  • running down the river will not help you...

  • If you want him come and claim him,so HOT!!!!!

  • Why were they initially afraid if the water?

  • @DragonTycoon Because the river Bruinen is elvish domain and it's controlled by Elrond. Tolkien never explains why they're afraid of water in general though.

  • @alwaysthecrazyperson cuz she's a woman, and women belong in the kitchen

  • @josekiller17 Funny. We're the ones with the knives.

  • One does not simply dislike this video.

  • Waters of the Misty Mountains, listen to the great word, flow waters of Loudwater against the Ringwraiths

  • this is such a damn fail.. to think that powerful dudes like the witch-king, morgomir, khamul, Adunaphel etc would be overpowered by some elf girl...

  • Didn't legolas save frodo in the book as i recall =D, although this would suffice if Tolkien didn't think of it XD

  • @Countercruel as i recall according to the book it was Glorfindel, who could mentally and physically go to middle earth from valinor at will.. Then he states that many elves could do that...

  • Nin o Chithaeglir, lasto beth daer,

Rimmo nin Bruinen, dan in Ulair!

Nin o Chithaeglir, lasto beth daer,

Rimmo nin Bruinen, dan in Ulair!

  • This is probabley the only thing that didn't happen in the books that I absolutely ADORED!!

  • @CathannahShowani then i bet you loved the animated one that Frodo acutally does the same thing

  • @aquelescaraaaaaaaaaa Ew, no. I'm with J.R.R Tolkien on that one-- "Insulted, insulted, insulted, ticked-off, ticked-off, ticked-off!"... Though I do what these directors have against Glorfindel.

  • @CathannahShowani or Tom Bombadil for that matter, the fact is, they didnt do anything, and the book spends a lot of time developing them.

  • @aquelescaraaaaaaaaaa Arwen is the only one in the book who "didn't do anything". she was there and then gone, hardly ever seen again.. So why does she get to steal Glorfindel's appearance, Frodo's ride, AND Elrond & Gandalf's tidal wave?

  • @CathannahShowani the same may go to all of the scenes Jackson added, but in this case, i think Jackson wanted all characters to be extremely developed, and that's the advantage of the Jackson film, the characters are fleshed-out beyond belief, even tough not as accurate in the book, an advantage the Bakshi film have over the Jackson, but yeah, i bet Tolkien would be pissed off by that.

  • Comment removed

  • @aquelescaraaaaaaaaaa Actually, Jackson kinda drained the personality out of Legolas, and butchered the personalities of Eomer and especially Faramir! .. I'm not complaining about this particular scene though- It's pretty awesome that Arewn does all this, and I like it. I would've really super enjoyed it if it happened this way in the book too. XD

  • LOL frodo is ODing

  • As soon as they see that water its like FUUUUUUUU!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I would have so many of Liv Tylers babies!

  • When I watched this scene for the first time I didn't even realize that she essentially gave him her ticket to Valinor at that moment.

  • Worse scene in the movie. Completely took away Frodo's courageous "You shall have neither me nor the ring" stand.

Instead we get "Hollywood ho" to appease the PC crowd

  • @Essefen While Frodo's stand was impressive, I don't think it was changed to be PC. Just to give Arwen some credit.

  • Just read this part in the book... Good job, Frodo, my little trooper! ^.^

  • Arwen is soooo hot

  • i think they run the wrong side, they should move towards her :P

  • I can't stand this part. So ridiculous.

  • @Kekkiki I agree, it makes no sense.. why would they start running down the river.. if they ran straight forward they would have just stood next to her...

  • Nîn o Chithaeglir, lasto beth daer, Rimmo nˆn Bruinen dan in Ulaer!

  • It was Gandalf who helped set up the defences of rivendale what Arwen said is like a code to actvate the spell, basically its a magical voice acvtated land mine so its Gandalfs magic but Arwen set it off.

  • @modmadness1 Actually it's mostly Elrond's magic, using Vilya, the Ring of Air. Gandalf just gave it a few extra touches of his own, which manifested as the white horses leading the waves. Rivendell was Elrond's domain, and as such it was protected by his magic.

  • @modmadness1 Doesn't the book say as soon as the hooves of the black horses touched the water, the river rose up against them? The river is defended against all evil comers on behalf of Rivendell itself. Gandalf says later that he added the illusion of the white water-horses for effect.

  • awesome scene yet in the books its not arwen who saves frodo

  • @ComicManultimate Yeah I wanted to see Glorfindel...

