  • I'd never heard about this story. Alton was awesome. It's awful what happened to him.

  • Alton and I both graduated from Green Run High School and were good friends. He was a very special person, athlete and friend! Watching that video brought back a lot memories.........and a lot of sadness as well! It was such a senseless murder!

  • So many random, senseless deaths in our class (USNA '91)... *sigh*

  • I went to the Academy and BUD/S w/ Alton. No one possessed greater natural athletic ability, charisma or leadership potential. Grizz was fearless, confident, competent yet humble, all in one. He let his actions on the football field, the PT 'grinder' and on deployment as a young JO in the Teams speak for himself. The Academy, the Navy and America lost an incredible individual who touched so many lives in his brief but fulfilled life. Alton lived every day like it was his last. Godspeed #16...

  • I played football with Alton at the athletic fields on Dahlia Drive when I was a kid. He was so amazing on many levels. I loved watching him play at Green Run. His loss was such a tragedy. Every time I walk down the hall in Green Run high (often), i see his picture up on the wall with his jersey and I'm reminded that I was once in th epresence of greatness. God Bless Alton, HOOYAH!

  • Jeffrey Scott is my half-brother. I always looked up to those two guys, Alton and Scott. I wanted so much to be like them.Fearless, Brave, and Talented. I remember Alton with fond memories like the time he thought his dad was gonna kill him for coming down to South Carolina when he broke his foot messing around on the motorcycles. Our lives are so much better just for having known him.

  • my mum was at usna with alton. she said he was awesome.

  • Alton Lee was my best friend when we were kids living in Japan, Both our fathers were in the navy. I played foot ball with him, his dad, Bill was our coach. I went in the Army...He went to the naval acedemy. I often wondered if Atha Dale went on to be an english teacher, she wanted to do that way back then......I miss all of them dearly...Bill, Candy, Atha Dale and most of all, my best friend....He is always in my thoughts and prayers...I miss you friend....Scott

  • I went to school with Alton and to this day think of him frequently. What a tremendous person he was even as a young man. The few times I saw him after graduation, he was still as warm and kind as ever. I miss him terribly.

  • he is great player.

    sad story. good video dude.

  • In 1981, I played against Alton in a couple youth football games when we both lived in Yokosuka Japa. He was a superb athlete even in the 7th grade. RIP

  • Hey my brother played with Alton in Japan too. They play together on the same team. You might know them. Edwad and Ethan Newmiller. I was the masgot for the Rams the older player team. I told Alton I would marry him when I got older. What was funny is he went to Green Run High and was a Senior when I was a freshman. He was a sweet guy and remember me telling him that years ago. Our family were great friends too!! Alton # 16 will never be forgotten!!

  • I wrote the last posting of my Brother's playing with Alton. I am not sure if it was under my youtube account or my son's. My oldest plays football in high school but he can have that number do to being on the line!!!

  • I have a Discovery Documentary about the US Navy SEALs which I think was on in the early 90s...Alton is interviewed in this documentary while going through BUDs..was quite surprised to here of his death :o(

  • I am a freshmen at Green Run High School and there's a picture of him in his Jersey #12. I didn't know what happened to him until today I thought he just wasn't drafted or anything.... Im happy to know that he served our country and I am very sad he had to go this way..

  • Damn,...that guy is NOT built like the typical QB and has a pretty damned accurate arm. What a sad story,..seems to be the type of guy who would have worked his full time job, got off early for high school football practice as a coach,.and then showed up to youth football practice too. Good guy.

  • Alton has been apart of my family since he played Football with my borther in Japan little league ball. I was a cheerleader for their team and team older team. I want to say I know him like a Brother and he will always be in my thoughts. I love and care for him and his family. It means more to me besides the fact that he was killed on my birthday to go with it. I hope to see him one day in HEAVEN!! LOVE N MISS YA ALTON GRIZZARD!!! LITTLE SIS!!!

