  • Classic Spinal Tap malfunctions on the mic!

  • Interesting version of Sex Farm. LOL!

  • your sweet but your just four feet and u still got ur baby teeth!

  • Ugh. Coldplay ads on a Spinal Tap video. Fuck the world.

  • who are the 83 asshats that disliked this?

  • lol the mic would get fucked up :P

  • these guys rock ! very talented

  • Bueller!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • ph, i never get tired of these guys

  • It sounds like they are playing for five people

  • christopher looks like his jamie lee. hey i would have a taste of that yogurt.

  • I think it's easy to mistake Christopher Guest as an asshole, but I think he just feels awkward being in the spotlight as himself. He's said before he doesn't like being funny out of character, since that's not his style. So I think he doesn't enjoy it when people want him to be like "joke, joke, joke". Plus, a lot of his stuff is improv, so when people ask him questions about lines or routines, he doesn't have an answer for them.

  • please crucifie me and let burn my soul on fucking hell but shoot them away

  • Whenever people film such things, I wish they put at least one microphone on the audience to get the applause and shouting. They sound like they're playing in an empty barn.

  • yngwie malmsteen you poor bastard!

  • " I loved me a lass who's hair was long and brown as the finest stew ". you gotta love a lyric like that.

  • theses guys harmonize surprising well together

  • "how many many sound men does it take to unscrew a litebulb, 1,2,1,1,1,2,,2," God i love Michael McKean .... And then when Harry says "wait you wanna hear him" priceless

  • bass isn' unplugged. :(

  • @ManlySlut thats just your opinion

  • @ShareTheSphere Say what?

  • @ManlySlut .. exactly!

  • @ShareTheSphere you aren't making any sense :S

  • @ManlySlut neither are the guitars or microphones......

  • Anyone grew up watching 'Laverne and Shirley' tell the truth. Did you ever think Lenny had this in him? I know he was a Lone Wolf and all but this is wonderful stuff.

  • I've got to ask the question... Are they going to do Stonehenge?

  • Principal who?

  • I wish Christopher Guest didn't hate us all so much. I guess part of being a genius is looking down on everyone else with disdain.

  • @nwajoe He doesn't hate anyone, he just keeps his on and off stage persona seperate. From an interview he did a few years ago: On film, Guest is a hilariously droll comedian. In person he is serious and almost dour.

"People want me to be funny all the time. They think I'm being funny no matter what I say or do and that's not the case.

"I rarely joke unless I'm in front of a camera. It's not what I am in real life. It's what I do for a living."

  • @wynternight777 That is an interesting quote. I don't think it's so much that I expect him to be funny all the time. He just seems to range from disinterested to visibly angry with most interviewers (except Ricky Gervais). Perhaps that comes out of his annoyance with them wanting him to be funny or in character. My impression has been that all three of them are very intelligent and don't suffer fools gladly, but Mr. Guest seems the least tolerant. I think he's brilliant, nonetheless.

  • @nwajoe I can imagine that would be annoying after a time: people insisting you entertain them 24/7. I can understand his point; I do that for a career, off-stage I'm not here to entertain you. He might get the "dance, monkey, dance!" feeling eventually. I think I'd get a little grouchy too. ;)

  • hahaha yes you can hear skinner!

  • i was sort of hoping that they would play a few slow songs

    WORKIN ON A SEX FARM

  • These guys are geniuses.

  • Mumford and sons 2:30 :)

  • nice plugs guys

  • I WENT TO SEE THIS, IT WAS GREAT!!!

  • You can hear the principal Skinner in Harry Shearer's voice during the Celtic Blues

  • these people ROCK

  • welllllllllll there's always something cooking at old joe's place. too funny lol

  • Haha, too true. I love their harmony at the end of that song ... PLAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAACE....

  • they are so good.

  • Fleet Foxes

  • Harry Shearer's voice is beautiful!

  • Mr. Guest looks annoyed at the interviewer.

  • Apparently Christopher Guest is somewhat of an asshole.

  • @blotchy67

Instead of an asshole, I think he's a bit shy and reserved as himself. He seems a lot more comfortable talking through a character than being himself. And Jamie Lee Curtis is a smart and sweet woman: she wouldn't be married to him if he were an asshole.