  • @ComicManultimate Well, let's face it, in the books all Arwen does is look pretty and cry. In the movie they decided it would be more badass if she looked pretty and cried on a horse.

If I were Luthien Tinuvel and Arwen was my descendent, I would smack her across the head and tell her to grow a pair.

  • @reelirishboy5 haha lol i think i woud skip the scene with arwen heaving a pair...if u kno what im talking about :D

  • @ComicManultimate

Oh c'mon its not that far of a stretch. I mean, we all knew Aragorn was shanking Merry and Pippin in Moria where no one could see.

  • lucky for arwen it was slo-mo.

  • Aww I love how she cuddles him at the end :D <3

  • I love it! Awesome! =) Thanks for the Elvish words and translation. =)

  • Wish she could fight the like swords&tha'

  • The common tongue translation of the spell/invocation is, "Waters of the Misty Mountains, listen to my plea... Flow the waters of Breunin against the Ring-Wraiths!"

  • @ryan33bttm Beautiful words, thanks for posting them!

  • @PennySmart - sorry it has taken me so long to reply! You're most welcome - I can't vouch for my translation entirely, but I have been reading Tolkien since I was about 6 years old, so I can more or less fudge Elvish to English translations sometimes! Long live LOTR! Take care :)

  • MY GOD

    SHE'S BEAUTIFUL

  • The Nazgul voice is what gives me chills

  • Comment removed

  • why cant the nazgul cross water?

  • @Mattisnotavailabable cuz theyre impure and also the elves are very powerful theyre saurons best liutenats but theyre weak agaisnt sunlight and stuff galadriel can own all of em lol

  • @DarthRevanist oh right thank you :) i never even realised till i saw this again that the wraith spoke english i thought he was speaking elvish or nazgul lol

  • @Mattisnotavailabable idk, maybe cause it's clean=P

  • @titteringfiend1 lol the dirty things :D

  • @Mattisnotavailabable coz they r undead and in most old writing vampire ect cant cross running water easliy

  • Arwen: I use my Daily power! Summon Water Horseys!

DM: You summon water horseys that come crashing down, dealing 500 damage to all of the nazgul caught in the area of effect, the nazgul scream in terror as they are washed away...

    Arwen: Ah yeah!

DM: But it's not over! Frodo starts to choke and has become deadly ill!

Arwen: :O I use second wind, and a healing surge to heal Frodo!

  • "I think you'll find it's pronounced 'SHELF'!!"

    *summons magic wave*

  • In the book, why didn't Tolkien use Arwen? SHE NEEDS IMPORTANCE!!!!!

  • Retard Nazgul: give up the halfling, she-elf.

Awesome Arwen: IF YOU WANT HIM, COME AND CLAIM HIM!!!!

Then every single ringwraith takes out their sword and Arwen is fearless. ARWEN IS AWESOME!!!!!!!

(and Frodo is staring off into space, but who could blame him? Poor kid...)

  • 0:41 arwen's facial expression, "what did i just do?"

0:58 "OMG it actually worked" lol

  • Glorfindel should get this part!

  • there is an unparalleled beauty when a female shows strong emotions like this one above.

  • If you are on Facebook, then you deserve to be visited in the night by Skeletor, Floridas governator. He has crawled out of the grave to visit your ilk. He will suck your neck if he gets the chance, or maybe go lower.

  • @TheNarniaFreak Oh, then, it must be the extended version. I watched both on DVDs so don't remember sometimes which part belongs to which.

  • "What grace has given me, let it pass to him. Let him be spared. Save him."

    Luv that line :D

  • is this the extended edition??

when the spell actually works, Arwen actually looks surprised!!! Like, it wouldn't work!!!

  • @TheNarniaFreak Yes, but I think it's in the theatre's version too.

  • @TheNarniaFreak Maybe she thought that one or two would survive? She clearly knew that she was going to use that spell, but drew her sword anyway, as if she expected to fight one or two of them. Only thing I can think of to make sense of it.

  • @hansellius yeah that duz make sense. cuz obviousely she wouldnt doubt her own magic

  • @TheNarniaFreak Not her own magic, but she might be unsure of the power of the Black Riders.

  • @hansellius yeah, that makes sense...so like, they'd come up with their own spell or something?

  • @TheNarniaFreak They'd use a protective spell, or something. I'm not sure. But that's the only explanation I can think of.

  • @hansellius In Black Speech? Yeah, that makes sense :) and the Ringwraiths /did/ chant in black speech or something when they're about to stab frodo.

