@johorridoh Ok. I don't think it was the only car. i've heard of 'leaky' chassis before.. so I just wondered. I love the design and may use it in mine.
Yes there was a father and son team making them in Australia. I think they just sold the project to England. I believe there is at least one company producing them in the USA as well. They are pretty high dollar and I expect they would be reluctant to sell body sets on their own. I've had a google to see what is around in glass bodywork. I think of doing a set myself from time to time. At least one replica has been registered for road use.
There is the true tube by tube reproduction 917 chassis and also a cheaper version with a monocoque tub and at the rear is all tube by tube faithfully as the 917, this version complete without motor or transmission costs about the same as the Lola t70 coupe.
I meant to type a thumbs up and pressed the wrong hand. So two thumbs up here. What have you heard "kblackav8or"? Because over at the GT40s forum everything looks good so far.
If you want more sound, there's good news. First, there are plenty of soundtracks you can find of nothing but pure exhaust notes, including onboard around various tracks. Second, a new documentary will be debuting on CanAm within the next year with more onboard fotage than ever before revealed.
For the soundtracks, check anywhere - B&N, Amazon, your local retailer *might* have it. Some good ones? I really liked "Open Pipe Symphony" and the whole "Exhaust Notes" series of CD's. For vids, there's a great vid of the Rothman's Porsche 956 w/ Derek Bell on all the greatest tracks ("Onboard 956"). I don't know all the specifics on the CanAm documentary - I simply visited the info stand on the documentary at Road America for the ALMS race this year.
I just remembered the name of the documentary - I pulled out the brochure I got about it from the stand at RA ALMS weekend. It is called "CanAm Thunder" and is due out in January of 2008. It will feature all sorts of engine firings, racing, and yes, even lots of rare onboard fotage from back-in-the-day.

Was the 917 the first "pressurized" chassis car? Somewhere in the chassis is a gage that shows chassis pressure.
gbowne1 1 year ago
@gbowne1 yes , but I don´t know if it was the first or only car.

Or similar body style?

I think the company is called RCR (race car replicas).
I was looking at them yesterday.
I can get a Lola kit cheep, and throw in an LS7.
the 917 kit, they just started making, there is only one right now, but more are on the way.

Be ware of RCR. They are beginning to have a checkered reputation.

Google laser 917
Panzerjaeger1993 3 years ago
Thats ugly as hell and it doesn't look like a 917. Try RCR like said above or WerksCars, they make 917 and 906 but they are way over a $100K.

Good question, mate. There hasn't been a 917 in CanAm competition in over thirty years.