  • @professor2442 Yeah, seems as though many actors (and actress's) seem more comfortable playing someone else...

  • well the interviewer is an ass... that whole. "wow you are old" he is annoying.

  • What an excellent tour this was!

  • Hell Hole! WOW! Still got it, never lost it.

  • Sex Farm is an acoustic miracle.

  • Funky unplugged "Sex Farm". Nice.

  • how come i cant have 13 min youtube vids ;_;

  • u have to have made ur account before they put the limit on it

  • I would of liked to see this

  • "It's better in a hell-hole." I think that says it all.

  • ladies and gentlemen, principal skinner.

  • Haha I'd love to see people's reactions when they watch this and hear that voice not knowing Harry Shearer plays him.

  • This is in L.A.

  • I think I know who was doing the sound... That Vietnamese sound girl... She's the master of noise not musical at the House Of Blues chain...

  • Hehe. McKean looks like my geometry teacher! xD

  • Nashville Tennessee! Amazing!

  • inspiring

  • Saw them last night at the Beacon....Elvis Costillo made a guest appearence....It was funny as hell

  • Beacon Theater tonight in NY!

  • Saw them last night at the Beacon in NY. Great show! Enjoy!!!

  • Going to the Chicago show. For those who have seen them already, how long was the show? I am imagining it to be kind of short. Thanks

  • omg that show was amazing!.... they were so much better.

  • Saw em in Boston at Wilbur Theatre... amazing. profoundhound is right... Big Bottom jazz rendition was excellent. Harry Shearer is hilarious.

  • Saw the show at the Fox Theater (Foxwoods). The one bass , jazz version of "Big Bottom" was great :-) They rock.....

  • I saw them at the Ryman in Nashville last weekend. Fantastic show. They had Bela Fleck and Delbert McClinton on stage with them for several songs.

  • The promo picture for the Unwigged & Unplugged tour looks impossible. If Christopher guests's hands are folded, who's hands are on Michael M.'s??

  • Saw them in Baltimore and loved them. Great concert guys. Big Bottom was awesome.

  • Just got my tickets for the Chicago concert. I can't wait. Its Tap.

  • I'll see you there. I'm so pumped.

  • I saw them in Baltimore last night the show was an eleven+++++

  • I saw them this past Friday night at the Mahaffey Theater in St. Petersburg. One of the best shows I've ever seen. I have not rocked and laughed so hard (at the same time) in my life!!!!

  • I was at the St. Pete show too. Loved it! They are such good musicians and songwriters, and SO funny.

  • I also saw the Fox show tonight. Completely awesome, they totally killed. Best b-day present I've gotten in a few.....

  • Tonight the Fox in Atlanta. Less than an hour ago I was still in their presence. Friggin' amazing. They are true artists in every aspect.

  • I saw them at the Mahaffey last nite too. Just terrific! If they were there again tonight, I'd go again!

  • Saw them last night in St. Pete. FL

    Great show.

Funny interaction with each other and with the audience.

  • Tonight...Miami Beach...Can't wait!

  • saw them in dallas too! so much fun! we are going to watch a mighty wind this week. loved the show!

  • If you are going to see them, you better be a big fan of A Mighty Wind. That seemed to get as much play as Spinal Tap material.

  • I just saw them in Dallas (Grand Prairie) and my face is still hurting from laughing so hard. These guys were smokin' hot. Harry is an awesome bass player. Way better than I ever thought he was. MIchael and Christopher were up to snuff and their playing was top notch. The three together were amazing. Great show!

  • Saw them last night in Houston. Fantastic show! Such genuinely talented guys.

  • Dang I wish I could be up there to see these guys!

  • Saw them in Oakland.

That was such an awesome show!

my cheeks hurt from laughing so hard!

and they are just great musicians.

  • Saw them in Oakland last night and thought it was a pretty good show!

Yeah there were technical difficulties and who cares?

    This is Spinal Tap!!

It could be apart of the show.

