Roboten har en 200 kilos stridsladdning och det räcker inte för att sänka ett hangarfartyg. Jämför med C-802 som träffade en Israelisk korvette, dess 165 kilos stridsladdning lyckades inte sänka INS Hanit.

Why the 57 mm? first of all it uses programmable shots. It also auto loads in 4 different racks, and blast 200 rounds a minute. its one hell of a gun as it also supports time based firing -i:e all hit at the same time with different angling. ever considered what 200 pcs 57 mm armour penetrating shells exploding with 1 metre apart would do to a hull? the 57mm MarkIII is way more effective than most other guns. As the sea moves, and this ship do 35+ knots , its more than enough.

*kanonen utgör det enda luftvärnet, kan inte skydda sig mot ett bombplan som passerar på mycket hög höjd och använder vapen som slår ovanifrån, exv styrd bomb

*Saknar helt luftvärn akteröver; om ett snabbt mål uppkommer så måste fartyget hinna vända en bit innan det kan skjuta ner en robot.

*Vattenjet eller inte, skulle behövt någon form av aktivt motmedel mot torpeder. Moderna torpeder har inte för vana att missa även svåra mål.

Fartyget är gjort för att användas i Skärgården och nära kustremsan, ett fartyg gjort att ligga lura i vassen för att sedan döda sin motståndare med en snabb attack.. du nämner saker som ett fartyg kan råka hamna i på öppet hav.. man ser inte detta fartyg om den inte vill bli sedd.

Våra ubåtar är däremot avsedda för att möta motståndet ute till havs, samma sak där... den ligger gömd och lyssnar för att sedan hugga när det är dags. Du kanske ser den röda tråden i vårat försvar!

@baltic1284 You might notice the word "frigate" in your comment. A frigate is larger and often more heavily armed than a corvette. Does the frigate you talk about have stealth? The Visby corvette is a stealth corvette with a crew of around 44 men where most frigates i've heard about have a crew of a few hundred.

-1100-1200t of weight;

-same crew number;

-almost the same "island" with a bigger heli hangar;

-more space for: two helicopters-transport and attack/support (Bell UH-1Y Huey and Bell AZ-10 Cobra with a common 84% components including engines/cockpit avionics and the 4 bladed main rotor folding system!), bigger landing deck, internal missle pods on the port and starboard bows!

Its a nice class corvette, and i'm sure it can perform its duty, yet !! I don't think it can hide from a deployed UAV, such as the new " Firescout " of the USN, and other assets for very long. Harpoon missiles, (SSM) have made complete fools of hostile vessels in the past !!!! just an observations. huh.... it well need some form of Anti-air defense, seriously !!!

These corvettes are a fiasco. They were ordered in 1995 and sea launched in 2000-20XX. Two are today in service. The only armament is practically one Bofors canon. They havent figured out how to be able to install the anti-ship missiles. They will skip anti aircraft missiles.Yes they look very space age coolbut will they perform in reality?

The Swedes have not commissioned the corvettes yet, they will in late of this year. They are planning to fit Umkhonto AA missiles RBS 70 for AS. The Bofors 60mm (if I'm not mistaken) is its main gun.

And the stealth? It did worked.

The Umkhonto AA missiles are not planned to be installed/bought because of budget cuts. The RBS 15 missiles are planned to be installed but the engineers dont know how to do that at the moment, how to fit it inside hull and how to build smoke channels to direct the smoke away from the launching missiles. Yes, two ships will enter service later this year without AA-missiles or the RBS 15-misseles. It will take years before they will be fully operational, If they ever will

Sir, i dont know where ur from, but one of those ships can kill a battleship before the battleship could retaliate. The only way to sink one of these is by visual, and with supreme numbers, It may not carry big guns, but it carries enough to sink a battleship.. 1 v 1 Visby wins end of story

these are much more powerful radars, and the visby has a higher rcs than a f22 of course.

look for meko cls. its a 2500 t ship, thyssenkrupp made a contract with visby designers. they have some similar stealth features, but drive over 40 knots, have 2 helos, can accomodate a towed sonar, have vls... google for it. hopefully german navy gets them.

I had a bit of an argument with some American guy about sinking Iowa-class battleships. While I think it's possible to sink one with the right tools (saturation attack with supersonic anti-ship missiles), I don't think it's likely with only eight subsonic surface-to-surface missiles with a relatively small 250 kg pre-fragmented HE warheads. Those big ones are just too well protected.

You can detect these ships with other instruments than only by visually contact. In the world of aviation a stealth plane is an aircraft that is difficult to detect on radar, but not impossible. I would imagine that it is the same thing with ships. Active sonar could otherwise probably detect it quite easily.

How would Visby do against a battleship? Platforms only take u so far - armament, defense and fire control systems play a bigger role in determining victor. An ocean-going tugboat outfitted with superior armaments and electronics could sink a flat top . . . . or a Corvette. No such thing as "stealth" with ships only smaller signatures - still detectable. So a modernized b'ship "could" win.

There are about 0 countries in the world that still use big gun battleships. Face it; the battleship as a concept died when the Yamato was sunk in 1945. Yes, the US used the Iowa class as recently as the first gulf war, but only in a coastal bombardment role. Ship-to-ship it wouldn't stand a chance.

Well no one in their right might would consider using the 57mm as anything other than a CIWS in a desperate attempt to stop an incoming missile or to see off an air attack.However the purpose of the Visby lies in effectively deploying its anti-ship missiles by means of stealth, speed and surprise with a secondary purpose of hunting disal powered submarines in the shallows or deploying its mines. In most combat situations the gun would only be used if the Visby fails and is discovered.
