  • This is a great way to wax....less mess...less time.....The old way is messy and takes alot of time and wax!!!!!

  • This is not very good way of doing it... frankly.

  • i feel sorry for that snowboard :-(

  • Love this technique. I bought a $20.00 Grizzly heat gun from Amazon. No mess and the waxing only takes about 4 minutes, as you said. I have to heat the wax up a bit to get it to spread better, but I believe it's because I'm using a soy based wax (Libtech Soy Banana Wax). I'd also like to recommend some Swix Fiberlene cloth for spreading the wax instead of household paper towels.

  • can u use any wax u want?

  • @wtfaccountffs I don't see why not. Any soy or fluorocarbon based wax should be fine. Consider your lungs and the environment and go with a soy wax like OBJ, Bluebird, or Libtech.

  • Thanks for the tips man

  • That's a wild shirt.

  • " while the wax is still wet, i rub it with a piece of paper towel" haha I hope you don't ride it like that? unless that board is old school it probably has a sintered base. Therefore it is porous. You need to get rid of all that old ass wax. Heat up those pores, let it soak up some nice fresh wax applied with a traditional iron. and scrape it ALLLL off. There should be no wax sitting on your board dude.. I really hope this you were just kidding and that this was a joke

  • you missed a spot

  • its not a pro waxing but hes just showing us a quick and easy way.

  • you missed a spot

  • Can anybody tell me, using the method in the video, if I need to base clean my board first or if I can apply it when there is already wax on the board.

  • @tohey I take it your not a racer because anyone watching this vid knows you won't win any races with this technique, but that being said, you can brush your base with a poly brush (layman) or metal brush (experienced) to remove dirt, old wax, and structure the base. Then lay on new wax, let cool, scrape, buff. An alternate method is to lay a skim coat of light wax on the board and scrape it warm. Don't use petrochemical cleaners.

  • @tohey not a bad idea to spritz some cleaner on first. this example is a great 'during the season' method. its cheap and fast. and it gives you a consistently better waxed base than say doing an iron/scrape job every 5th time. no one irons/scrapes every time they ride. but i could see doing this method to freshen up wax throughout. at end of the season: iron on wax for storage, then scape the next season. this helps protect the base during storage over the summer and gives you a fresh start.

  • I don't get how this is any easier or quicker than a proper wax job. It just seems a little sloppier at the saved expense of a couple dollars worth of iron, scraper and brush. Sort of a ghetto option. I guess if you're really desperate.

  • Some tips

    1) No matter what you use (heat gun, iron) never keep it in one place. Always move it or you risk deforming the base.

    2) The bonus of using an iron is that it smooths the wax for you while opening the board's pores up. Using a heat gun leaves lines, as you can see in the video.

    3) Always remove the excess wax with a metal or plastic scraper length wise (from tip to tail). Even with the small amount of wax he used in the video it's still a good idea to give it a quick scrape down.

  • can you teach us how to make a snowboard?

  • Nice job on the video and website. Thanks for taking the time to post this. Very innovative thinking. I'm definitely going to try this next time. Thanks for the tip!

As for all the other people worried about warping your board... I think this is probably less likely than with an iron. Its not direct heat like an iron. Just use some common sense. If the board is hot elevate the heat gun and create more space between the board and heat gun. Thanks again, I'll post the results next time!

  • or you can use a $10 travel iron

  • Guy didnt even take his bindings off.........I would rather do it the more time taking why and keep piece of mind than do it your way and be worried about the quality of the job...no offense

  • I suspect a "would rather" have done but didn't have time job isn't as good as a five minute job.

  • Great video, thank you. I tried your method recently on mine and two of my friends and we were all highly impressed with the ride. Usually we get a prof job at the beginning of the season and that's it. This is a good method for a fresh wax refresher during the season. If you ride often it's hard to tell how slow your board is getting. This seems like an inexpensive way to maintain a smooth ride if you are too lazy or cheap to take your board in to the shop several times if you ride a lot.

  • nice video men thanks!

  • you really need to brush the wax to make grooves along the length of the board. if your gonna leave it flat you might as well not even wax it.

