4of4: For semantics :) , 7:35 a Bong IS a Bong by itself. A Bong with anything else, including a Wu Sao, is tech. considered a Kwan Sao, but yes rear Wu important as you said.
3rd example whether you go straight up or do your twirly thing, you still have the same action (look at the other arm). 8:23 do all your students hit with circular backfists instead of straight punches? Again at 9:01 in slow motion for those who missed. I suppose since its 2012 I’ll just say you’re doing it different :)
3of4: It’s not related to the first portion, just convenient for flow. Just like with Don Chi Sao, in real life we don’t roll up into a Bong driving a punch into our face. Several times in this section it looks like you have a Laan Sao and are trying to seduce it by calling it a Bong. You can call an apple an orange but makes it no less an apple. The shoulder burns because most people incorrectly tense up, raising the Bong shoulder up, instead of relaxing it as taught in SLT. Cont..
2of4: It’s to feel the Lop, recognize it, and instinctively turn into Bong to counter the Loping action (disappearing) while maintaining doy ying and chung chi, presumably to follow up w/ Bil Sao or another tool. The bong is NOT formed in anticipation of a possible strike, its formed to escape the Loping hand. 4:36 when are there backfists in WC or we’re taught to punch to the moon? This part, the punch should be wrist to wrist, facing forward not up, testing the structure of the Bong. cont..
1of4:Some good items but please take as constructive criticism. 1st example is nice with Jum Sao, but starting out the gate 1:12 his hands are already across the center. In fact you play your Chi Sao the same way. It screams “Please Jut or Pal Jong me!! Hurt me I want to die!”
4:18 #1 mistake is assuming the Bong is a block. Its NOT, it’s a transitional move. A Bong should disappear as quickly as it’s formed. The purpose of Lap Sao is not for one to Lap and the other block with a Bong. cont..
Good point to bong only once there's really s.t. to bong. i
If you were to assume Robert is lap sauing for a straight punch, & according to habit supply a bong, he actually COULD be going for the chop to the kidneys/ribs, and you're left with a hanging bong sau while he chops you.
Assumption- that is precisely the error. I was backing you up, hgamer.
You were showing that the bong should only happen once the intention of the opponent is clear & he's committed, such as if Robert were making a straight punch.
You were saying that some people automatically bong the moment they feel the opponent's lap sau; I was agreeing that that is a poor choice.
I was saying Robert COULD actually be about to chop the ribs, and that if 'you' reflexively bong, then the chop lands.
@DizzyDerwish that's why arm being lop sau is so important, since it is your signal to distinguish between what type of attack you will be receiving, not only light, heavy or medium, or as you said if he goes high or low, or whatever. The reaction should be in conjunction with the type of force and direction that is given
Nice video hgamer, when's the next time you'll do some chi sao with Master Fong? Man's incredible everytime I see his video. My Sifu learned his teaching based on the family tree and I'm happy to be a part of it.
