Bulbasaur's always my main choice. Although Fire types are fairly scarce... Just don't pick Squirtle. There's so many Water types in every Pokemon game (except B/W)

I like them all personally. Here's why:

Bulbasaur - Great against many of the Kanto gym leaders and evolves from the 2nd stage to the the 3rd stage quicker than Charmander or Squirtle

Charmander - Very Powerful and gains a FLYING subtype which is very helpful.

Squirtle - Highly defensive and can learn ice type moves that can fend off your Rival's pokemon

I always have difficulty choosing!
