  • Subbed thank you so much

  • I'm horrible at that guessing intervals ! :'(

  • Slayer starts lots of riff with a tritone, not piano music tough, but still raining blood if fairly well known and that famous riff has a tritone.

  • Thank you so much ~

I'm learning more & more after watching each lesson.

  • minor 2nds JAWS

  • songs that begin with a tri-tone:

    Black Sabbath by Black Sabbath

    Purple Haze by Jimi Hendrix

Don't Stop Til You Get Enough by Michael Jackson

  • You can use "Theres a Place For Us" from West Side Story for Minor 7. (;

  • you know after 16 videos i thought you would have at least fixed the audio issue

  • Tritone, Rush 'YYZ', Can work just needs Context, Phrasing, thanks for you video

  • omg i suck so much, i only got the minor and major second and perfect fifth, all other were wrong.

  • @StormBringer44 Keep at it. Ear training gets better with practice, just like learning a language.

  • I taught myself to sight read from my own method that's very similar to this, but my teacher looked @ me like i was crazy when i told her bout this method...

  • You really should be recommending Earmaster, it's a fantastic piece of software for ear training.

  • I tried to concentrate but I was moved to tears by your rendition of the Canadian national anthem and couldn't go any further. Well I was in tears at any rate... :-)

Excellent - thanks for taking the time to put this together.

  • Thank you for the list in the information section below. I need to work on my relative pitch and needed a list of songs to identify the relative pitches and I got all I needed in one place!

  • I can't believe I got the C - A# right.

Way to know the Final Fantasy main theme, haha.

  • crappy sound

  • for the major second you can try happy birthday as well

or that lord of the rings war theme

    DAAAAA-DA-DA-DAAAAAAAAAA-DAA-DAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

i think the main theme in the return of the king.

  • the canadian anthem is really good lol i like it

  • I'M FROM CANADA :D

  • Major 2nd => Happy birthday to you

Major 3rd => Eu sei que vou te amar - Antonio Carlos Jobim

  • ur turned up and i can barely hear you, information = lost

  • Purple Haze... !!! Tritones.....

  • tritone = SIMPSONS

  • Hey I saw your video of you playing Chopin's Minute Waltz. You play amazing

  • man you take so long to say something get to the fricken point

  • @gr1334 no one forced you to watch. The guy does a great job and he's giving his time on here teaching for free.

  • Well, this makes it easy enough to know how intervals sound when the two notes are played separately, but I still have trouble distinguishing them when played harmonically, which is what I have to do to pass my music theory class... Thanks for the video though, it was pretty helpful. :)

  • how can you make a minor 2nd starting on E?

  • @bloodninja72 one semitone from the original means minor second in all case.

  • @invertedchords thanks you

  • Augmented 4th (Tritone) is like at the starting of the song from "The Simpsons" :P

  • Tri-Tone = The Simpsons opening "The-Simp..."

  • weird

  • be a little louder and hair not cool

  • @shawnalger What are you? A director?

  • What a hair!

  • This might have been useful the first time we sat our O'Level Richard.

Oh no, that's right. We had Miss Dremza. What more could we ask???

  • For anyone who is interested GNU Solfege is a really good and free ear training program

  • has Taichi Yagami from digimon hair! :D

  • has Taichi Yagami from digimon hair! :D

  • Nice ace ventura hair buddy!

  • poor tri-tone, nobody likes him...

  • woo I got them all right!! boosted my confidence for my audition next week. Phew haha

  • CANADIAN PRIDE :D

  • Hey Andrew, this lesson is very good!! I was wondering if there are such things as CD collections playing just intervals like you did to master the perfect pitch. Im really looking for it rite now.

  • i think of amazing grace for the C F interval and for some reason C Ab interval reminds me of the charlie brown song lol

  • Oh and make sure it's the dungeon song not the Entrance.

    (7th Search result)

  • I knew that Tritone sounded familiar!

In Zelda Twilight Princess The beggining of The Temple of Time dungeon song!

Video: "Zelda: Twilight Princess Music - Temple of Time"

  • hey man this was a really helpful video thanks!

  • lmao. anyone else fail the test? im learnin tho. keep it up lypur. ur madd talented.

  • Oh my god, I will wipe out entire humanity to get that yamaha of yours.

  • Had to turn it off after 4 minutes. Was it really relevent to this lesson to sing the entire Canadian Anthem?

  • Major 3rd - seven nation army...

  • i cant hear a word you are saying

  • very fun lesson, i thoroughly enjoyed this one. ON TO THE NEXT! :P

  • Thanks for this very good lesson! I'm tring to learn to reconize the intervals when both notes are played at the same time. It's going pretty good but I have huge problems with recognizing perfect 4th and perfect 5th when they're played together. Do you have any tips on that?

  • Tri-tones....Norfolk State University Spartan Legion are famous for tri-tones. In their famous song "Behold" tri-tones are used throughout the piece.

  • Did you mean "Naive Melody" by The Talking Heads for the minor 6th?

  • nice hair...lol

  • The simpsons or starts with a tri tone by the way

  • i love ur vids!!! they help alot!

  • can you play "Chariots Of Fire" please?

  • you are a sincere person and your videos are so helpful. God bless you

  • I recognize upward moving intervals quite easier, however have a lot of problems with downward intervals - any tips?

