  • Great presentation...very well done!!! I have learned some much needed information about the circular saw and speed square. Thanks!!!//Chuck

  • thanks pal learned some decent stuff

  • Thank you...this was essential information for me!

  • Never thought to use my speed square like that. Thanks!

  • Thanks so much! The perfect video - just what I needed to know! Cheers! Nick

  • good video but the part where he adjusts the saw while keeping his finger in the trigger guard area is just bad practice.

  • I'm female, too, and just bought my own circular saw. Have seen one used plenty of times, but never used one myself. This video was excellent!

  • Super Helpful!!

  • Excellent video with detailed demonstration! Thx!

  • Very good thanks--never really knew how to avoid binding (adjusting depth).

  • @DOLRED Also never try to force the saw back on cut line if you happen to get off, instead back up with the saw and try to aim to realign the cut. this is the most common mistake that I see while teaching a shop class at a high school. If you have not already watched the work safe video "Circular Saw Kickback" watch it it contains a great illustration as to what happens when cutting wood.

  • Thanks - helpful

  • When u were ripping shouldn't the wood you're cutting be clamped in place so you would be using both hands on the saw?

  • So which is better BOSCH or the Makita. Would love to know. Don't care about the ridgid (don't like the color anyway)

  • my saw kept binding up and I didnt know why, until now. my blade was too far below the wood. thanks

  • I've got a question, which way does the circual saw spin?

  • thanx man! very helpful video

  • Thank you for this - I was about to use a circular saw I just bought. I have used one before but not much. If you had to add one more thing, I would suggest adding how to cut 4 x 4. I know the approach is to make several passes but if there were any tips or "gotchas" it would be nice to know. The manual doesn't cover that but it does say align the "good" side of a sheet you are working on on the bottom - I would not have thought of that.

  • thank you, thank you. You've made it so easy a blonde wife can do it. ')

  • My vote as well as a fantastic video. i will be getting a circular saw soon. have won one on ebay . this video shows us beginners how to properly use and get the most of these tools without having to ask someone.of course we always need to check any directions or safety warnings prior to use . excellent video and thanks for the upload

  • What if you have to cut a triangle, and you need to cut non-perpendicular to the edge of the board???

  • great. many thanks

  • thanks a lot, great video

  • I wasnt sure how to make a pocket cut.. thanks for the tip!

  • Its Russell Crow !, I guess he turned in his short sword with a circular saw :D

  • Great video, thank you

  • Thanks for the vid!

  • very good video,

  • I'm looking at getting my husband a new saw for his birthday, any advice on what one? I heard of a new one coming out called the straight flush, do you know who makes it?

  • Lots of useful basic stuff in here...well demonstrated Never seen a speed square in the uk tho. It looks really useful.

  • Since this video is about basics, here's a question for all reading this. How do you transport your circular saw blades?

I have about a half dozen 6 1/2" (open and unprotected) blades I'd like to tote occasionally (don't know what job might entail), but have not found a bag, case, or other means to secure them or me from damage. What's the solution?

  • good one.

  • Great video straight to the point and very informative, I now know exactly what I'm doing with a circular saw!

  • Thank you for the video , very helpful.

  • Very nice! Thanks for the upload, great simple info for newbies whom want to know how to use a circular saw.

  • Thanks ... going to go try my saw for the first time now.

  • fantastic video.

  • Good vid!

  • wow this was super helpful

i just noticed now that a circular saw is pretty much a mitre saw and a table saw all in one little mighty machine

rips and crosscuts, even angle cuts

  • love to show the world how it really is on a framing crew.what gets down without a word about work being said.its like a party without the alchohol

  • Fantastic real life not over hyped video. Straight to the point and effective.

Great stuff. Happy to have watched and learned a new trick.

  • Yeah it was very good!

  • Good stuff man thanks

  • Le agradesco demaciado la información, aun que no entiendo muy bien el ingles, me a parecido muy explicito el video. Thank you very much.

  • 5 stars

  • This 2:42 vid coulda saved me from spewing many colorful metaphors had I'd watched it BEFORE I started making a toychest/window seat for my daughter/wife today...and yesterday.

  • Folks, it took me cross-cutting aluminum soffit to realize HOW IMPORTANT hearing and eye protection are. Wear eye protection. Wear ear-muffs. And gloves if you need to grasp the piece firmly (under any circumstances).

  • great video very imformative keep up the good work

  • your great... good voice, good direction, Thanks for your help!

  • OMG! Some great tips there. I could use this. I've been doing it wrong all along. Thanx.

  • thanks great job...

for some reason i never purchased a circular saw

but i may need one to do an attic

  • ooooh, so that is why my saw binds. I thought the adjustment was just for making dado type cuts.

  • The other thing is, the finish cut will be much cleaner if the blade is extended far beyond the workpiece.... this is especially true on tablesaws, a low blade setting will result in a rougher cut and increased incidence of kickback...

  • thank you more video, wonderful tools

  • Thank you!! I have looked and looked for some basic information on how to use a circular saw and this was perfect. More please!!! I am female and was not allowed to take shop classes in school. I am so tired of asking guys to cut boards for me. I own the tools but have no idea how to use them. The books I find use terms that I do not understand and so I am lost before I ever start. For example - I looked for 2 hours to find out what a Kerf was. Great Vid!!!

  • You definitely deserve a 10 for this! And you now have one!

  • keep on it
