@douro20 I used a delay from Roland DEP-5. To answer your question below, the Syntochestra is not a "real" synthesizer. Basically it is a preset synth combined with a simple polyphonic section.
@sergioavia POLY PITCH globally tunes the polyphonic part of the instrument. MONO TRACK changes the key scaling (i.e., setting larger or smaller ranges than half-step between each key).
So much character. Very sPaCeY + psychedelic. I could see playing with that is very inspiring. With a little phaser + stereo delay the sound is out of this world!
im so jealous - this sounds amazing- i have been going all analog and looking for all the odd stuff outside all the usual big boys- moog roland oberheim etc- stuff like this the logan even the crumar performer intrigue me more but this is really that classic mid 70s sound ala schulze td jarre etc- brilliant
as far as i can remember the only one i know who used the synthorchestra was pascal languirand in inesperdistan and i wondered wich synth made that incredible sound, i want one!!!
Now how freaking hard would it be to reissue something this cool? It's got an easy physical package design and is very versatile sounding, not like the crap they make today. 5 stars!
Easy, but the market for a keyboard that only does THIS in the modern age would be too small in order to be profitable. Plus, it would be expensive if it were 100% analog.
Yeah one just went for more than I wanted to pay again..that thing does sound excellent. I'm thinking of making a hybrid with some parts I have lying around that should get some similar sounds with an sh1000's guts and a crumar trilogies with a DK600's synth channels in place of the cards on the trilogy :-). Should be interesting frankensynth. hehe. But that think is COOL for the small number of controls! They really packed a lot of musical potential in there. Love to see schematics of it.
i have one of these, wooden version. the mono half is simply fantastic, expecially the trumpet and flute preset with much cutoff and portamento. the poly part isn't bad either, but if you are just looking for a string machine there are better sounding ones around imho (roland rs505, solina).
The stuff you were doing around 5:00 sounds a bit like an ARP Pro-Soloist (in the upper voice mostly; does this keyboard split???) - can you give any info on what the waveforms, osciallator settings, or presets are for the sounds you're getting in that section?
@rizz7604 It does not have split. But you can layer mono and poly, like in the video. I can't remember the settings exactly, but it's easy to see in the video, which preset tabs were pressed and also the slider positions.
Great video and playing. I liked the way you started it. It's a fantastic sounding instrument. Those tabs below the keys look like they could be very fragile. Really an interesting design though. I can definitely hear Klaus in there.
Thanks AnalogAudio1! There is no information I could find anywhere on the 4. I really like your demo the syntorchestra sounds beautiful. Syntorchestra 4 sounds great as well but maybe not quit as good as the original. Want to swap ? : )
@CARDBOARDCITYRECORDS The Syntorchestra 4 is a completely different instrument. Of course it sounds completely different. If you have one - congratulations, it's very rare!
I loved these sounds when I was very young. I remember hearing Heart of Glass and asking about the swirling noise. (Was it a Polymoog? With a phaser?) I didn't know about stringsynths and have only found out on YT!
Dude, this is magic. Portamento, VCOs, VCF, Mono+Poly and a bunch of good voices inside a casing this small. I'm happy for you, dude! This baby kicks Microkorg/Alesis Micron asses! Take care of it!
You were right... such sounds are REALLY unique! No other keyboards has these leads and pads you show here. It sounds really heavenly sometimes. Really best regards! I never heard such things from an electric synthesizer.
I'm a huge Klaus Schulze fan and really enjoyed the "Moondawn" sounds you were using between the 4 and 6 minute marks here. I also heard some similar sounds to Manuel Gottsching (Ashra)'s album "New Age Of Earth" played here. Great demonstration of the Syntorchestra!!!

Wow. I've been searching for info on this instrument for some time. Finally stumbled onto this vid. I didn't realize how much of the Moondawn sound came from this one synth. Thanks! Now where can I find one cheap that still works? He he.
I love this video. I often come back to hear it again. :)
