Mustang. Those movies appear to have a late 60's mustang or Mustang shelby sort of body. This commercial, from the side, that car is a 1972 Mach I mustang, from the back is a 72 or maybe a 73, Mach I. The front grill missing so that doesn't help. The placement of the running lights in the grill is a good way to tell them apart. The hood doesn't help either.
I would like to find a clip with a better view. I love those 72 mustangs :-)
It's actually from a 1976 movie called "Shadows in an Empty Room," which was made in Montreal. According to IMDB, the movie is also called "Special Magnum" and is about a Canadian police officer searching for the person who killed his sister.
Is that the chase scene from Bullit? When I saw this commercial for the first time I spit out my water! My favorite along with the pig and the guy who lives under a rock!
Looks like me merging onto I-10 during rush hour, even with the quick licks too! Great commercial, Geico. Ranks up there with the pig, but pig still number 1 with me .......wawawawaweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!
@mdt115 It's from a movie called Bullit. Perhaps the best car chase movie of all time starring the Legendary Steve McQueen. Also the inspiration for Ford to release the "Bullit Mustang" (gorgeous car IMO).
@mdt115 actually the style of the chase is from a movie called Special Magnum, but they had to reshoot it, which is why you notice a few newer cars in it
@northernlights1013 They probably blocked it in Canada thinking that would prevent the Canadian band Holy Fuck from realizing Geico blatantly ripped off their music video "Red Lights". Search for "Holy Fuck Red Lights" and see for yourself.

In America if you try and do car chases, it ends with "you are fined for wreckless driving!"

@acbareford -my guess is the original film footage was shot around 1974-75. I used to drive a 73 stang- cool car!
