you want a challenge play mass Effect 2 on insane. I swear I died so many time while playing that game it sent my rage levels to the point where I was screaming gibberish at the tv. I was so mad I couldn't perform complete sentences. Lol,man the feeling of accomplishment when I got that achievement for kicking the games arse on insane....felt like I'd beat god himself....then of course my xbox got stolen and my account lost so now I'll have to do it ALL OVER AGAIN!!!! I like this idea, it will give the game more replay value then the previous games. To get used to the idea of the game so I'm not completely lost if it's different, I'll play the normal mode of the game, beat it once so I'm comfortable and then go get my ass kicked kicking it old school style. Sounds hella fun and should make the wait that was added worth it.

@JakRizen2 I know what you mean. I mean Bioshock 1 and 2's only replay value was trying out different plasmids and seeing different endings. A tough challenge like 1999 mode will add a mad challenge to it and give you reason to experiment with different game styles.

Personally I HATE the difficulty of games today. "Oh you died? That's OK we auto-saved it when you opened the door." FUCK that. Yeah it's "convenient", but annoying at the same time. The last time I seen a game over screen is when I decided to play an Old School Super Nintendo game just about a week ago. I'll definitely be playing Infinite on 1999 mode.

I got a life that stresses me the f out, i don't need more stress in my games. i usually play my games on normal mode. Also games back then were so f hard cuz they had to be so they didn't become boring, So ye ramping up the difficulty is just a lazy way to make the game more "fun" casual > hardcore gamers any day.

My favorite example for ultra hard game modes in recent years is definitely Dead Space 2's hardest mode (I forget the name). In this mode you died in virtually 3 hits from any enemy, resources were extremely limited, you had no checkpoints, and were only allowed to save 3 TIMES during the entire game. It's so freaking hard that less than 5% of the player base for that game has beaten it, me included, and it took me SO MANY tries to even make it to the FIRST strategically planned saved spot.

Anyway, I'm very excited about 1999 mode because while I get pissed about dying nth number of times due to having a three-hit health bar (i.e. Uncharted 2's Crushing mode) or dealing with absurdly smart and/or broken AI (re: Mass Effect 2 and eventually 3's Insanity mode), I still like it better than better than making it too easy, like ANY of the Wii games except Super Mario Galaxy 2 (Holy shit, did Nintendo jack up the difficulty).

I can't play nowadays games (playing costs too high), but I like difficult games, although I don't like trying some stuff over and over again... a bit stupid, I could be playing another games instead, reading books, doing million other things There are just too many things to do and not too much time.

Instead it'ss better to give the option for the player to change difficult at any time. So if you get tired of trying something, you can give up, but continue playing with no in-game consequences.

Once I got in the first "boss", the difficulty was risen up in 500% O.O Like I've beaten all the previous races easily, but to pass one of these boss races, I had to try dozen times and learn every single curve, train every single step and hope for luck. I finished the first race, but on the second one, the stress made the fun vanish, so I lowered the difficulty and had fun.

In defence of Skyward Sword, (assuming that's the game Joe was referring to) though there is certainly hand holding for a good sized chunk of the beginning, you do have your sentient god-robot inhabited sword taken away multiple times.