  • His sister is my honors English teacher at Green Run High School, shes only talked about him once. I pass his jersey every day on my way to weightlifting class.

  • I love this video! My name is Alton Lee Weathers a cousin of Altons. He has always been special to me. As a kid growing up I looked up to him and wanted to be like him. As an adult I still do; I guess if I had to say that I had an earthly hero it is Alton and to all that knew him you know why. I hope that Alton will continue to inspire others for years to come. God Bless

  • Alton was in several of my classes at Green Run High. We were not best friends, but he was always a good guy. He was the first person my age in my social circle who died. I was shocked when he was murdered. This is a beautiful tribute. It reminds me of all the Friday Night Lights of high school. (I never saw this Navy footage before today).

  • I played with Alton (I was 2 years ahead), and I still remember when he replaced John Nobers, the Senior, when Alton was only a Plebe. I think it was the 2nd game in 1987. He went on to start 4 years. Great player, but an even greater guy.

I remember well the day I learned, on my submarine, that Alton was shot and killed. Rest in Peace, my friend. Rest in Peace.

    Ingar

  • WOAH!!! A QB that can actually pass...

  • I watched him in two Army Navy games in the late 80s when I was at West Point. Without a doubt one of the best players to play the game. Army won, but he almost won them on his own.

  • Embodies what navy football stands for. Wish more people knew about this incredible guy. Terrible year for navy, EE scandal, mids death on the way home from army game, and alton just before the game. Wish we coulda pulled that one out in 93. Navy fans are spoiled now, not remembering the mid 90s of 5 straight losses by less than 4 pts. Love the video, thanks.

  • I went to the Naval Academy with Alton and I knew him pretty well. I did not play football but I was also a varsity athlete. He was by far the best natural athlete that I ever saw. He would help anybody at anytime and unfortunately that led to his untimely death. Everyone could picture Alton sacrificing himself on the battlefield for one of his brothers........... Everytime I see this video, hear his name, or think of him I cry. I miss him dearly. Rest in peace my friend.

  • i am a sophmore at averill park high school i am a Qb just for alton i choose #16 for my football number for his memory

  • R.I.P i graduated from green run

  • I was a few years ahead of Alton at Navy. I got to know him when we were at BUD/S together. Great guy. Very humble. One of the best athletes I have ever met. Period.

Still get sad thinking about his tragic death.

  • Alton and I were neighbors in Yokosuka, Japan. We used to ride bikes and do the stupid stuff 9 year-olds do. I remember the day I heard the news of his passing. I was stunned. Rest In Peace Alton. God Bless your family...

  • His sister Dale was my high school English teacher. She was awesome.

  • I hope I can get into the Naval Academy someday. What an honor it would be. Great video buddy. Rest in Peace Alton.

  • yeah coltstothesuperbowl

that good build character in youre son that were it starts

  • I watch this video with my 8 year old son about once a week. We live right around the corner from Green Run High School. Even though he knows only what he sees in this video about Alton he seems very impressed. In telling my son about the circumstances of Alton's death he wonders why somebody could do that to such a great person. It truly touches me every time we watch this video. Recently, I believe Green Run High School's Booster Club started an Alton Grizzard scholarship!

It's ashamed how he died and how the community took it. He was one the the earliest greatest athletes to come out of Green Run H.S.. God bless him.

  • Nice video. Your text describing the video is great - sounds like his story would make a good movie.

  • Thanks so much for these awesome memories of Alton!I consider myself so lucky to have seen this incredible guy play his heart out all four years at Navy..Besides being an amazing quarterback he was a true gentleman and friend..I miss him, even after all of these years..

  • I was a sports writer at The Virginian-Pilot years ago who had the pleasure to cover Alton when he was at Green Run and Navy. What a class act. Thanks for the video. It brought back great memories.

  • great vid. he was great and it was amazing how he died.

  • So much talent has came from Green Run and the other hampton roads schools, it's a shame he died. Thanks for the vid.
