@PhiberOptik001 It was more like yearly (on average) that he replaced them, but if there was any harassment on Dave's part, I'd have to ask the Sugar ladies. Anyway, I think other factors were at play, including some gals tiring of the hectic schedule that being on the road entails, or (in Sue Powell's case) wanting solo careers, or getting married & starting families.
i think that they have now mess country music today what they call country music i call rejected rolland rock bring back the good ole country music of yester year
Dave & Sugar!! Their voices blend like no one I have ever heard. In my view they are truely classic country. If I remember correctly there were actually 4 women that took on the roles of "Sugar". 1977 I was 11 years old but I remember their songs like it was yesterday. Excellent Post!!
Thanks very much for posting this. I was 11 years old when this song was on radio. Always knew I was Gay since Day 1, but when I saw Dave on Pop Goes the Country, hell, it was confirmed. Great music, lyrics, etc. Glad I saved my allowance to buy the albums back then. What a harmony of voices. Thanks again. Oh, for the 70s, tight pants and a crotch out of this world on the album cover.
i went to a concert with dave and sugar and they was great we even got to talk to them it was the first time i heared them sing why dont we dont we get to them preform more often
This song rode my back (as I mentioned in an earlier post) when it's story seemed way too much like mine. It still gives me that gut-shot feeling of knowing better days may be coming, but they are a long way off. Thanks again for putting this one up.
This song has been recorded by several others including Waylon and now by Jamey Johnson, but I think this is the best version. When the Second Sugar girl chimes in after the second verse "When he reaches out to touch me" I think that is the most haunting country music lyric. Her voice is incredible
This song was my anthem back in '77 when Miss Roberts ran off and married a Geologist and left me holding a shovel full of mud. Thanks for posting it.
Thank you for posting this song. I saw Dave and Sugar opening for Charlie Pride at the Cheyenne Frontier Days a few decades ago. This really is great!
What a douchebag that Dave dude is....bet he hit on the sugars so often he had to replace them almost monthly.

Who can help me?
I want the correct lyrics of this song. And almost on all lyrics sites there is written:
"And when he reaches out to touch me with a face turned to the wall"
But they sing something else: "And when he reaches out to touch me......." and what's next?
Thanks in advance!

I believe she sings will my face turn toward the wall

Hi William,
after listening the song for about a hundred times again I think you're right.
I will note this down and we're going to study this song! Many, many thanks!
