@DOLRED Also never try to force the saw back on cut line if you happen to get off, instead back up with the saw and try to aim to realign the cut. this is the most common mistake that I see while teaching a shop class at a high school. If you have not already watched the work safe video "Circular Saw Kickback" watch it it contains a great illustration as to what happens when cutting wood.
Thank you for this - I was about to use a circular saw I just bought. I have used one before but not much. If you had to add one more thing, I would suggest adding how to cut 4 x 4. I know the approach is to make several passes but if there were any tips or "gotchas" it would be nice to know. The manual doesn't cover that but it does say align the "good" side of a sheet you are working on on the bottom - I would not have thought of that.
My vote as well as a fantastic video. i will be getting a circular saw soon. have won one on ebay . this video shows us beginners how to properly use and get the most of these tools without having to ask someone.of course we always need to check any directions or safety warnings prior to use . excellent video and thanks for the upload
I'm looking at getting my husband a new saw for his birthday, any advice on what one? I heard of a new one coming out called the straight flush, do you know who makes it?
Since this video is about basics, here's a question for all reading this. How do you transport your circular saw blades?
I have about a half dozen 6 1/2" (open and unprotected) blades I'd like to tote occasionally (don't know what job might entail), but have not found a bag, case, or other means to secure them or me from damage. What's the solution?
This 2:42 vid coulda saved me from spewing many colorful metaphors had I'd watched it BEFORE I started making a toychest/window seat for my daughter/wife today...and yesterday.
Folks, it took me cross-cutting aluminum soffit to realize HOW IMPORTANT hearing and eye protection are. Wear eye protection. Wear ear-muffs. And gloves if you need to grasp the piece firmly (under any circumstances).
The other thing is, the finish cut will be much cleaner if the blade is extended far beyond the workpiece.... this is especially true on tablesaws, a low blade setting will result in a rougher cut and increased incidence of kickback...
Thank you!! I have looked and looked for some basic information on how to use a circular saw and this was perfect. More please!!! I am female and was not allowed to take shop classes in school. I am so tired of asking guys to cut boards for me. I own the tools but have no idea how to use them. The books I find use terms that I do not understand and so I am lost before I ever start. For example - I looked for 2 hours to find out what a Kerf was. Great Vid!!!
Great presentation...very well done!!! I have learned some much needed information about the circular saw and speed square. Thanks!!!//Chuck

good video but the part where he adjusts the saw while keeping his finger in the trigger guard area is just bad practice.

When u were ripping shouldn't the wood you're cutting be clamped in place so you would be using both hands on the saw?

So which is better BOSCH or the Makita. Would love to know. Don't care about the ridgid (don't like the color anyway)

i just noticed now that a circular saw is pretty much a mitre saw and a table saw all in one little mighty machine
rips and crosscuts, even angle cuts