  • Thanks Andrew, lesson 16# and 24 more to go :P, sucks school is starting in 5 days, but i'll make time to finish the lessons even after school starts ;P

  • Excellent videos....Thank-you Andrew...your personable style make your videos even better.

  • Tritone is "Maria" from "West Side Story"

  • @paravelove Also, tritone is one of the most common intervals in Metal music. Take, for instance, the song Sympton of the Universe, from Black Sabbath, or As I Am, from Dream Theater, or the classic Black Sabbath's Black Sabbath.

  • Whoops, lol... just saw it to the right...

  • You were looking for a song that starts with a minor 7th? What about the theme to the original Star Trek from the 1970s?

  • ooit gehoord van een kapper??

  • ive gotten somethin out of all these lessons so far even if it was a small lesson its worth the time!!!!

  • hahah u actually sang the whole canada anthem...well...most of it LOL

  • interval training is the best thing i ever did for my music! I'm glad you are aware of this and are trying to teach people it.

  • OMG! Okay I have a thing called firing squad tmmrw and I have to know how to sing my intervals and this really helped, I was about to give up but I found this video and helped soo much. :) THNKS Hope to see more vids

  • If you are familiar with west side story, you can think of the song Maria when you hear a tritone. That always helps me.

  • geniues u used songs to help remember

  • for the major third i like to use "for he's a jolly good fellow". the "for he" makes the major third.

  • anybody got another song for minor 6th? or minor 7th

  • "If your not getting them right, I'm actually not surprised." XD that sounded so cruel lol

  • major 5th also reminded me of Charlie Brown theme when i heard it and i was right it was. I guess you might be surprised what you might find up in the ol' attic. ;)

  • just fyi: Perfect 5th. No such thing as major fifth.

  • best teacher ever :>

  • Great Video. Very informative. The interactive exam was a great add on.

  • Great videos man. thanks a lot.

I think I did pretty good with the interactive test there... got 4 or 5 wrong.. and just by a half tone..

well anyways I'm gonna keep watching.

    greetings from Iceland..

  • Does anyone have or are they developing "perfect pitch?" I have been developing mine and was wondering if anyone was using and specific methods that work for them.

  • this went WOOOOSH over my head. im gonna study some earlier ones i dont think im here yet...

  • Tritone - Simpsons

5th twinkle is better than star wars in vid info

    perfect 4th - Amazing Grace

(u tried to use a tritone for that 4-1 plagal sound which is likely to confuse people)

when talking about intervals by ear try and avoid "augmented" and "diminished" unless written

  • Your voice is splendid!!! HAHAHA!!!!

    Very good lesson, Andrew! Thanks!

  • Wow, thank you very much. This was very helpful. ^.^

  • isn't tri-tone augmented 4th?

  • whats the difference between a major interval and a minor interval

  • A minor is a half step lower then a major.

  • major sounds happy

    minor sounds sad

major is usually a half step above a minor

  • the main like NIN's song Something I can Never have is mostly all fifths with a minor 6th.

Cool I know some stuff now! :D

  • for the minor 6th, you can use james blunt's "you're beautiful"'s first 2 intro notes

  • nice catch.

  • Hahahaha! I love your opinion on tri-tones.

  • Thank You very much for best lesson, Dear Sir.

  • what a beatiful piano you've got

  • what hair products do you use?

  • lol, ur funnie!

  • Wow, thanks for this. I have this little tune, or should I say part of a song, that I really like, but I could never find sheet music for it anywhere. I'm gonna practice this until I can learn how to play it!

    You are an amazing teacher!

  • LOL The national anthem goes "Oh Canada or whatever".

  • Twinkel Twinkel little star I'm not really getting far

  • lol

  • hahahaah

  • that was a good lesson but can this really teach you the perfect pitch. i've heard that this trains the relative pitch and the perfect pitch is something that very few blessed (or cursed) people can have

  • Thanks!

  • Minor 2nd- Jaws Major 2nd- Happy Birthday Minor 3rd- O Holy Night Major 3rd- Oh When the Saints Perfect 4th- Wedding March Tri-tone- Maria (from West Side Story) or The Jetsons Theme Song Perfect 5th- Star Wars Minor 6th- Love Story or Close every Door to Me (from Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat) Major 6th- My Bonnie Lies over the Ocean Minor 7th- Star Trek Major 7th- Psycho Theme Perfect Octave- Some where over the Rainbow Hope this will help with labeling intervals to a song!!:)
  • Thanks! I'll copy that and put it in the discription!

  • thanks for all your hard work Andrew

  • Fantastic voice :D

  • Instrumental song by Rush "YYZ" starts with a tritone. BTW It's a Canadian group;)

  • thanks again. excellent job

  • what an awesome technique, ive been trying to figure this out for a while, many thanx!

  • SOMEONE doesn't like tritones! thankyou for this.

  • thanx andrew your exercises are very helpful

  • Thank you very much! I am in theory and no one has been able to explain this so that I am able to hear them. The only thing that may be a bit better would be if you played them together in harmonizing them.

Also I have always wondered what the actual words to O Canada were, so thank you so much for singing it :D

  • Major 2nd = Frere Jacques

    Tritone = The Simpsons

Minor 6th = the entertainer (I'm still looking for a better song though, I don't know love story, will research)

Minor 7th = Star Trek the original series

Major 7th = I had a teacher invent a song because he couldn't think of a real song.

  • very helpful ;)

  • Very Good lesson !! Keep Up to the Great Job :D

    Cheers
