BIG fucking difference in a octagon and a ring u Moron. The size, using the cage to get up on feet or push your opponent, n depending on the style of a fighter it helps. Ex: a man has KO power then his opponent has a better chance to wear him out in the octagon so he can move.THE BIGGEST REASON: THE RULES ARE COMPLETELY DIFFERENT IN A RING AND THE OCTAGON.Look at past fights who fight same fighter who fights outcome is dif in a ring n an octagon
i get sick of people saying that there's a big difference between the cage and a ring. ya the ropes do give and the cage doesn't but the octagon's way bigger and not to mention the cage can't be used as easily as you think and sometimes it can help somebody get out of a corner
Cage VS Ring argument is valid to some extent. Couture said it's very different, obviously Chuck doesn't agree with him but that's his opinion.
I think the main difference is "the knees to downed opponent" rule. That changes everything for wrestlers like Matt Hughes/Sean Sherk. In the UFC, wrestlers do not get "penalized" for failing takedown after takedown, 'cause they don't have to worry about getting kneed in the face.(which can potentially turn into a KO)
Really looking forward to his fight with shogun, a young contender vs. the veteran. It will most likely be in England since chuck has not fought their before and england will wanna seem him fight before he retires.
Its funny how the pride-ufc war is still going on, I don't think it will ever end. Both organizations had/have great fighters. The transition to the ring-cage does play a part, but in the case of cro cop,Ithink it has to do with the fact he doesn't have the desire to fight anymore.
Ring IS different than cage, especially the Pride ring, because it's in Japan and there are different rules and different athletic comission. There's knees to the head (except on all fours), stomps and kicks to the head. And I don't agree with him saying that the Pride guys are losing the "UFC" guys, that's bullshit. Chuck lost in the first round to Quinton. He's from Pride, what does that say? Just because they're UFC guys or Pride guys doesn't change the probability of a winner or loser.
The cage/ring argument is a weak one to say the least. The rules argument is also a weak one, especially given that these guys have been fighting in various organizations throughout their careers and thus are used to adjusting to slight variations in rules. The only argument that I buy is "home field" advantage. When the crowd is behind you in Japan and not in the USA, there could be issues. However, even up and coming fighters from America experience tough crowds but great fighters rise above.
I somewhat disagree with that. Surroundings influence a fighter whether they are aware of it or not. Some of the ufc guys who fought in pride had alot of problems in their first fights because they did not have the cage to use for advantage. The same thing is happening to some of the pride fighters. Like you said, there are those will rise above it, and those who won't. But you cannot deny it plays a factor, it just wasn't the factor for crocop for it had more to do with lack of motivation.
Wandy did fight some mediocre fighters, but he also fought and beat great fighters like sakuraba (arguably japan's greatest mma fighter) 3 times in dominating fasion, guy metzger, jackson twice, henderson in their first fight, arona, yoshida twice, kondo, and had a draw with cro cop int heir first which could of went to wandy.
Babalu and Horn are cans? Ha. Funny stuff. You must be a Pride fan still trying to come up with a way to believe Shogun and Wanderlei are so much better than Chuck.. guess what, they aren't.
babalu is still good, but his career is on the downslope after being cut from the UFC, its gonna be tough to keep his name going in the lower ranking shows.
fuck that excuse because forrest shoulder was fucked up, he had to go under the knife to get it fixed and yet there's close to no mention of it, shogun flat out gave excuses...he lost, if your not prepared well enough or you cant train like you could be, then why fight or accept a fight...pull out or post pone it, i understand it was his debut and didnt want to miss the chance but still, he lost and it is noone elses fault...but forrests
shogun never made excuses about the cage being the reason he lost, shogun came into that fight with a busted knee, and only three weeks of agility training and cardio. liddell lost to jardine and rampage twice and as i remember shogun broke rampage's ribs
it may not be an excuse, but if youve actually trained,it def plays a role but its not an excuse, but it is a matter of of being able to swallow your pride and adapt
Please list all of the former PRIDE fighters who have lost in the UFC and blamed it on the cage, with references, please. Stop making stuff up.
A number of UFC fighters however, including Forrest and Sylvia and commentators like Bas Rutten had mentioned the transition from ring to cage as a FACTOR in a handful of fighter's poor performance. There's nothing comical about it-- but I'm sure you know more than they do. :)
So far only CC said something about the cage. And it is a huge difference combined with the different rules. Some adjust easy, some need time and some never adjust. That's top sport where the level is close. Besides that Pride fighters are not doing any wore than UFC fighters. Chuck who was invincible lost twice, Tim lost to a retired Couture who has been KO-ed by a mw before that match, GSP lost to the underdog, Sherk caught, etc. So far one Pride champ lost (Hendo) vs a former Pride fighter.

Forest only beat Shogun cause Shogun's knee was jacked up.
MoneyIsSilver 1 year ago
@MoneyIsSilver Is that gonna be the excuse against Jones too?
pearcemark2 10 months ago
@pearcemark2 Do you honestly think Forrest is as good of a fighter as either Jones or Rua?
MoneyIsSilver 10 months ago
@MoneyIsSilver I don't think Forrest would have a razor close fight with a 68 year old Mark Coleman.
pearcemark2 10 months ago
@pearcemark2 Coleman's not that old, and I think he would give Forrest a tough time.

a-fucking-men. good insight. i did always prefer pride though.
trickster0zero 3 years ago
I prefer Pride rules but I like the octagon as a fighting platform over a traditional ring.
KingCrimson1982 3 years ago
@shakir2 agreed the cage is far more reliable for a wrestler than in a ring plus somebody could get tied up in the ropes and they stand you up

briiiggsy 3 years ago
couture said he used the spring agaisnt the fense to lift his oponnet to take him down
try to do that on ropes
besides, how about axe kicks and stomps and knees on the ground
without that as a striker youre screwed but as a jui jitsu guy submissions are less risky
wathefuckisupwitthat 3 years ago
And....the cage doesn't benefit Randy?? in a ring against Fedor he's gonna get tooled, in a cage he'd have half a chance, come on chuck.

Chuck vs Machida rather than tito would be good, but his coach doesnt want Machida.