  • @TheNarniaFreak If I remember it correctly from the book her intent was just to get some sort of smaller wave, but the effect was much bigger due to some kind of spell Elrond made at the same time (I guess he could sense they were there as soon as they crossed the river and entered the Rivendell area)

  • @TheNarniaFreak I think that's because Elrond and Gandalf did it. XDDDDDD

  • @TheNarniaFreak

I think she's surprised because of Gandalf's magic within the waves.

  • At 0:30 Shes like, Crap this better Work lol

  • i hope i could have this power

  • that wave is actually me swimming down to to beat down them hooded jockeys for giving liv shit

  • It just gives you goosebumps, doesn't it?

  • It would be cooler if it was Glorfindel like in the books that rode Frodo to Rivendell. I don't really like Arwen.

  • i love it!!! but it was disabled on my facebook account, will all of you try it and see if it will let you, i hate facebook censorship! this scene is sooooo powerful, yes chilling, it gives me holy ghost goosebumps too...guess they didnt like the way i compared it to what speaking in tongues is really like and an example of when someone might need to use it...words are powerful in any language, but especially when used like this....

  • @hinkle2earth If Facebook disabled it, it's more likely due to some copyright issue than to do with your comment re speaking in tongues. How could they read every comment? Sister, beware of Christian paranoia! ;) God bless you!

  • @PennySmart if it was just copyright the other scenes wouldnt play, it sounded good anyway...

  • @hinkle2earth

Oh my goodness, I never thought of this scene like that! Lol, I love it!

  • I actually like the change from Glorfindel to Arwen. Keeping him would be confusing, there's already a ton of characters to keep track of, and he would only be in it for a few minutes. And this IS the 21st century and they had to have some girl-power in the film. In the book Arwen is barely involved and we have to wait for Eowyn to kick some ass. Plus it's all right since Arwen IS an elf and can probably fight even better than Aragorn. Only problem is this was Frodo's badass moment originally.

  • What if the huge Surge of water didn't come...lol...She'd be screwed!

  • @BumbleBrook She summoned it and knows the spells i think it would come :P

  • Now that's what I call a seahorse

    lol just sayin

  • @KulakxFilms Yes, in the book, it is the Elf Glorfindel who helps Frodo cross but Glorfindel does not appear in the films. (Films cannot have as many characters as books, it would be too confusing.) But it is Frodo who challenges the Black Riders. That change is perhaps less justifiable.

  • oh wait, not legolas, it was glorfindel, should have stuck to the books on him, he was real bad ass

  • wasnt is legolas in her position in the book? im pretty sure it was

  • @KulakxFilms It's not Legolas, it's Glorfindel, a character who's only in the books. He's a seriously badass elf.

  • @daffodil977 if you read my other comment you would of realized i corrected my self. iknow who glorfidnell is

  • @KulakxFilms oh yeah.....hehe well we both agree that he's a badass

  • magnificent!

  • Epic.....the end :3

  • I think that's Khamul speaking, second in command after the Witch King. If I remember the book correctly there were only 8 following Frodo to the river. The Witch King did not.

  • "If you want him, come and claim him!" LOVE IT!!!

  • I tried to tell them boys on them black horses don`t screw with that Elf,, she`ll give you a bad day.

  • i would've felt so sorry for arwen if her spell hadnt worked.. :D

why did the ringwraiths just stand there waiting to take a bath anyway?

  • @Da1337Man The book, even though it doesn't say it straight, but it makes you understand that their horses are somehow afraid of the waters of the river, and tend not to step on it. The book says "the leader knight forced his horse into the river" (not exactly like this, though, I'm translating of what I readed in portuguese for I'm brazilian).

  • How comes here, the Witch-King has a grumbly voice, but in Return of the King, his voice is so dark, but clear.

  • @jamesk551 Maybe in this clip, it's not the Witch-King who speaks. It may have been Khamûl, the second in command of the Black Riders.

  • Arwen gives me a boner

  • Did you know that those horses in the water were created by Gandalf? Mostly for show but to also cause extra damage.

  • i like it when arwin does the spell

  • but the ringwraiths were so close! why did they stop!? they were literally...15 feet away haha

  • @justintzou because of the water, symbol of spirit, of life...

  • I don't actually remember one of them talking before in this scene...Although it has been ages since I watched it

  • I'd also like to ask a question... why the heck do the Nazgul ride down stream staying in the river that is flash flooding instead of running back up the bank to the higher ground they came down?

  • @burningreach I think being slaves to the Dark Lord fried their brains and destroyed their powers of deductive reasoning. ;)

  • The nazgul's voice sounds shitty and stressed like someone trying to do a "scarry" voice and failing. Exactly like Christian Bale's lame "batman voice" In batman begins.

