By using that sponge and tiny brush your adding at least 2-3mins per wheel, waste of time in my opinion as using a soft brush does just as good job and gets into areas the sponge wouldn't (sponge is too big only useful for tyres).
Im not saying you should rush your wheels, you should take your time. However that small brush and sponge on the alloy can easily be replaced with (supersoft feather green bristle brush) from chemical guys. The EZ detail brush is just the best!
@autolavish What would you suggest as a good dressing for the inside of the wheel wells? I have tried armor all (bad idea) and it wound up giving dust something to stick to. Advice is much appreciated!!
@fish4kbcf Try using some Meguiars all season dressing. It dries to a fairly matte finish, but if left to dwell and not wiped off it stays a bit shiny. Good luck!
Diablo Gel is considered safe for all wheels because it is gentle. There are definitely stronger cleaners on the market. Just make sure the wheel material can take the cleaner. Acid-based cleaners work great, but incorrect use can cause much damage down the road.
Heavy brake dust will be a challenge to any brush. Keep in mind that the stiffer the brush the more swirls you are causing on your wheels. Most wheels are actually painted, either with color/clear or just clear over alloy. So stiffer brushes is not always the way to go. Of course if you have baked on brake dust the wheels are probably not too valuable ;) j/k. A step up in cleaner will generally help the situation for the better...
@gshdrums True! Their bristles are rather soft. Which is exactly why we use them. Most wheels are painted, which will get swirled similar to the paint on the body. Using hard brushes will just make them look worse over time. Brake dust needs chemical help to be removed. A good cleaner with a good brush is the trick, and cleaning off the brake dust more often helps too.
@gshdrums I would advise to use chemical guys Diablo Gel Wheel & Rim Cleaner leave for a minute then agitate with the EZ brush. If its not coming off use a more concentrated solution 1:4. Its the best rim cleaner in my opinion. If then it doesn't come off, it will eventually if you clean your rims regularly.
@LarryDavidFreak All good detailers should , you can warp your disk brakes if there hot and you spray cold water on them. The thermometer would be handy
@69chevymaro what about if you go through a puddle and the rotors get wet, they warp?! they are designed to handle cold water, not trying to be rude but i think its unnecessary
@LarryDavidFreak your right dude, its complety optional, but people say it can warp the brakes. I personaly wouldnt risk it if i was doing someone elses car.

Painfully slow way of cleaning wheels. Do it like this:
Rinse the rim
Apply wheel cleaner liberally (wait 30 seconds)
Scrub with a soft brush (supersoft feather bristle green brush) across the face and indentations of the rim to lather up the cleaner
Then use an EZ brush to clean right to the back and all round
Then rinse.
Use a sponge to quickly clean round the tyre with some tyre cleaner. Then dry with cloth and apply autoglym rubber plus cleaner no5 with a paintbrush.