    JB

  • Loved the Seattle show. There were two bad speakers on the stage that were turned off (they were unnecessary anyway) and the sound was fine after that. They were great but also quite spontaneous, working out a couple of bugs (unless the bugs were planned, I don't think so) as we watched. I was on a high the whole show, fantastic!

  • These guys were really funny. If you expect Guest to be effusive, your not paying attention to his oeuvre.

Their musicianship in Portland was amazing.

    Really funny.

  • Saw them in Seattle tonight and was pretty disappointed. Christopher Guest hardly spoke, and Michael and Harry did all the talking. The sound was kind of bad. I'm a huge fan of these guys and just felt really underwhelmed when I left.

  • I totally disagree. I went to the concert in Seattle and they were GREAT! I had a great time! Laughed for two hours straight! GREAT CONCERT!!!

  • Can't wait to see them tonight in Portland!!

  • Get to see them tomorrow in Portland! Woo hoo!

  • I just got 6th row dead center tickets for the final night of the tour in Milwaukee.

  • Very cool. See you in Chicago.

  • Where's the bass audio?

  • needs more wigs. and the Tap need electricity.

  • we're opening 4 'em in DC - i think - near Cd anyway -i think-

    In a parellela Universe !

  • What type of bass is that 5 string?

  • Lakland

  • Lakland

  • I really hope they release a concert DVD. Sounds great.

  • I'm glad I didn't make an impulse buy of tickets (at $55 for cheap seats) for this. Weak concept.

  • BIG RESPECTS GENTELMAN!!

  • loder is a fucking no talent dumb ass

  • They need to do a cinematic sequel to "This Is Spinal Tap" with a more lucrative contract for these guys, this time. If Reiner (or Guest) directed it, it would go over quite, quite well - could be enormous, in point of fact. "... Spinal Tap" is, to this day, one of the most fondly regarded films of the 1980s, and everyone now loves Guest's follow up directorial efforts.

  • OMG how literal can you get??? UNPLUGGED means "without all the production"! Its a stripped down show... somewhat acoustic, no loud drummer or back up singers. They do them in Nashville all the time. How do you imagine anyone in the audience would be able to HEAR anything if they didnt have at least SOME "pick up" on their instruments?? Why not ask why they have microphones? *sigh*

  • thank you!

  • folks lend a hand in a hell hole.

  • They should have used acoustic bass guitar.

  • Poor mixing by the soundman (could not hear the bass), guitars needed effects, music started slow but got progressively better. Funny interview. and I still love these guys. The TAP can't rock out with those acoustics. "Do STONEHENGE!"

  • its a live video.

  • I understand that it's a live video. And as in most live performances there is a soundman responsible for mixing the voices and instruments which was not done well here. In addition, the guitars would have sounded better with effects.

  • does unplugged mean anything to you?

    People are so dumb.

  • AJest3r: if they are truly "unplugged", why are plugs coming from their guitars? In addition, it's difficult to be unplugged when playing an electric bass. Does that mean anything to you?

  • I agree that what is heard on the recording is not good sound. What your not able to see is that HOB had another event immediately before this and there was no sound check. Also the recording feed came from the mixing desk and not from the room. The bass was going through an amplifier and was heard loud and clear in the room. Believe me, "Tap" CAN rock out on acoustics.

  • "Unplugged" Huh?

Does anyone else see the cords?

Early in the performance you can see that Shermer and McKean are trying to get the sound worked out, and they seem to give it up for lost. At the end of the song Shermer motions @ somebody offstage, indicating the sound equipment. They knew, but performed through it, there's a professionalism there that a lot of musicians might not have been able to muster.

  • Also, you have to remember we're getting a feed directly from the board. The guitars sound really dry to us, but in the room I'm sure it sounded fine.

  • Musicandthemind is right: there are rules about this kind of thing. Harry Shearer has a puce colored shirt (should be blue or lavender) and his pants are clearly some sort of purple color and, of course, the book says "jeans or chinos". It's a travesty.

  • Thanks for doing what you do! I hope to see you on the tour! :D

  • GoASTROkids com

  • This is B'dass

  • pointless

  • they forgot "Unfunny".

  • Hot Lunch Productionz.