  • His eyes are so blue!!!! XDDD

  • the horses were Gandalf's trick when he got there just in time, in the book. Frodo never saw him but he actually came to the rescue and attacked the wraiths. There's no way a mere elf could have done this, only a wizard could pull it off

  • @BaseOfLiterature "mere" elves tend to be very old, Elrond is at least 2500 years. Though it was Gandalf in the book, (he was a maiar, the same type of being as Sauron, actually) Elrond did have great power over Rivendell. One could interpret the rush of water as part of Rivendell's defensive network.

  • @BaseOfLiterature Yes, the horses were Gandalf's trick but the flood was made possible by Vilya's power.

  • Man .. there isn't any take in this movie that I don't like !

  • Ooo! Nazgûl just got pwned! "Nîn o Chithaeglir, lasto beth daer, Rimmo nîn Bruinen, dan in Ulair!"-gives me the chills everytime.

  • I love when the Nazgul speak.

  • Not sea-elf lol, it's She-Efl

  • @karnima66 yes, it's She-Elf! :)

  • One of my favourite scenes! the nazgul theme is brilliant! and the way arwen's words echo is beautiful and brings that elven-magic to life!

  • Arwen Is brilliant and able to take on the wraiths

  • It's sea-elf not she-elf :p,

  • @ThexNaaru it's she-Elf :)

  • Probably one of the best scenes in the series. Agreed the way her voice echoes gives chills....does anyone know what spell she's chanting? the translation?

  • Arwen:" Nîn o Chithaeglir, lasto beth daer, Rimmo nîn Bruinen, dan in Ulair!

Nîn o Chithaeglir, lasto beth daer, Rimmo nîn Bruinen, dan in Ulair!"

(Waters of the Misty Mountains, listen to the great word, flow waters of Loudwater, against the Ringwraiths!)

Thanks to NocturneViolin for providing the Elvish words and the translation.

  • Thank you very much

  • @xshibityx it's a year late but

Arwen: Nin o Chithaenglir, lasto beth daer, Rimmo nin Bruinen dan in Ulaer!

Nin o Chithaenglir, lasto beth daer, Rimmo nin Bruinen dan in Ulaer!

Arwen: Waters of the Misty Mountains Listen to the great word; Flow waters of Loudwater

    against the Ringwraiths.

  • @xshibityx Nin o Chithaeglir, lasto beth daer, rimmo n^n Bruinen dan in Ulaer!

translation: Waters of the Misty Mountains, listen to the great word, flow waters of Loudwater against the Ringwraiths!

  • I love the way her voice echoes...gives me chills

  • @MidknightKC me too bro

  • One of the most powerful scenes of the movie.

  • Liv didnt get even remotely enough credit for her portrayl as Arwen. She was remarkable throughout the trilogy. That one line is this scene made her a superstar in my eyes. Totally bad ass...loved it!!!!

  • This is my favorite scene!! GIrl Power!!

  • wow the ringwraiths sound bad ass but not as bad ass as the witchking

  • oh man i remember this scene...was my fav scene in fellowship

  • "If you want him, come and claim him!"

  • i love that line

  • 0:12 <3

  • "nîn o chithaeglir lasto beth daer

rim o nîn bruinen dan in-ulaer"

  • BAD ASS. :D

  • this is so amaizing!!!!!

  • Cassy, it's from The Fellowship of the Ring, 1st film of the trilogy The Lord of the Rings.

  • I'm a girl and I think TLotR is phenomenal. I love the Nazgûl. I guess that makes me a geek. :(

  • Yes, I'm pretty sure it's Andy Serkis.

He made the voice of the Witchking in all the Lord of The Rings, as well Gollum/Smeagol of course.

The other Nazgul scream's are made by a woman, I don't remember who is she but she's not Peter Jackson's wife for sure :D

  • It is, it even says it in the credits

  • What, Coconutlink? That Andy Serkis does the Witchking's voice or that Fram Jackson does the Nazgul's screams? (I'm too lazy to check the credits.. ;-)

But I do remember from the bonus how Peter heard Fram scream and thought this would do for the Nazgül :-)

  • Only Andy Serkis to make a voice so brutal like this :|

:D "Give up the Halfling, She-Elf!!!"

  • Are you sure it's Andy Serkis's voice? I thought he had not worked for the 1st film of the Trilogy. I only remember from the bonus that Peter Jackson's wife, Fran, provides the Black Riders' shrieks!
