Did it simply stop or blend with the secrecy of the priest? If you are Gay and you know you can work with other possibly gay men and still be respected in society, would that not be a good job? Keep in mind the Romans also engage in sex with young boys. This is also a characteristic of many priest.

@JayElleist the reason why i showed the church is because it is the start of the christian religion. Notice i said the church so i am thinking before the splits. As Christianity split up the ideas of homosexuality also seem to split and follow. Ideas are like cancer once they into your mind it will be hard to get rid of it. You can hid, slow it down, but it always has a great chance of coming back.
