been reading the coments and im still not sure about this i understand the reasoning about this how does this help performance or does it just waste gas
basically anti lag systems keep the turbo spinning (boosting) the whole time. This reduces or completely eliminates turbo-lag. It does use a lot more gas, but it sounds cool and means that all the cars power is available all of the time. However stock turbos tend to break due to the increased pressure it's put under. Hope that answered your question
mate your a bloody idiot, telling me which car i own?? have del sol and Evo IV + 2 pajeros + civic, feel small yet? get real mate get a girlfriend lmfao!!
The purpose of antilag is to maintain turbo rpm and hence boost pressure (The same purpose as a BOV). This is acheived by running excess fuel into the cylinders and when the unburnt fuel hits the hot turbo manifold it ignites and causes a small backfire. The pressure from this backfire keeps the spinning and has the added after effect of making lots of noise and letting lots of unburnt fuel into the exhaust system and hence out of the tail pipe as a flame.
wait so if it allows excess fuel that means the pistons compress more air fuel mixtures rights? so if it compress more fuel wouldnt that burn the shit out of your car's engine or the turbo charger or something? somethings gotta overheat in this
Actually the cylinders would be a lot colder because the more fuel in the mixture generally the colder it will be, this isn't necessarily good for power though as the rate of ignition is a lot slower and less efficient. Saying all that, yes your turbo gets absolutly rooted. I probably gives it a 100th of its usual life expectancy
If you dipped a finger in petrol and held it up in the wind you find it quite cold don't you. In the cylinder it's the same excess fuel that is unburnt will have a cooling effect. In relation if you inject a very small amount of hot fuel with lots of air, it will be ignited at a much faster rate. Too fast in fact and you get whats called detonation, where the fuel doesn't burn at a progressive enough rate to push the piston but merely slap it
so thats y its called misfire? because if your engine misfire thats not good for it in any other car but i guess it does work with an als system. well it makes sense now thanks. i do know alot but this als system confuses me.
Ochenklasna, what you just explained is just a car running rich. thats isnt anti lag. anti lag is a system that puts fuel into the turbo and ignites it so that the turbo keeps spinning it. im not all that correct but its pretty much something more in the lines of what i said than what u said
what u said is just basically running rich and losing hp but yet engine will be colder
actually ur right.. the exhaust valve opens for abit during the compression stroke, so some feul goes through the turbo on the exhaust side. This keeps the turbo spinning, but when the spark plug ignites the feul, the fire spreads out into the exhaust (because theres feul in the exhause now) and that makes the fire that comes out of the tail pipe.
wait, so some unburned fuel goes out through the exhaust valve(during compression stroke) and INTO the turbo, letting it spin correct? but where does the unburned fuel go after that? i'm kinda confusde with the wastegate stuff, does that direct the unburned fuel away?
The compression stroke happens but the exhaust valve is open for a bit, so unburned feul and air goes to the exhaust to keep turbo spinning on low rpms. the spark plug normally ignites bfore the end of compression stroke (Bfore the piston reaches the top) so the feul and air that escaped in the exhaust is ignited because the exhaust valve is still open. That makes the fire come out of the exhaust. Wastegate has nothing to do with ALS. if u want, just give me ur msn, cant do well on youtube.
misfiring antilag system is set and activated on accelerator lift-off. The fuel injectors are programmed to over-spray fuel and the timing is retarded by about usually 40-60 degrees, while the exhaust valves are still open, The bang bang sound is the fuel igniting in the exhaust manifold

Some people are dumb as shit! Da fuck are they going to call it 'Anti-lag' if all it does is just "shoots out fire/flames"? Damn..go back out there and try again.
the nobs who think it just shoots fire know jack shit, the flames pop cause the turbo continues to wind round wen u steady off the gas which give u boost straight away without having to wait for the turbo to wind back up. faster yes, good for mr turbo? no.
Umm i can see this causing fights, as i was parked behind this guy in my car & he did that at the traffic lights surely it would burn my bumper?? My billy bat would be coming out without a doubt!
not really anti lag actually lets the turbocharger keep spinning at the same time the exhaust valve opens this eliminates the turbo lag "hence the name antilag" wich in turn provides faster acceleration the fire is just a after effect
its not the same technology as a real WRC system. a WRC car has fuel lines routed directly into the exhaust manifold. the ones used on street cars simply pulls timing far enough so the fuel goes through the combustion chamber and ignites in the manifold. its also very bad for the turbo in the long run.
At least somebody knows what they're talkin about on here. The amount of comments ive seen where people havn't got a clue what anti-lag even is, let alone how it works is shocking!! And you are bang on about turbo damage. anti-lag is not healthy for turbos full stop let alone over a long period. The flames actually burn the vanes on the spool away to nothing.

The wastegate doesnt direct it away, the unburned feul goes out the exhaust as fire cause its ignited..

you need a gems ecu or autronics ecu with anti lag , not every ecu will run it , full decat ur evo manifold and boost controller it will pop and bang
RubberduckyO07 5 years ago
Dudes ...It's called a MoTec!...it will allow you to set up and run a proper antilag for the turbo.