  • awesome video! thanks

  • Haha canadian

  • good vid. i still tink an iron works just as fast. but to each there own. thanks for bringing somethig new

  • ca you use a cork on the board ? to rub on?

  • Not a good idea. The heat gun could warp the base very quicly if your not careful. YOU ALWAYS scrape the wax off!!!!! and you should wax every time you are going to ride. It helps protect the base and keeps you fast. Oh yeah, always brush the board after you are done scraping to create structure so the liquid has mini channels to keep you running smooth!!!! most of the time is spent scraping and brushing so that why you are done in 4 minutes.

  • Right. Andwith doing all this stuff "always", you just won't have time for it, so that turns into "never", and I'll be gliding past you because my board, though imperfect, is freshly waxed and yours is not at all.

  • @Matthiaswandel you make time to do it.

  • @BogusBasinBoarder ok and u cant warp the board wiht a freking iron, i use MY mons blow dtyer and it heat the waz and its free for all the PRO MORONS OUT THERE

  • cheapest mf ever

  • using a heat gun or a hair dryer works pretty well but for me using an iron lets the wax soak in alot more evenly. i guess just a personal preference

to how you do it just as long as you protect the wood core

  • My respect for you only grew because this vid shows you actually ride a snowboard =D Snowboarders FTW

  • that's strange and kind of dumb... not to say snowboarding isn't awesome or challenging but his wood working and engineering skills blow snowboarding out of the water... i guess it's all perspective...

  • @NobleValerian

If you read thru my message once more, you just might notice that I just respect him even more since he rides that damn plank. So I'm not trying to make his woodworking & engineering merits look smaller. Ofcourse he is awesome in every respect.

  • This can't be any better of a technique than using a traditional iron.

At least be careful not to keep the heat gun in the same location for too long, or you will severely damage the layering of the board.

  • Not to mention that using an iron you actually have more of a 'press' to it where you fill all the pores and makes for a nice smooth surface after you are done scraping.

  • I didn't say it was better. Just much faster and way less messy.

  • Oh I know. Better in terms of time vs. end result is what I am getting at. You win on the mess left over though :)

  • @Matthiaswandel Hey Matt, about how long does this job last? I was going to try it because it seems faster and cheaper, but if it doesn't last very long, I wont. If it lasts about 6 hrs or more that would be great. 4 would be nice even. Let me know, thanks.

  • I don't know. I always like to have a fesh wax job, so I take a few minutes to do the board before I go. After one day boarding, usually just the edges need touching up.

  • @Tweak589 are u kidding it better then ironing i use a normal blow dryer, a really good one i guess since it melts wax, and it work 100 x better simpler and safer then a iron on the board common

  • @Tweak589 i think is better and faster then wax heats up and melt sin the base , why wouldthe iron be better does the same shat, plut u have a hot piece of metal on it, i tryed wiht a blow dryer and work perfectly i went skiing and i was the fasters on the slope, and i was coming in fast on the flat at the chairlift when everybosy was dragging

  • Keep doing those awesome videos as long as you can, Matthias.

  • This is very simalar to how i wax my race skis except i use an iron.

  • EXTREM'ly.. Nice video. ;) Phun intended....

  • thank you Matthias....great job.

  • Dear Matthias, saying without any sense of pride, you can trust yourself, you're a good person, helpful and clever!

  • Someone needs to hire matthais just for his videos. If I had the money I would give him a nice salary. Indeed.

  • you are a hero, one day i hope to be as pro as you

  • I mixed up your comment with "Become an hero" XD

  • that is nice lulz

  • Is he shy?

    In front of the camera?

  • you make great videos - i love learning

  • Could you show how to sharpen the edges of the board please...?

  • this guy is so cool, while being so awkward.

    love the vids man.

  • Northern winter sports are probably the one thing you can really look forward to in those winters, but damn is it something to look forward to.

I'll have to keep this in mind Nice tip

  • a simple question : why is every1 whos hobby is such thing wearing those shirts ? :P

  • @xZockermausx Two words: Tim Allen

  • Ahhhh Canada... you have dozens of ski resorts. Where do you snowboard?

  • @EmperorAst

    EEVEERRYYWHHEERRREEEE
