Not in the play. The movie thought breaking up the serious-ness with Officer Krupke after the rumble was a bit awkward, so they moved Officer Krupke to before the War Council, and Cool to after.
In the play, they "play it cool" until the war council starts, and Action sings officer krupke after Riff dies.
It all depends on the company that presents the play. In my high School's production of west side we are going with the order that is done in the movie. I don't really like Officer Krupke after the rumble, it too much of a change of mood.
I've never seen a production do it that way. Usually when you order the scripts and the rights to produce the show they're so strict on keeping the script/score as is that you really can't omit/change things. The most I've seen to change a song around was changing the key signature or finding a creative way to censor it
Well the plan is to do it that way, that's what the director says, but nothing is set in stone yet. The production isn't until April so there's a lot of room for modifications.. Actually the cast list is being posted tomorrow!
Ooop, well good luck with the whole production. I'm willing to admit the one my school did was very lack-luster, last minute band, cross gender casting for 90% of the show, etc.
Our cast looks solid, but I haven't had the chance to hear the band play yet. I got cast as Gee-tar, which is good because I am a better dancer than actor.
@crem2news Not if you do it the right way. It can be very affective to see just how screwed up the Jets are. It's like they can't deal with what happens to Riff that they just sort of snap. It's all about direction. If your director is going for the laughs then Officer Krupke takes away but if done right it adds another level to the performance.
It's nice to finally see some West Side clips on youtube where the music is actually good LOL. All of these clips sound fantastic!! Love the choreography too, very well done...
this is pretty good! for what they have and who they are, i applaud them!

The music is kinda fast for a song about cooling down?
It got really good when everyone joined in for the "Crazy, cool, go". I got a little shiver.

congrats on that one. We didn't have many dancers or singers so the production suffered over all. High school theater.... -_-
