Limestone, coke (pure carbon) and iron ore are fed into blast furnaces where the iron oxide combines with the carbon and limestone. The results are pig iron, slag and CO2. The pig iron is high in carbon, but is mostly free of other impurities, which have combined with the limestone to form the slag.

there is a quarry here that we want to swim in but we've heard bad things!