They Make Your Dreams Come True.

  • haha!! I loved it! It was awesome! Wait is there a bigger word for awesome? How about the video was incredible!!! :)

  • Going to the show in AC on May 24th, can't wait!!!

  • To be perfectly honest, Spinal Tap was created as a joke and you can't go into something like this and do something serious such as this. Spinal Tap has been famous for the live gimmick of the costumes, awesomely funny music and on stage antics. And without it, frankly. They are nothing.

But on the other hand, kudos for continueing on guys. Bring on the album! Bring back the costumes and Tap back into the UK!

  • eh. i was psyched to hear they're back on tour. and coming to my town.

but i think i can wait until they go on their wigged tour and have electric instruments. i don't have enough money to be blowing it on something that really isn't worth my buck.

they kind of lose their magic when they're out of character.

  • for all of you complaining about the lack of rehearsal, or 'bad guitars', you are missing the point. these guys arent the beatles, they are freakin comedians. appreciate the material

  • how can you post this video and not know christopher guests name?

  • check out 'a mighty wind ',it's side splitting, tongue-in-cheek comedy genius!! these guys are great

  • waiting for guffman is still his best. and i feel best in show was better than a mighty wind as well.

  • ..

I want to know WHEN did you rehearse for this?

A day, a week? An hour?

    VERY sloppy playing.

    ..

  • Haven't any of you ever heard of Spinal Tap? None of these guys claim to be musicians...it's all a parody.

  • gooood

  • wow these guys suck pretty bad

  • Just bought my tickets today!

  • These guys are fantastic. Glad to see they can play as themselves!

  • awesome

  • HARRY SHEARER!? tht bassist is the voice of ned flanders, principle skinnerd, c. montgomery burns, and dr. hiburt on the simpsons!

  • sounds like early grateful dead, nuts

  • Oh man!!!!!

    Im going!!!

    See you in Oakland!

    JB

  • HEY!! :D ;) and YEA! See my profile - it is a possibility you like IT! P.p.p.S - not spamming :)

  • Direction is poor.

  • good stuff. click on me if you dig andy kaufman.

  • The truth of why they're doing this tour at all might have something to do with Revlon still owning the intellectual rights to Spinal Tap (in a deal gone bad in the 80s they acquired the brand, I heard)...

Let's hope they can still bring the funny without the accoutrements

  • I adore these guys...I've seen Spinal Tap dozens of times. And all the C. Guest movies...brilliant. But this has me worried...they're not awesome players, and they aren't really dressed for comedy. I wonder if the Nigel Tufnel persona allowed Chris to be more extroverted onstage...the wigs were most definately funnier than a bunch of old guys deadpanning like Newhart.

  • Is this at Chicago's house of blues?

  • I see they are not un-armadilloed!

  • lieberman, biden & mccain

  • was really hoping they would go into a couple verses of "Big Bottoms". Caught them live, front row, in Anaheim about 15 years ago. Nobody like them!

  • GIVE OUR BAND A LISTEN

just click this channel and view the favorites they are our songs

    comment and rate

    appreciate it

  • Huh... "Hell Hole" doesn't sound too good there. :-(

And yes, I'm pissed 'cause they're not coming near Pittsburgh!!

  • They're in Philadelphia, PA on May 5th, that's not close to Pittsburth? Isn't that in the same state?

  • yeah, it is, but they're like on opposite sides of the state

  • Macaque

  • All I can hear is Principal Skinner singing bass.

  • kool.

  • I think one of their earlier works, a vid called: "Butterfly Hands of Danger" is actually their best work to date.

  • Will they turn up to eleven still?

  • anyone who does not realize the intent of this music originaly a farse in the movie Spinal Tap and then Mighty wind .. comedy guys .. comedy!!! Brilliant humor picking on the life of glamour rock and weird folk music people.

  • Not even good. It's almost embarrassing to watch. There are a million amateur videos on youtube that put these clowns to shame.

  • That's the point of it. Watch Spinal Tap and you'll understand that it's deliberate cheeze.

  • the one in the middle was Lenny on the Laverne Shirley show, ever heard of it?
