Tradition? As far as I understand, Catholicism is the major christian group and anything you do goes through proper channel at the Vatican, even bible revisions. Hell, the bibles you guys use have been largely edited by the catholic church since 200 ad. If you already let them edit the bible, why not recognize them as proper authority.

I spent some of my childhood in the Philippines. I remember this tradition. It's a form of penitent. They are only on the cross for a few minutes and quickly taken down and rushed to the hospital.

people do this kind of stuff everyday everywhere.Remember that each time you smoke or use drugs you are doing damage to your body.I've seen many people that weigh as much as a small car, and if you ask me,I think they are making themselves suffer more than these people by being so fat.I pity those people who keep abusing themselves just to end up dead or dying.These people who nail themselves to the cross maybe hurting themselves but they come out of this experience a stronger person...

I spent some of my childhood in the Philippines. I remember this tradition. It's a form of penitent. They are only on the cross for a few minutes and quickly taken down and rushed to the hospital.
FACT: The nails that are used are sterile. It was soaked in alcohol or sterile liquid (Inside a sterile jar).

FYI, We Filipino's or most of us are Catholics, this is one of our tradition during lenten season, for some, this is their way thanking Christ or mostly to ask forgiveness for the sins they have done throughout the year."Bakit ganito ang mga Pilipino?" kasi gusto nilang ipakita sa lahat lalung lalo na sa Panginoon ang pagsisisi nila sa mga kasalanan hindi lang ng kanilang mga sarili kundi pati na rin ang mga nagkasala sa kanila.

easter eggs doesn't even correspond to easter, Christ or His final days on earth. We filipinos celebrate what Jesus did for humanity to save us. This is our way, for westerners, easter is just a holiday to sit on the couch and watch TV. Christian or Atheist, it is a tremendous feat to remember the most famous man or living God in recorded history. This man has been doing this for 7 years, just to show the capacity of the human mind and body.

this people believe that by doing this, they get rid of their sin, and some do it as a devotion because some miracle happen to them like being cured of incurable disease. this practice is not condoned by the church and only handful of people do this in a small community in central philippines which become an attraction to tourist during holy week.
